Re:I tried to move my notes out of Emacs. I failed. Again on Saturday October 10, 2026 @04:52AM (#50030982)
I have a pending task to tryout the COG [1]. The description makes it one of the best thought-through processes for me to write things down while not being a major time consuming event. Whenever I've tried in the past to take more notes, I'd had to plan a time to do it and it was very difficult to find time. Another problem I occasionally have is that if I write something down, my brain kind of let go of the most of the memory of it, so the more I write and organize, I feel more stupid.

You're right, I've missed it. Cannot delete this post anymore, though.

Tell HN: OpenAI's New Pro 500 subscription, reduced Pro 200 usage

As a Pro subscriber, I've just received the following email from OpenAI:Hi [FirstName],We’re introducing dots for all Pro customers, a new Pro 500 tier that includes our highest usage limits and Ultrafast, and adjusting the usage allowance included in Pro 200 after October 29th.With models like GPT-6.1 Sol, you can still get more work done with Pro than you could before. Re:Never Launch Alone on Thursday August 27, 2026 @09:59AM (#49465025)
"Never Launch Alone" implies if you don't have a network already to help you promote - you'd get it there. It seems you don't.

Not sure who's doing multiple launches at the same time and a group of 25 connections I wouldn't consider a "network" requiring a special platform for coordination. That's a group of people I'd consider a closer circle and I'd coordinate through a WA group.

If I'm launching something, I'd appreciate help with different launching platforms coordination, maybe crowd gathering, etc.

The parent link does not work... is the repo private?
Re:PostgreSQL IDE in VS Code on Friday May 23, 2025 @03:30PM (#44075828)
I wonder how this compares to pgModeler (https://pgmodeler.io/) which I've been using the most in the recent years, would love is someone who had tried both could share some observations.
Thank you!

Ask HN: Any book recommendations for higher management positions?

A friend of mine is about to be promoted to a very senior management position, with multiple layers of management between her and engineers. She's asked for some reading recommendation on managing managers in a technology company (communication, setting goals/KPIs, meaningful feedback, coaching/mentorship, etc.)."The Manager's Path" although being one of the best books I've read, is mostly...

Re:Alternatives to Adobe on Tuesday October 17, 2023 @05:08PM (#37921588)
It's sad that most of the mentioned stand-alone (desktop) alternatives do not have a Linux option.
Well, I'd love to see a change there as well, then: if I'd want to share the interface with my family I wouldn't want to reenter everything everywhere they might be accessing the page from.
The only thing I'd suggest to consider to add is some sort of authentication. If I deploy this on a server so I could reach it with my mobile, on the go, and it has my API credentials, I wouldn't want anyone who stumbles upon the page to be able to interface ChatGPT on my expense.

Otherwise, it really looks good.

Never heard of them, thanks

Ask HN: Any first-hand experience with micro-funding side projects?

So, does anyone have first-hand experience in receiving small/micro-funding for side projects, but outside of US?I've found several organizations that provide this kind of funding [0], but most of them are in US. These organizations are covering either projects by people in US or, if the execution is outside the US, the funded projects are mostly community based initiatives. So, is there such an...

From the pricing page [0]:

Is there a free trial?

Unfortunately, because of the logistics of how this works, there is no free trial period. We do our best to give you an idea of what you're buying via public documentation, videos, and an overview of the repo. If you buy it and truly decide you aren't going to use it, contact us about a refund.

Re:Tell HN: 1Password shares passwords you don't want shared on Thursday February 17, 2022 @10:00AM (#30373748)
I'm in no way affiliated with them, but as a very happy user I can recommend you to try BitWarden [0] instead of 1Password. It doesn't have the bug you have described, nor it shows passwords in plain text by default (you can also copy a hidden password to clipboard - useful when you share a screen with someone).

Re:Deploy a Gmail-like email server in 30 (ish) minutes on Sunday December 26, 2021 @05:30PM (#29696984)
I'm using mailcow for year and a half now, moved to it from Kolab. It's really great and painless to manage it. The only thing missing for me is the LDAP auth, something I got used to over the years with Kolab. The OP's solutions has built-in LDAP auth, so I'll give it a try.
