Ask HN: What type of Auth are you using on your side projects?

I was looking at the Supabase docs and it was nice to see a long list of Auth work flows supported/documented. So my question is, here in October 2024, what are y'all using for Auth on your side projects. Password based, social, email, something else? If you are using social, which social do you support? Is there any public data on which types of Auth have the best conversion/bounce rates?...

Don’t worry. The next generation will use generative algorithms to make fake images that are indistinguishable from the real deal.

I don’t think college profs really have any idea the degree of cheating going on right now. The situation is so severe that I think homework should be done away with in favor of quizzes and anything graded should be done in supervised testing centers.

- the government should not be guaranteeing these loans - they should be dischargeable in bankruptcy That’s it.
I can’t help but this of my aging apple MacBook. I once had full functioning, non subscription versions of both windows office suite and Adobe photoshop and illustrator. Neither of those packages of software work now and the integral MacBook battery is swelling and a would be a total pain to replace.
It might be worth while looking at lichess and take some direction from their interface, which is quite nice.
Sounds like a good result.

Pakistani parents have good reason to not trust anything administered by a needle. 700 children recently contracted HIV. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/asia_pacific/hundreds-o...
So the bad guys won. OpenAI gets further from it’s non commercial origins and further from responsible research in this field.

The true feature was the political donations making their way back into the accounts of politicians.

I’m guessing this was done by using YouTube’s api to look at transcripts, which are time stamped. This is great. Anyone know if there is a Chinese equivalent video platform that has time stamped characters?

That’s a fun little web game. But isn’t brilliant supposed to be educational? This is not at all.

Instead of just iterating on a solid business another case of promising infinite growth, which in reality is just a different form of pump and dump. Fire the executives.
Something rarely mentioned is how much land the federal government owns. Maybe the feds don’t need to own 50% of Oregon and 80% of Nevada.

Reddit’s censorship of r/the_donald was a huge moment in the splintering of political discourse into disconnected silos. It used to be you could go to the front page of Reddit and see what each side of American politics was pushing that day. People on both the left and right would be confronted with news that otherwise they might not see in their personal echo chambers. That all died when spez and co first “quarantined” (ironic jargon choice) then ultimately killed T_D. Truly a sad chain of events. PS. T_D still lives at patriots.win fwiw.
Shadow banning should be illegal and all banning or throttling decisions should be explained publicly in real-time.

Ask HN: Alternatives to Sidewalks?

Hello. I live in a midsized city in the US that, for the most part, lacks sidewalks. As a results, the walkability of the city is poor. The reflexive response is, “just build more sidewalks”. But this can be expensive and I would think might interfere with utilities (ie water to residences, sewage line from residence, etc). Does anyone know of examples or alternative schemes for making streets...
