If that happens, raise it his boss. If that doesn't work and you feel like vomiting on your mgr's face, do it. Don't hold back.
Re:Ask HN: Which proxy software folks use? on Thursday November 03, 2022 @01:32AM (#33447389)
Ended up using NordVPN. @Proton: Providing a free version that doesn't work is a good strategy of loosing potential customers.

Ask HN: Which proxy software folks use?

Looking for a good proxy software to be able to browse without being geo-tagged by sites, especially when you are traveling places and working remotely. Curious what are other folks using and how do they like it.

Re:Ask HN: How to move away from Google on Wednesday March 30, 2022 @05:37PM (#30861100)
I have been off google (mostly) by: 1. Email: Zohomail 2. maps: apple maps (sometimes vet it with google maps to verify shortest path, etc) 3. drive: iCloud

Has been working fine so far.

I grew up watching him and was my role model in cricket. I'd imitate his bowling action and would bowl for hours during practice.

100% agree. The fact he still exists is surprising. I have never came across a single article from this guy which is useful... even so, when he belabors on an existing tech, I have always found articles from other bloggers which are way more precise and to-the-point. He is just a salesman under a tech garb.
Nothing!

Not to downplay this (infact I am a signal user), but What if fb buys Signal, as it did with WhatsApp?

wdyt about the frequency of security patches vs you getting tracked on all sites you visit? Not to say Apple doesn't care about security.
I just realized that it is a 7 years old article!
Thanks for the info, will explore them!
Thanks!

Ask HN: Email client alternatives for Gmail/YMail/etc ad-based clients

Hey folks,I am sick with all these data gathering stuff and have been working on reducing my Google/Yahoo usage.I rarely use FB, and use DDG for search.Google does have some products which are unbeatable as of now -- maps. I acknowledge it requires huge investment, etc to get all pieces together to make map usable. But, email? Aren't there any better email clients (paid/unpaid) out there that...

Yeah, i'd not be surprised if he holds TWTR stocks :)
Re:DuckDuckGo vs Google on Wednesday September 20, 2017 @12:18PM (#15295460)
Interestingly, contrary to most comments, i recently had to switch to Google after using DDG for about two years. It was just getting slower and slower - across all devices. Yes, programming and technical questions are answered better than Google, but rest of the queries were returning lesser optimal results - most likely it has to do with privacy and data collection.
Re:Confession of a so-called AI expert on Friday August 11, 2017 @02:20PM (#14992738)
We have seen many a bubbles in the past. The AI bubble will also burst eventually. I have a first hand experience of it in the ML/NLP world, and I can safely say it is about 30% works plus 70% hype.

Large amount of data has helped, so AI systems are better than before (with lots of training data), but that's pretty much it. It is not going to replace programming jobs, leave aside solving world problems.

Thanks Peter!
Thanks for the AMA Peter. My question is about premium processing of H1 visa. With premium processing halted, change of employer would have to go to regular H1 processing - which is a matter of months. What is your advise on employment transfer - one should wait till premium processing is resumed, or start working as soon as transfer receipt is obtained, or any other option/advice?

bq. HR is not to be trusted. Get everything they say in writing. Don't tell them anything you aren't comfortable sending out in an all-hands email.

Re:Soylent Closes $50M Series B Round Led by GV on Thursday May 04, 2017 @12:29PM (#14266197)
Is there any long term effect medical study about this product?

I think our body has organs which releases various gastric juices to digest the food we eat. It is not only about how much calorie/protein one is consuming, there are also some useful by-products which helps in overall functioning of the body as well. A very simple analogy is only drinking fruit juice instead of eating them raw. We are not taking in fibers which helps in digestion, slow decomposition and good bowl movement.

I am very skeptical about approaches like this where we measure our food just in terms of calories, vitamins, protiens and then consume them directly in that format.

Who exactly is not an immigrant in the states? If one traverse lineage of any of these so called "non-immigrants", within 3-4 generations one will see they were an immigrant too.
