Apolitical vibes is a luxury that's hard to keep up given the level of insanity all around us.
I look at it like this: LLMs can generate code for those who know nothing about software development and they can generate text for those who know nothing about writing. Asking them to write it themselves will not get us better writing, but rather the opposite. If they were willing to learn, they would be doing that right now instead of using a tool that absolves them from learning. So, as bad as LLM slop may be, it's quite possibly still better than the alternative.
> The virtue of formal texts is that their manipulations, in order to be legitimate, need to satisfy only a few simple rules; they are, when you come to think of it, an amazingly effective tool for ruling out all sorts of nonsense that, when we use our native tongues, are almost impossible to avoid.
Hence, when communication via formal text results in nonsense, it is very clear that the originator of that nonsense is you. With LLM-generated code the nonsense may be much less obvious and when it does surface, you can feel like it's not your fault at all. You are a genius and the LLM fucked it up. No wonder all kinds of "developers" want their code generated by LLMs and don't even look at it anymore. It's the ultimate responsibility laundering.
Psy ops. Grabbing users for their IPOs. Once they have you the prices will go up again.
I envy you. If I only had the money for that sweet hardware. And the electricity bill.
IBM fucks sam and dario. Priceless.
This almost makes me want to have Minecraft, but apparently you need an effing Microsoft account for it. No way in hell.
You can still be a programmer. Ignoring all the stupid "why don't you use AI" questions makes you even more of a bad-ass.
I feel like I should be able to crash the Windows behind this page by triggering some bug in the app.
> our fingers will turn into undulating prompt tentacles.
Doubtful. Because in the brave new AI future the ability to prompt will be a hotly contested privilege. Obviously you can't let any random meat sack have the honor to directly interface with the Machine God.
> the Age of AI – Actual Idiocy, Actual Super Idiocy, Recursive Snowballing-Idiocy – is upon us.
At the risk of sounding derivative: She's absolutely right.
After being drowned ad nauseam in a deluge of refuse and bullshit day after day for years now, it is so good to read the writing of a true master once in a while. Not to mention: The truth. For a change.
That's only a bit less than half an eternity. Programming languages may have been supplanted by vibe slop by then.
Did you see those windowlings hovering over the background and casting a shadow? Later user interfaces may have had more pixels, but they never had that coolness.
Of course this is only one Jev. Other Jevs might behave differently.
That control panel looks fantastic! Too bad I don't wayland. Last I checked, Mathematica doesn't like it.
Someone who knows how to do it should make a better Siri and then fuck Apple by selling it to them. For a really expensive price.
Apple would never ever acknowledge that anything of theirs is less than ecstatically fantastic.
Happy birthday! I think this has to be the oldest programming language still in use. 70 years is quite an eternity in the sphere of computing. Before Fortran, there was (almost?) nothing but assembler and plug board connectors.
I wonder how much work it is to keep the outside that clean in the middle of a forest. But the color is great and it does look romantic. Extra UFO points if it can take off and just fly somewhere else.
For those who haven't learned their lesson yet, I doubt anything could move the needle.
> useless as a way to prevent people from being hacked
From being hacked by others. Google was just trying to protect their property, which is the ability to spy on their users' every move. Google themselves really don't need to "hack" their users for that, they already have all the access and all the data they could ever want. And they also have the ability to brick their users' devices at a moment's notice the same as Apple does.
Is this the second coming of Clippy?
Are you joking? Inefficiencies like that are a typical tell for LLM-generated slop.
And I'm sure their prompt whisperers are proud of their work.
Static libraries don't need to be "loaded first". They're part of the executable. That's why they are called static.
Enshittification optimization. Fully automated now.
Corporate dedication has been replaced by slop generators, as promised. They did say they'd make all the jobs obsolete.
He's the embodiment of the banality of evil. Just can't avoid being cliché.
I'm confused. The headline says, “Nothing between your mouse and your machine”, but the diagram has a box called “Agent” connected to the mouse. Is mouse input interpreted by agentic AI?
