yet to see any evidence of anything else going down
2019 was an American right wing/Facebook/Twitter job to downplay climate change and instead push the narrative that it was all done by arsonists
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-01-08/fires-misinformation-...
He said the topic appeared to be attracting a "suspiciously high number of bot-like and troll-like accounts".

Sad to see that American narrative about Australia still being spread
I actually rep namecheap more now
afaik Ecosia is a blend of Google and Bing now while they work on their own engine
How does this compare?
Looks like other people still trying to solve as well:
> Earlier this year, Coinbase changed online payments forever with a new protocol called x402. But could this technology really usher in a new age of 'machine to machine' payments? Let's run it...
instant, fee's a fraction of a cent, I thought this was it, international payments that don't rely on visa/mastercard!
and then it just went no where :\
maybe 128gb of vram becomes the new mid tier model and most llms can fit into this nicely and do everything one wants in an llm
given how fast llms are progressing it wouldn’t surprise me if we reach this point by 2030
i can understand maybe if you’re spending hours setting it up but to me these are download and go

I was legit taken back for a second wondering what I just clicked on
But cheers, I just realised how far we've come if yours was the first site in years? that I've seen this on
I cannot believe the old Apple naming scheme is still hanging around, I get that I'm irrationally hating this style of name but I just don't understand, why do I see it as peak lack of creativity?
It's like whenever you can't think of a name for something just go with e-thing or i-thing
This is so true, I've had to put a timer on how much I can use it as I'm addicted like the old school reddit days
I think all it'll take is reddit messing up and lemmy.world might be the new front page of the internet
but for some reason a whole heap of people decided to stay home this time and this is the result, hope they still feel happy with their decision
60 Hours a week is the sweet spot of productivity?
On Wednesday, Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, said the company could lead the industry in artificial general intelligence — when machines match or become smarter than humans — if employees worked harder.“I recommend being in the office at least every weekday,” he wrote in a memo posted internally on Wednesday evening that was viewed by The New York Times. He added that “60 hours a week is...
It is incredibly addictive inducing drug like state:
> You’ll just be in this pleasurable dopamine state, carried away. It’s almost hypnotic, you’ll keep watching and watching. - Dr. Julie Albright
> You keep scrolling, she says, because sometimes you see something you like, and sometimes you don’t. And that differentiation — very similar to a slot machine in Vegas — is key.
I detest slot machines, so many lives wasted away, and I feel like we already spend too much time on computers to the detriment of both ourselves and society, let alone giving the CCP a hand to manipulate people on top of everything else
The big reason I think it changed is that the internet went from being a place for nerds and geeks, when there was a technical barrier to getting online, to a place where there is essentially no barrier. As a result the web now reflects the innocence, openness, and intellectual curiosity of the average person, since the internet has become a daily part of everyone's life not just a subsection of the world that appeals to us.
- You don't have to setup an account
- You don't have to get the card authorised (I don't know what this means)
- Adding your card numbers in takes me 10 seconds, in the case of Paypal, it's already there so no time
- Fee's are minimal, not even worth wondering about
In terms of donation, entering in the amount to donate and clicking submit is yes, easier than going into my bank's website, bringing up the international transfer, and it's asking me for SMS confirmation that I want to do this, and I can't be bothered going further.
edit: I think maybe we are fighting the wrong battle.
You think IBAN is super easy, and maybe in Europe it is.
I'm not in Europe though and neither is the other chap, so maybe the donations are very easy in Europe but not so much out of it.
I've never done an IBAN payment in my life but I've donated thousands and thousands of dollars to loads of places all over the world without issue for years including Ukraine, this is the first time I've seen a place only accepting an IBAN donation, which feels like a friction that is not there for other places.
It should be as easy as possible to donate, imo it would be better even setting up a basic kofi or buy me a coffee account, or I see the Ukrainians using paypal all the time.
It should be a 3 click payment not a bank transfer requiring copying and pasting IBAN numbers and bank account numbers etc
To poke fun at the Germans at least they are not requesting we fax a copy of the money in :P
> Some Cricket graphs of our #Netflix cache for the #PaulVsTyson fight. It has a 40 Gbps connection and it held steady almost 100% saturated the entire time.
Titanic (1997) - Iceberg,Right ahead https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYOn3-PhA9c
It's all so incredibly manual, from the guys who literally stand at the front of the ship just looking out for icebergs, to the man running and pulling on a giant ringing lever of some kind to tell the engine room what to do, the guys in the engine room running around in a panic, yelling orders across the room, turning giant wheels, the levers being pulled to shut the engine down, the guys manually shovelling coal stopping and shutting the boilers... it's all so manual
Meanwhile today a majority of that is fully automated and/or a few clicks of a button
The movie would be a hell of a lot more boring today!
Titanic 2024 edition:
Some random person most likely: Iceberg right ahead!
Random staff member: We know... we're going around it
But your comment reminds of this:
What will AI Programming look like in 5 Years? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaedq1Jl2fc
It's the same I see with ICE engines vs EV's, and smart phones and laptops compared to desktops
All the manual work in the world is going away... but I guess if you're really itching for manual work farming and the trades don't seem to be going anywhere... yet
As to AI, I quite like it, I use:
Which runs LLM's on my local PC which is running on my solar and solar battery, so no co2 emissions ^^
and as I have trouble learning, sometimes I have to search for 5 to 10 websites explaining something before I 'get it', with AI it helps for me to poke it and go, explain this, almost like a second person is there just to try and help, sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't.
Same with coding, sometimes it might just give me an idea or a thought that I wouldn't of had without it that gets me closer to where I want go.
I'm interested !
