Re:Adult ADHD Is the Wild West of Psychiatry on Sunday January 21, 2024 @05:41PM (#39083836)
My point is that the pills cause a ton of extra neurotransmitters - that's the same for everyone. In the adhd brain it has an extra effect of giving the natural neurotransmitters a chance to be absorbed and fullfil their duty. That means that during the effect of the meds the person with adhd also gets to have a functional brain for things unrelated to what the pill affects directly.

But for ADHD it doesn't just give concentration. It makes everything work properly. Emotions, Impulse control, Organization and so on. Everything that is controlled by neurotransmitters.

Those pills have different effects on people with adhd and people without it. A pretty bad explanation trying to keep it simple: The adhd brain basically destroys neurotransmitters in the brain before they can be absorbed by the body. The stimulant will cause a lot more neurotransmitters to be created so that more of them can be absorbed by the body (both the natural NTs and the ones caused by the stimulant). For someone without adhd there wasn't anything stopping the natural NTs before so all the stimulant will do is flood the body with one kind of stuff.
Re:Google OAuth is broken (sort of) on Thursday December 21, 2023 @02:39PM (#38725662)
I could swear I at least once received an email that was sent to [email protected] or something similar in my myname@mydomain email. It's been several years but I remember thinking that was fucked up and looking into the full email to see if there was any other explanation for me receiving it, which I did not find.
I once worked on a project that would not even compile if a function had a param without a comment explaining the purpose of that param written with a specific format. Every comment was validated on compile time, you couldn't even comment code just to test something. Life was hell.
Some apps actually do that. I know at least Rocket.Chat has an option to handle push that way. I'd like to believe other similar chat apps used by groups and communities have it too.

But as others have pointed out, just having the timestamp and target of the notifications already tells a lot.

Re:How to See Bright, Vivid Images in Your Mind’s Eye on Sunday October 01, 2023 @09:05AM (#37725562)
People without aphantasia can recall details about things that they didn't notice when they first looked at it, because they can "look at it again" in their mind.

I can't recall anything I didn't actively notice while looking. If you stop me when I'm leaving a grocery store and ask me questions about the cashier, I won't be able to tell you their hair color or what kind of clothes they were wearing. Sometimes I won't even be able to tell you if they were tall or fat or any other physical adjectives.

Re:How to See Bright, Vivid Images in Your Mind’s Eye on Sunday October 01, 2023 @08:38AM (#37725365)
That's a lot more than I can do. I can't see anything at all. No color, no shape. The most I can do is remember if something is taller or wider.
Js in bookmarks used to be somewhat common though.
"if you forget it you didn't need it" isn't true for people with ADHD.

I spent so long looking for a comfortable chair that I ended up getting used to working in my reclining chair with my notebook on my lap and a wireless mouse on the chair's arm. I don't really miss using a table anymore.

When it first launched, that's basically all we had to play.

Your account is tied to the hardware (1 3DS and 1 Wii U). You can move your account from one hardware to another if you have both on the same room, or with a phone call.

I'm not a fan of endless runners (or any smartphone game for that matter) but one of the few games I enjoyed on mobile was Rayman's endless runner games, so I may give this one a chance.

Except they consistently release high rated games year after year.

I remember thinking as a kid: "It's been a while since we last changed currencies". And also wondering how long the USA were using dollars and things like that. Took me some time to realize that changing currency is not something that countries do every other year.

1) There's no way to know the site's terms when you're coming to it for the first time from google. 2) He isn't complaining about retargeting, he's complaining that his email address was shared through it.
Re:Moving to GitLab: Yes, it's worth it on Friday August 05, 2016 @11:44AM (#12233175)
Yes, but they simplified it a lot. I just connected to github, chose the repository and clicked import. Maybe all of those services have it that way, but I'm just glad that GitLab had it.
Re:Moving to GitLab: Yes, it's worth it on Friday August 05, 2016 @11:41AM (#12233139)
Sure! The only reason I wasn't using GitLab before is that I had a writer working remotely on my game and I didn't know how to explain to her how to use it. So I had moved everything to GitHub and told her to use their desktop app, which makes the clone/commit/push/pull flow amazingly simple.
Re:Moving to GitLab: Yes, it's worth it on Friday August 05, 2016 @08:06AM (#12231597)
I recently moved my personal project from GitHub to GitLab and the whole process took me less than a minute, with a simple git remote set-url on the client side. The future is amazing.
The problem with skype was that it only worked if everybody involved used old versions of it. Dozens of people had the same issue on the client's office, so they switched to hangouts which worked now and then. There's a new version of skype for linux now that seems to be working fine though.
I use a local account and windows never bothered me about it.
A couple months ago I tried to ditch windows for linux at work and I failed, mostly because neither Skype nor Hangouts worked properly on it and the client was tired of switching tools, but other than that I think I didn't miss anything. At home linux is a complete no no, I run into windows only tools every week. But for a better experience on linux, I recommend changing libre office for wps office.

I've never had a good experience with sshfs on Windows. Different settings are either too slow or don't kill the cache when I change something. My current workflow is to clone the project both on my machine and my development server, then sync the changes with the SFTP plugin.

I worked with different versions of Delphi for 7 years. I miss it sometimes. The language was quite good, but people would always judge it because of the IDE that made it "too easy"
Re:We shut down our startup on Saturday June 18, 2016 @01:37AM (#11927251)
I worked in companies that would try to avoid paying for those and companies that would never pay for those no matter what.
I had to hide the whole notification system because I kept getting office ads as notifications. I have never had anything like that in a mobile OS.
I actually liked that I could use a messenger app without all the rest of the stuff that I never used. But I think they split it back then because they wanted to have something more similar to whatsapp (which wasn't theirs yet) - They apparently let you use a phone number to log to messenger too.
