Re:Show HN: Roffume – Add fragrance to your resume with roff on Sunday September 20, 2026 @04:57PM (#49780005)
I had an unreleased version of this project running `groff`-only for quite some time.

After using it for 25 or so applications, I got the feeling that having markdown as the "source of truth" was slightly easier for reading, editing, and diffing different versions. I’ve been using it with Markdown as a base and I’m happy with the results.

To me, Markdown wins on ergonomics: easier to visually scan, no escaping of typographical marks (the `\-` hyphen), and syntax highlighting in every editor for bold/italics/etc,

I do concede that raw `roff`'s tend to produce better "one-per-line" diffing on what would otherwise be inlined paragraphs. But that seems somewhat minor to me.

Also, I invite more advanced `roff` users to show me the error on my ways regarding my above reasoning.

I just mean that some providers do some telemetry to detect (sometimes incorrectly) bad use. I think there were recent cases where OpenClaw-related strings in the prompt produced token exhaustion on Claude Code users.

I'm just saying that standard usage would produce a somewhat repetitive spawning of subagents which get prompts with a consistent formatting, and it's not entirely impossible that that plus large volume of use might trigger some detection somewhere.

Show HN: Hacker Fables – A satirical cyberpunk novel you can read as a man page

https://sebastiancarlos.github.io/hacker-fables/

The project is entirely open source. It takes a single Pandoc Markdown source file and produces HTML, EPUB, PDF, man pages, GNU Info, an audiobook, an HTML-integrated audio player that highlights the content as it plays, and an MP4 output for the "video audiobook."It's generic enough to be reusable. I plan to use the pipeline for my tech blog later on.The novella contains a lot of programming...

Not particularly. Doing stuff with primes is just a common theme for sample functions.
I draw the line at around 300 lines.

Ask HN: Are we upon the convergence of Apache, Nginx and “other”?

Common wisdom suggests that there are two major web servers: Apache (losing popularity) and Nginx (gaining popularity). However, a look at the latest trends[1] suggests that we are upon the age of a "triple convergence" in popularity between Apache, Nginx, and the mysterious "other" category.Which leads to the logical questions: What is the "other" category? How did it become so big? And does it...

Re:Ask HN: How to trap SIGTSTP (ctrl-z) in a Bash script? on Thursday July 20, 2023 @11:01AM (#36801508)
Yes sorry, I just wanted to come to a place with some experts. I tried some other popular sites with little luck.

Anyway, that works, thanks!

So it seems that trapping SIGTSTP works, so long as the script is currently executing an asynchronous command that is followed by a "wait", at the time when the user presses Ctrl-z. Did I get it right? I need to read a bit on this topic.

Ask HN: How to trap SIGTSTP (ctrl-z) in a Bash script?

Time and time again I've heard things like "Linux is not hard, there's a full army of people online waiting to help you when you run into trouble."Well, here I am, deep in the Linux trenches, fighting something for which there's little documentation. You are my last hope:I have the following script:```bashsuspense_cleanup () { echo "Suspense clean up..." }int_cleanup () { echo "Int clean...
