Waymofos would be better.
Re:What Happened to the Hiccups? on Tuesday February 25, 2020 @02:34PM (#22416503)
Google Trends shows a marked increase in searches for hiccups from 2004-present, also.

Love the edginess and design, but taking the user off-site (to the oflows.net domain, whatever that is) for sensitive application forms doesn't build a lot of trust imo.

botornot.com was registered in 2006. Someone was forward-thinking.

CRISPR / designer babies
Also ethylene glycol poisoning (antifreeze).
I wonder how many companies Google has wounded/killed with their search infopanels. For example, yesterday I searched for “speedtest” expecting Ookla’s speedtest.net to be the top result. Nope, now it’s a one-click speed test offered by Google at the top. Great for users, devastating for the sites at the top of the SERPs.
Re:Show HN: Should you buy a house and rent it out? on Saturday April 20, 2019 @10:33AM (#19706699)
Not just you. I input $3,500 rent, and it used nearly double that for the calculations. Hugely misleading.
So true. Be aware that you may have no symptoms in your legs at all, and still develop pulmonary embolisms.

As an otherwise healthy and fit adult male, my first symptom of my PE was a sharp stabbing pain in my chest when inhaling. Thinking I was having a heart attack, I self-admitted to the ER. I had 12 PEs in my lungs, and with ultrasound they found a 3" long deep vein thrombosis under my left knee. My left leg had absolutely no symptoms or pain. My PEs and DVT resolved with a 6-mo course of blood thinners, but I was lucky. PE mortality rate is around 15-20%.

Set your "stand up" timer for every 90 minutes and actually pay attention to it! And it wouldn't hurt to take a daily baby aspirin (probably should ask your doc first).

Sure they do, depends on your ear size. Happens to me if I simply bend over. (Still love my AirPods, but am forced to use silicone wraps on them if doing anything active with them.)

Very cool, Tyler. Just applied. :)

Ask HN: Anyone else seeing an influx of Nigerian scammers in Facebook groups?

I admin a niche FB group for golfers, more specifically for owners of a particular brand of launch monitor / golf sim software that runs around $3-5K to install in your home. A normal day usually sees around 25 legit requests to join the group.Over the last 3-4 weeks, I’ve been getting around 100 requests/day to join from mostly Nigerian individuals who joined Facebook within the last couple of...

That’s surprising, given the CDC’s view on the matter:

“[Small rodents] are almost never found to be infected with rabies and have not been known to transmit rabies to humans.

In all cases involving rodents, the state or local health department should be consulted before a decision is made to initiate postexposure prophylaxis.”

https://www.cdc.gov/rabies/exposure/animals/other.html

Squirrels (and others rodents) virtually never get or transmit rabies, so that’s not really a concern.

Neat coin! I just launched a coin project[1], but by carrying them in your pocket they’re meant to remind you to look for opportunities to help someone and then give it to them to pay forward. My first coin[2] has helped at least 3 homeless people in its short life.

Surprised he didn’t ask for $420M.

Great, jonesing for a thousand dollar device now. Is there an iOS app that does something akin to the OP-1?
Tour pros routinely swing driver at 120-125 mph, and produce ball speeds of 180-190 mph. I’ve seen numbers in the range of 2,000 - 4,000 pounds of force applied to the ball.

It’ll work until they launch a Google- product.
Re:Reality has a surprising amount of detail (2017) on Friday January 19, 2018 @10:19AM (#16186818)
For fans of extreme detail, I'd recommend The Mezzanine by Nicholson Baker[0]. Iirc, he devoted several pages to the feeling of the curls of a brown paper bag carried in his hand.

A gif of what happens when one step is just slightly too high:

https://imgur.com/hl3YWJD

Cats can right themselves in about 12 inches.

The problem is they land with legs extended down from floors 1 to about 7 (bad: impact is transmitted up through shoulders and hips), while higher than about floor 7 they spread their legs out and attempt to parachute (better: impact is uniform over entire ventral surface, terminal velocity is lower, mortality rate drops).

Apparently Venmo founder Andrew Kortina and Facebook's former Product VP Sam Lessin have been working on this in stealth for two years:
