Re:We're experimenting with advertising on Thursday November 14, 2024 @12:59PM (#42139046)
I'm highly skeptical they'll step away from this approach once it becomes a core part of their business metrics. With VCs pushing for higher growth, resources and new outside hires will inevitably be directed to fuel it. Eventually, growth through ads will become embedded in their culture.

Good. It's the most logical choice to complement other green initiatives.
I'm also curious how Marevick survived the destruction of Darkstar going Mach 10.
100%... I lived and worked in many countries around the world and the amount of free speech we enjoy here is not common. This is why people like my parents escaped their motherland. It's surreal to me, as an immigrant, that we are trying self-limit free speech here. If you don't like what others say, then tune out, you have no right to silence other even if you abhor their ideas.
Thanks for sharing. Cautiously optimistic about Omicron
You'll have a Metaverse company controlling what you experience based on your social network and all your preferences.
Not only conversatives. Liberals are also upset about vaccines misinformation, election fraud, etc. My point is that you have to 'train' the AI models somehow. FB introduces its own 'biases' on those models. They admitted this 'mistake' only because it affected a Canadian MP, otherwise I don't think they would have this for you or I. Their 'discrimation' policies are too broad for an automated system. FB exhorts too much power over information.
All AI algorightms are "biased" by definition but FB biases are too extreme. The best thing for FB is to be broken up.
'until further notice'. What a joke. Please treat your employees with respect and dignitiy first. Then perhaps the industry will do the same to you.
"Richard Kucera, a former GE Aviation engineer, recounted "being placed in an untenable position where he was responsible for conducting engine conformity tests on behalf of [the] FAA, while also being charged with preparing GE engines to pass these same tests." --> This is crazy and scary..... Boeing culture changed so much after it 'acquired’ McDonnell Douglass

Working remotely WITH MANAGER approval. This is something that was already in place but the new policy open it up so this is more commonly accepted.
spot on. Data lake approach is a lazy approach. Throw a pile of garbage to the storage layer and figure out how to use it later. People just kicking the can.
I don't think Snowden cares.
Re:Cloudflare Web Analytics on Tuesday September 29, 2020 @01:01PM (#24630231)
Super cool. We've 'upgraded' from GA to GA360 because we wanted to get additional features. I wonder SaaS products you'd recommend on top (campaign management, customer lifecycle analytics, etc) on top GWA. Any suggestions?

I wonder if these can be released into the oceans without side effects
London is the one city I don't miss having Uber. With so much traffic jam, the Tube is the best choice. Also, the London taxis as so efficient.

UX looks more complicated than before.
They're acting like teenagers with a Robinhood account. I get they lost a lot of money but this looks like a hail mary attempt to recover from their bad investments.
Re:TikTok ads are rife with scams on Thursday September 03, 2020 @07:11PM (#24369883)
Isn't this true for FB, Twitter, Reddit, etc?
Re:Ask HN: Struggling at Google. What can I do? on Thursday September 03, 2020 @05:40PM (#24369185)
this happens at every large tech company. Google is not exception. The $$ from L6/L7 are very lucrative so not surprised that you're seeing the rat race play out. Hard to avoid this so either know how to play the game or join smaller startup.

Demented
I don't buy it. If we ever go back to normal (eg COVID19 weakens and disappears or vaccines actually work), travel will continue to be driven by supply/demand.
No harm in taking these drugs even if you doubt the studies. The number of patients that have 'recovered' from COVID19 but are suffering long term debilitating effect is very scary. These drugs/minerals are been consumed by millions of people but little side effects before COVID. At best, it's somewhat effective; at worst, it's usefulness.
Same as drinking lots of water....:)
