This post really fails to go beyond basic headlines.

> Federal subsidies were eliminated. Funding for charging infrastructure and battery manufacturing was rolled back.

These are both signs of a maturing market. It's a good thing that DCFC operators like Ionna, Walmart, etc. are still charging ahead at a pretty rapid pace, even without federal funding. Ionna especially has been deploying at a crazy speed.

> Individual states were barred from enforcing their own standards.

Litigation on this is still playing out. If car manufacturers aren't planning for these to swing back into force with a change of government, they are fooling themselves.

> Most domestic manufacturers have given up on EVs entirely and written off their investments.

Again, not true. Some investments like battery manufacturing, sure, but that's not what they were ever good at. GM has a pretty robust line of EVs, and Ford has bet big on their new platform underpinning on their new 'affordable' truck.

> Tesla is the only one standing, and their US sales have also been falling for the last couple years.

2023 was a stand out year for them, but it's not like they are falling off a cliff. We should expect Tesla sales to fall as other competitors like Rivian, Hyundai/Kia and even Toyota/Subaru release updated offerings.

Re:Amazon introduces a redesigned Kindle family on Sunday October 04, 2026 @12:12AM (#49950568)
My wife, and nearly all of her friends have one. They setup the kindle with a mount and lay back on the bed or couch.
How does this releate (or not) to Okta/Auth0's XAA, Identity Assertion JWT Authorization Grant? I'm struggling to follow.

Re:SAML: A Fractal of Bad Design on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @04:10PM (#49807395)
Realistically, what modern IdP supports SAML but not OIDC though? To me, it seems like more of a case of 'I know and am comfortable with SAML, why learn something new?'.

I think I agree if you don't have someone dedicated to running and maintaining Jenkins. If you have someone at your org that knows what they are doing though, I'd still take Jenkins over GHA any day.
At least they clearly label them and make them easy to avoid!
Same here. I would totally be fine if HW3 FSD was reduced to $50 a month, but charging the same $100 as HW4 is insulting at this point.
I hear this a lot, and I'm genuinely curious why you think it might take more energy to be on alert for tricky situations. Wouldn't you already be doing that for your own manual driving?

Do you have a high efficiency heat pump, or how are you heating?
Re:Oracle slashes 30k jobs with a cold 6 a.m. email on Tuesday March 31, 2026 @12:17PM (#47589671)
Yes, it's the standard in every legal doc I've ever seen too, but most companies have typically done some accelerated vesting as part of severance. Of course they don't have to, but it's a generally lower cost way of showing some good will.

Interesting, the _majority_ of developers I know write in JVM languages - mostly Kotlin for new stuff at this point.

Typically I see folks using the Amazon Corretto java distribution.

Re:Amazone One palm authentication discontinued on Wednesday January 28, 2026 @12:26PM (#46798537)
If you trust Amazon, they were never storing images of your actual palm but instead creating and storing unique hashes from that data. Again, if you trust them, they did it in just about the most privacy protecting way possible.
Re:Amazone One palm authentication discontinued on Wednesday January 28, 2026 @12:23PM (#46798474)
It doesn't seem like a big deal, but this is just so much more annoying than using my palm that not only links my payment method but also prime membership.

Now I need to tap through a stupid app and scan a code.

We always stopped at whole foods on the way home from the gym, and I didn't always have my phone with me or readily accessible. This will definitely cause me to cut back on this quick stop in / impulse purchases.

If this were true, Tesla wouldn't have the only use able car infotainment system in the industry.

What is the sample rate on the barometer?

If it’s sensitive enough, a compelling skydiving altimeter app could be developed. Considering most purpose built altis used worse screens and cost 350+, could be a quite compelling use case.

As someone with thousands of jumps from this altitude, I disagree. The VAST majority of 'first timers' I've taken on tandems don't feel much, if any, difference either going up.
Countless times I've been at the Airport and overhear people complaining about not being able to use their Debit Card with a rental car, or that they don't have enough money in their account to cover would just be a pre-authorization on a credit card.
Yea I guess I'm just surprised OP hasn't seen any. The junction point explains the fast chargers, but the Level 2 would presumably be used primarily by locals.

I mean even middle of nowhere cities like Ellsworth are getting DCFC - granted at a dealership, but still it's happening!

https://www.plugshare.com/location/560842

Eau Claire, WI - a pretty small town has at least three DCFC - EA, Tesla & a local electric company plus tons of level 2 all over.

> I'm confused at why this was included in the regulation

The WI GOP. At least you can pay by the kWh in WI now instead of by the minute with this law.

Re:Coding in Vision Pro on Friday February 16, 2024 @06:42PM (#39404552)
I returned mine today after attempting to use it for work for a few hours at a time over the last week. I felt the same eye strain with my Mac as a mirrored display.

Zoom calls were cool, but nobody could take the Persona seriously.

After a few days the eye strain seemed to get worse and worse, until yesterday it give me such a bad headache I decided that was enough.

Yeah I think this holds true there as well. It's a small, niche market, but it's hard to argue what they are doing isn't leaps and bounds ahead of anything from Meta (Ignoring the price differences).
Not sure what you're getting at with this. Are you eluding that these clean vehicle rebates are directly contributing to food price inflation? Are you saying policy is focusing on the wrong things to subsidize or what?
Re:U.N. votes to end US embargo on Cuba; US and Israel oppose on Thursday November 02, 2023 @05:52PM (#38120761)
Yea, but this point is a bit disingenuous because ships that make port in Cuba can't then also then make port in the US.

https://ofac.treasury.gov/faqs/779

The US has a huge amount of influence on all global trade, regardless of it's with the US or not.

> I could imagine companies issuing iPhones with MDM and corporate credentials preconfigured

This is already happening with iPhones & iPads, the Dev tools just aren't anywhere close to being able to match macOS. I'm sort of surprised Apple hasn't at least ported Xcode to be able to run on iPadOS.

Re:GM to use Tesla charging network, joining Ford on Thursday June 08, 2023 @06:51PM (#36250357)
Did you read the article? They signed a deal directly with Tesla. They also never had to develop their own charging stations. Existing GM EVs can use any network that uses CCS already.
Re:No Man's Sky Now on Mac on Thursday June 01, 2023 @02:30PM (#36155306)
That might have been true at launch five years ago, but the amount of content is pretty insane after all of the updates they've done to the game. Haven't run into really any bugs in 40+ hours of playtime.
I pretty much only use it for games with friends. Some of the Mini Golf, Ping Pong and Chess games are pretty good.
Re:Nvidia is now a $1T company on Tuesday May 30, 2023 @12:01PM (#36126443)
Does your apparent Apple hate blind you to how many devices they are selling at higher margins than other similar companies? Not to mention their huge expansion into services.

Why does Apple have to be good at AI? Why do all of these big tech companies have to have a play for everything?
