You just go to "submit," type in the title you'd like your post to have, then paste the link in the link field. Clicking up arrows gives karma, i believe. It also saves stories (if you go to your profile, you can click on 'saved stories' or something like that and see links you've saved)

It seems if you've got less than 100 karma you cannot delete your posts/comments. I think I read that if you have more than 500 karma you can downvote. Are there other karma milestones and corresponding privileges?

Lolz. Even a reasonable post gets downvoted.
Now I'm just itching for downvotes. GIVE ME THEM.
So I hold an opinion and do have substantial intellectual abilities. Does that mean I must be erudite in every post? <-- rhetorical answer because the answer is an assumed "No."
They're two separate people?
God damn facebook. This is why i hate their motherfuckin' asses
And now other countries start doing the same as the US did 100 years ago. Soon they'll be outsourcing jobs too, though IDK to whom. Soon there won't be any cheap labor as the rest of the world catches up!!
Or maybe super poor countries will start being better off .... hmmm
Trying so hard to refrain from making juvenile joke.
probably will get downvotes for this. Totally worth it though.
I was just looking at reviews of this tablet. I really want one. It seems like it's got some pretty decent specs for $199

Fuck the man!!
That's slang for "This guy is off his god damn rocker." People like this who have such blatant disregard for proper procedure should be castigated into humiliation.
Well my point is not that everyone should be able to live off $18k a year. My point is that You don't need $500k a year to live decently. I have a new car, a good apartment and amenities such as cable TV and xbox live. Certainly geography plays a large role in individual costs. But again, I'm not trying to say everyone should live on $18k a year. I'm saying I (a single fellow btw) do, and it's a satisfactory lifestyle complete with all the necessities and a few luxuries.
In any case. It's not editorialized at all.
i'll hold up my sarcasm sign in case you missed it.
edit: the 'by bloomberg' remark was meant to convey that it wasn't the OP who editorialized things.
Bullshit. I live on roughly $18k a year net. buy a house, maybe doubles or PERHAPS triples my housing allowance. Have a wife and kids and things, in total, probably triple.
I don't think people understand how to not waste money any more.
Wow. that's not an editorialized headline by bloomberg.
Wow. This interview is SPOT ON. So applicable to pretty much every industry. Thanks for posting. Worth resharing through other networks. Hopefully more people will read stuff like this that actually explains the hiring problems employers face.
I always laugh when people question why others make more than them. Standard salary for mid-level journalists is around $27k a year. Teachers are around $35k. I don't know about other careers, but there's always somebody making less than you.
I've seen SEVERAL times that "most programmers can't solve fizzbuzz." I did this after just a few months of learning python, on paper no less (Ok, i had one if/elif statement in the wrong spot. a quick run of the script in the command line showed me it didn't work how I thought it should and I fixed it).
But are there any DATA that corroborate this largely anecdotal statement? I figure, it has to be much less prevalent than these statements. (Or if it isn't, I better get my ass in gear and really learn to program so I can make the big bucks).
But .... but .... anecdotes are what politicians use to get elected !!!! (e.g. Joe the Plumber, et al).
If we downvote anecdotes, we won't have a justification to vote for scumbag politician with a heartfelt story to tell!!
edit: here's a terrific example!!! http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/alabama-law-drives-out-i...
Is getting a customer to interact with its product really considered terribly clever or Apple-esque? Isn't this the goal of any decent marketer? I like looking at electronics at walmart, but it frustrates the hell out of me that I can't USE them. I'm not going to buy something unless I can test drive it first.
Aw. Too bad he closed the applications. Would have loved to apply.
But I wholeheartedly applaud the fellow. Private displays of charity to encourage others in their dream are always nice to see.
So much for that whole "you can do anything you set your mind to" bullshit they spout in most public schools (I'm assuming Scotland is the same way as in the US).
Funny how the powerholders are all talk until somebody puts their money where their mouth is (no pun intended). Here's to you, assholes in charge.
>>* badnewsbunny.com - delivering bad news for people through a hand-puppet. Still think this one would be a laugh, but a lot of bad things happened around the time I started it, so don't want to touch it.
One of the most ironic things I think I've heard on this site.
Couldn't it also be beaten by, say, a professional drummer who cadences each keystroke perfectly?
yeah. The thing about google though is that you can just sign out of your google accounts and they dont track you, I believe. Facebook -- nope. We're with you all the time !!!
I would say the difference is that, regardless of how it is used or presented, this ultimately links the information to a specific person, not just some generalized IP address.
I would assume they are typically upvoted for a reason. Obviously you have access to data I'm not privvy to, but 400+ upvotes in that little time would, I imagine, represent a
significant portion of people who read the post. Obviously the site is no democracy, and I think we all understand that. But I would also guess that user feedback is appreciated (hence the request to send feedback via email). I would also think that many users have the same questions, but do not bother with an email because it is not really worth the hassle, and upvote a thread like that just to voice their agreement [else they would not upvote, unless they were simply trying to troll].
The whole scenario is fairly minor, but it seems to raise at least a small concern among what I would guess is a respectable portion of the userbase.
edit: grammar.
Python is my first real attempt at learning to program. I love it!
