I live in Dubai, and the rains this year appear to be more frequent than the last two years. Perhaps the new seeding material is showing results
Well I don't expect the US to abide by a law that says "we will never sell arms to any nation, or profit off war". Why should the Saudi expected to vote against their own cash cow.
> Waiting for amber takes 20 seconds. Also it’s not a timeout of some case from repeated use. Have to wait even if it wasn’t used for several minutes beforehand.
Wait, how does one send 5000 messages in one day? I thought Gmail had an upper limit of 500/day?
This looks like an article based entirely off a strawman argument. Head over to r/oldschoolcool and you will see a lot of youngish looking people in their 30s and 40s as well.
HN is for everything fascinating. I'm sure a temple with hidden treasures is fascinating stuff in a lot of ways.
But without monetization, YouTube would have also long ceased to exist.
My Twitter verse is filled with people making websites with thousands of pageviews from ai generated content. Google obviously is turning a blind eye to this possibly because they are planning on something a lot bigger than chatgpt with ai. And when it happens the internet will be littered with ai generated content that it is impossible for anyone to accuse them and them alone for stealing content.
Yeah, but if I were a competitor, I could have taken those visitors to my website and he would have lost all of that traffic.

Del.icio.us used to be really good. It's a shame they got acquired and shut down. I don't think there is anything that does a good job with bookmarking today.

I stopped donating to Wikipedia after I learned that they were the organization behind the "Chimp selfie" lawsuit. I understood that my money was not going towards keeping the servers on, but instead in defending frivolous lawsuits like these.
In all frankness, I have no interest in letting Wikipedia die either. I just feel there are enough people who donate today that makes it easy for the foundation to do stuff beyond just keeping a Wikipedia on. Will probably donate again if their contributor pool ever shrinks.

You should know that Google street view picked up traction around the same time the Mumbai attacks happened.
And that attack was largely coordinated thanks to extensive recce of the city by David headley.
Security concerns were valid because the government had the infrastructure to check the legitimacy of every foreigner entering the country. But a Headley-like recce could be possibly done by anyone from anywhere without the government knowing it.
Yes, there are workarounds, but The government was not wrong in taking it's time in giving clearance to something like this
Wish we scrutinized our living leaders as much as we scrutinize those long dead and gone
If you have always wanted to start up or build your own product, consider the layoffs a blessing in disguise. That is, of course, assuming that you have the means to weather the financial challenges of not having a job. Make arragements for either savings that will last a year, or move back with parents depending on where you are in life at present.
I was single and unmarried in 2008. Was working in a startup that made an innovative new kind of ads (SMS ads!!). Was laid off and spent the next year building the next TechCrunch. It flopped, of course, and I moved back to a day job later. But I would have never made that move had I not been fired.
My personal circumstances are different today and would not make such a move now. But if you are young and financially-covered, you should see that as an opportunity.
Wow, I have never realized this aspect about Hindi in all these years. Thank you
I think the need for AI/machine learning to predict what you want has kind of brought us here.
Imagine a Facebook or Instagram not mining your data to show you what they think you want - the results in your timeline will be a grand hash of all the think that's new and happening.
That would have been a vastly different experience.
Except for perhaps Reddit, every other big site today personalizes your content and this has made the internet boring for me.
The only place i discovew new content is Reddit, but again its front page is full of memes and American content.
Gau rakshaks don't give a hoot about poor farmers. In India, the butcher shop is mostly owned by Muslims, and this gives the perfect opportunity for these "protectors" to round up unsuspecting people and steal their money. The fact that they are muslims give them the legitimacy to do so because they have been dehumaned by the present government.
How is the deliverability on this? I've received a lot of spam over this and so i suspect poor deliverability

'Working remote' visa options all look great till I start researching on how the job market is, in general. Because my spouse is going to have to do something too.
Every company with even an ounce of asset has at least some part of it lying in real estate. Corporate real estate is going to be the biggest loser if WFH becomes the norm post-covid.
In other words, it's in almost every corporate's best interest to push people towards offices.
Add to this the fact that they get to lobby politicians many of whom invest heavily in real estate.
Do not be surprised if governments create tax hurdles for companies operating remotely.

Email providers in general, and GMail in particular, is not as sophisticated as we like to believe. There have been so many instances where people I have been talking to for several years get randomly thrown into the spam folder.
It goes without saying that some of my outreaches get thrown there too by default.
So, as the sender, I don't really know if you saw the message and didn't want it, or if you were too busy to reply, or that you did not receive my message in the first place.
There are, of course, many email tracking tools available. I do not use them though.
