You sell BTC to USDT if you are not looking to cash out of BTC. Instead, if you think that BTC is at a peak in the short term and you simply want to sell at the peak and get back in once it drops, selling to USDT is just fine. That way you can buy back BTC once price drops.

When you do want to cash out to real fiat, you have to sell to USD.

USDT allows a large number of exchanges to allow you to sell BTC and hold in something that looks like USD. Without USDT a number of exchanges won't see anywhere near the volume they get. By enabling a larger volume, USDT is indirectly helping inflate BTC (and other currencies) price.

What is the recommended way to generate a long unique cryptographic hash

I want to serve images that belong to users. For various reasons I want to serve the images unauthenticated. Even though the images would be served unauthenticated I don't want a rogue user to be able to guess the final URL for the images easily. So I want to use something like what Google Docs does for images embedded in Google Docs. The images are available publicly, however, the url is hard...

Re:How to See a Supernova This Weekend From Your Backyard on Saturday September 03, 2011 @04:58PM (#2958098)
At the moment, not really. In several hundred years it might become a nebula when it will look very different with a telescope. For example look up crab nebula.

True, but thats because for a startup other benefits of being in CA far outweigh the disadvantages.

I don't think it is limited to companies. Didn't Arrington move to WA just a month or two before Techcrunch was sold to AOL. Coincidence? I think not.
That would work as well. I didn't realize there was an open source license which lets me do that.
Yup reselling the software without any significant changes is the main thing I want to avoid.

Ask HN: Is there an open source license which prevents commercial use?

I am planning on open sourcing a project I worked on. I am trying to find a license which gives others the freedom to use the code in whatever way they want to, with the caveat that they can't make money off it. I don't think anyone will try but still I just don't want others to be able to make money off my work. So do you know of a license which does what I am looking for?

I am working on some personal projects and want to start using a bug tracking software for them. I am looking for recommendations for a bug tracking system which is- Free/Freemium- Web based so that I don't have to worry about installing/maintaining it.- Simple to use

Ask HN: source control for windows?

Any recommendations on source control system for an all windows environment? I looked at git for windows but it sounds like it is not as well supported due to lack of resources and I would really prefer to get a system I can trust and not have to worry about.[Edit] I am looking primarily for personal work.

Re:Jurors more likely to convict unattractive people on Friday April 30, 2010 @04:58PM (#1309391)
I am curious why don't they keep the defendants and jury in a seperate room. They can let the jury hear all the arguments etc. I suppose the voice would still be a concern, but it should take care of the unattractive problem for the most part.

Re:Why programmers are not paid in proportion to their productivity on Wednesday December 23, 2009 @03:29PM (#1012773)
While I agree with fast + time wasted = normal speed, in reality it is not the wasted time that plays the role. In most companies developers don't have a fixed 8 hour job and most of them work more than 8 hours a day on a routine basis. I have seen managers who valued the total time spent working more than the actual work accomplished. So a developer who works about 8 hours a day was ranked below someone who spent 10-12 hours a day working even though it was the former who was accomplishing more tasks.
Re:Haagen-Dazs bans Indians from their new store in India. on Wednesday December 16, 2009 @04:11PM (#999728)
The policy has already been changed due to the local backlash.. I don't think this debacle is going to help the brand.. I for one won't ever buy it again
