And are you learning whatever you are learning for personal gratification or hoping to use that skill for survival? I am asking because the way I see it, just like the teachers, everyone is becoming useless.
Re:Fuck Android Developer Verification Program on Thursday October 01, 2026 @03:07AM (#49918645)
Yes, fuck Android though I have to use an Android phone(and I don't want fucking Apple either). I pulled my hobby game from play store because they won't just let it be. Some new regulation now and then and threats to disable the app.
Re:Degraded performance for multiple models on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @01:01PM (#49348740)
What's the incentive to keep on improving the model beyond a point? 10 devs on a team will be cut to 2 devs, so that's 8 licenses lost. They have to increase the price many fold.
Re:AI is removing the middle class of software engineering on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @10:53AM (#49273363)
So, blame the engineers now? Most likely they were forced by a manager to push more PRs faster else piped.

Re:The Dark Night of Mathematics on Saturday July 25, 2026 @05:06PM (#49051577)
I don't understand. Can't you just ask LLMs to do the same and collaborate with other LLMs?

Ask HN: What other professions are software programmers considering?

I've been a software developer for decades and have been searching for a new role for months. After a thousand applications, I'm starting to think seriously about alternative careers rather than assuming another software job is around the corner. One thing I've always enjoyed about software, besides the compensation, is the daily problem solving. That's what I'd miss the most. But I guess...

In long term, it seems democracies transform to autocracies. Well, china is the future indeed.
> Knowing this, the model searched for and successfully found ways to gain access to secret information that it could use to cheat the evaluation

The way they describe makes it look like there was an intention to cheat painting it as human/AGI. If you leave a possible path open and it will always find it.

I think people who commit suicide really believe they actually help their families or the world is better off without them. So, no, they are far from cruel. They are considerate.

These guys have to produce a hit piece everyday...everyone by now knows that "we are doing this for humanity" is bullshit.
I immigrated wanting to become a millionaire. Never found time working my ass off. Now that I get pension and tokens from Musk and Zuck, I can finally try!

Were there any managers fired for incompetence?
Re:Local Qwen isn't a worse Opus, it's a different tool on Thursday June 18, 2026 @12:54AM (#48580974)

They really are fantastic for a lot of use cases and I think most people do not need SOTA. When I run that qwen model in my measly 4070 12 GB for my personal email agent that I build and experiment with, I need privacy more than anything else. It does a great job. Even for coding tasks, given you know how to use them instead of dumping a grand plan, it's great.

I wouldn't consider India. It's been plagued by protectionism and tariffs and won't achieve anything close to China any time soon. The only industry of value for its people which is software services is now crumbling with AI created in US and China. Edit: probably your point too and I misread
Re:Apple's weird anti-nausea dots cured my car sickness on Tuesday June 16, 2026 @02:53PM (#48560169)
I wonder if this might work for my sickness with 3D apps and games on desktop. Even watching Minecraft is nauseating
It has always been pretty clear to me. Same medical equipment, infrastructure, education elsewhere in the world is often 30-50 times cheaper. The providers just charge as they want because people will pay their fortune to live, just like lawyers.
Re:India's surprise baby bust is a warning to the world on Friday June 05, 2026 @02:42PM (#48416529)
Well, isn't it already difficult for the not-rich to add to families? Add to that the uncertainty with income and future. Unless socialism is widely adopted, I am not sure humans can enjoy better lives especially with additional burden of kids. Hell, people can't afford homes now. I don't see a widely agreed upon or convincing positive ending. I already see (read about to be accurate) effects of AI on young graduates. I'd assume people hope for better ending, but would prepare for the worst.

What's the strong case against population dwindling other than supporting aging population? Given the AI armageddon, it just makes sense to reduce the population. If there's less population, we need less production and less workers. Of course, countries have to deal with oldest population for a brief period of time.
Ever thought why? For you they are terrorists, and for them they are resistance groups to prevent what Israel did in the last 2 years..occupy their lands an murder their people.
