I noticed the same effect in a self made acoustic rainsensor that effectively was a jar with an iron metal lid that had a piezo element stuck to it on the underside (and an esp8266). Every time the temperature dropped fast the lid would produce this clicking sound, unfortunately generating rain in my graphs. Nowadays I use a plastic lid :)
Impressive movie, well fitting music (not from 1929). Looks a lot like Koyaanisqatsi but more than 50 years earlier.
It only helps when the parents dump social media too. The young kids need good social interaction with their parent when growing up. Having a mom and dad staring at their phones is not a good situation.
25 years ago I worked in a troubleshoot team for some time. The team members all had read authorization for all production files and databases. We did a first analysis of the problem and then send it on to the responsible maintainer without the production data. I had to sign a special NDA to be a member of that team.
And what will the the EU do when China raises chip prices for Europe by 40% as retaliation?

AI slop. They did't even check whether everything was pronounced correctly before publishing.

Good they get terminated. But offtopic, man, you've got a huge microphone, there is no need to shout
Re:Improving mouse traps with Home Assistant on Friday August 07, 2026 @12:46PM (#49213133)
I use a bird feeder with peanut butter for birds. Nothing falls to the ground below and it is relatively mouse safe if you hang it from a string. And the birds love it.
Not more than 2 seconds he did. The other guy (in somewhat better physical shape) made a good stretch though :)
Re:Farmers spreading crushed glass on their crops on Friday July 31, 2026 @08:19AM (#49122182)
I find it a bit strange that they regard glass as a waste product which it is not. Furthermore, if the working component is silicon then you can just as well use sand instead of glass.
Fish eggs often travel long distances by sticking to the feathers or legs of waterfowl I have been told at school long ago.

Re:Stolen Buttons on Saturday July 25, 2026 @12:40PM (#49049071)
It reminds me a bit of the toolbar mania in the nineties :)
It is still on air, playing a message that they stopped broadcasting on that freq. (at least 30 minutes ago)
Re:The Commodore flip phone is how much? on Wednesday June 17, 2026 @04:54PM (#48576760)
Looks very much like the Samsung I still have. The best mobile phone I ever had.
Re:Ask HN: How do you find deep technical content? on Thursday June 04, 2026 @08:53AM (#48397971)
There is probably still a lot out there but with the current state of the ('free') search engines you won't find much. I am painfully reminded of that every time I have to look for a datasheet that is not in my own archive yet.
Stopped watching within 10 seconds thanks to the flickering screen border.

The title immediately made me think of the September Song.

FWIW, when I used windows (up to 7), I always used Notetab.
Re:Why I'll Never Drive a Modern Car Again [video] on Sunday February 01, 2026 @01:53PM (#46848360)
I wish it was only cars, but unfortunately this decay in-the-name-of-progress is in everything nowadays.
Very good documentary about Donald Bickler made by his son.

In the demo there is a cut in the video where the needle abrubtly stops. The cut is visible because the lighting is slightly different.
Re:Could an electric blanket save you £4k this winter? on Tuesday December 23, 2025 @05:26AM (#46364118)
The damage from a frozen water line in your house can be a lot more than $4000.

We had them when I was still a kid in the sixties and I did not like it at all. Jumping in a warm bed is nice but leaving it on during the night makes you wake up all sweaty in the middle of the night. Even on the lowest setting.
