I work in german FinTech too and am very familiar with this game. Forcing developers to do 2FA for "every keystroke" while running ancient software on historic OS doesn't make much sense to me.
Re:Old.reddit.com Gone on Friday October 30, 2026 @09:53AM (#50303916)
Thx a lot! I've setup a Violentmonkey script to automatically redirect me to r.naa.gg:

    // @match       *://www.reddit.com/*

    window.location.host='r.naa.gg';
Re:Linux 7.3 Released on Friday October 23, 2026 @12:32PM (#50211623)
Same here. I setup a few Macs for my family to use LDAP and NFS. Gave up after some time due to Apple changing things at will.

Whould you recommend using a Pixel 6a in 2026 even though it has no hardware memory tagging (MTE)?

Re:Writing by hand is good for your brain on Friday July 24, 2026 @02:14AM (#49031783)
This reminds me of Donald Knuth writing drafts by hand.
The "ML" here seems to stand for "Machine Learning" (not "Meta Language" as in SML or OCaml).
Re:CoMaps – FOSS Offline Maps on Wednesday July 08, 2026 @04:48AM (#48829339)
Is there a .dmg for macOS outside of the App Store? (I'm trying to avoid the App Store as much as I can).

I guess the aerodynamic design makes the Wifi faster... ;-)

This even has a name: German Angst.
Re:Nano Banana 2: Google's latest AI image generation model on Friday February 27, 2026 @03:21AM (#47178004)
Is it possible to run this locally on Apple aarch64?

(Sorry, I'm probably one of the few HN users left that don't have much experience with AI).

Website seems to require JS to display anything at all.
Re:Deutsche Telekom is violating Net Neutrality on Wednesday January 28, 2026 @05:29AM (#46793523)
I can tell you that Deutsche Telekom has much much more aggressive sales reps than 1&1. (I've been with GMX/1&1 for ~15 years and with DT for ~2 years).

DT called me on phone over and over again, so much that I had to block them on my FritzBox. Several times they even knocked at my door.

Thx a lot. Really appreciate you taking the time for such a thorough answer.

Another Althttpd user here. Being able to write a "microservice" just by making a file executable is awesome.

That's a little bit to much for my trusty notebook...

Thx. Am I taxable in my country of residence even when the money is kept on the LLC's bank account in the US?

Let's say a small side hustle earns me $200/month. The money is kept on the LLC's bank account. Later on, when I visit the US, the LLC is paying for traveling and hotel. Would I still need to pay taxes in my country of residence?

(Even though you probably aren't a lawyer, I'd still appreciate your thoughts on this).

Do you have any in-depth resources on how to start and operate a US LLC as a foreigner?
This is exactly the reason why I went with the 3rd edition.
Re:Kidnapped by Deutsche Bahn on Tuesday December 30, 2025 @08:19AM (#46433061)
I appreciate you sharing the positive experience as a neighbor, but unfortunately, the Deutsche Bahn is as bad as presented here. (I spend several years commuting to college via DB). Once my train stopped in a small village with the announcement "the train ends here". Thankfully, kind people picked me up.

The README doesn't mention this, but on macOS it's also available via brew:

`brew install snitch`

Re:Snitch – a friendly netstat alternative for humans on Tuesday December 23, 2025 @09:29AM (#46365564)
It's a mix of everything (in no particular order):

- the author of LuLu is a security researcher; he also wrote "The Art of Mac Malware"

- I already bought two versions of Little Snitch and wasn't willing to pay for the third one

- contacting their support left a bitter aftertaste

Re:Snitch – a friendly netstat alternative for humans on Tuesday December 23, 2025 @04:50AM (#46363925)
I've been a long time Litte Snitch user. However, these days I'm just using LuLu: https://objective-see.org/products/lulu.html
Thx. Appreciate your feedback.
Can you please elaborate a little bit more on this? I'm thinking about buying an ereader but haven't decided yet which is the one...
Re:Last Week on My Mac: Losing confidence on Wednesday December 03, 2025 @04:52AM (#46132517)
I enabled the tap (System Settings) so I can "click" everywhere.
Reading the title, I expected this to be the successor of Electron.

Or at least a positive version of it...

This.

Searching the internet on a phone feels like exploring the world through the eye of a needle.

After feeling nostalgic about 88x31 GIFs I made a website where people can submit their own. Like HN, every submission requires a URL. Unlike HN, every submission costs $1 worth of Lightning Bitcoins (for keeing my motivation up ;-)Technical details:* Webserver: Althttpd (from the SQLite crew: https://sqlite.org/althttpd/doc/trunk/althttpd.md)* CGI: Perl* DB: SQLite using sensible defaults:...
