That's the good half of the non-profit world in a nutshell.
What makes you think this hasnt already been done?
Yeah, we're worse. They raised hell for sure but so far as civilization building goes they have most of us anglos beat.
Some of the best examples are too sensitive to share on this forum. Other things get flagged and reported. Some new topics/sources that squeeze by invite the bots.

The best arguments for Google's algorithms making people crazy for lay people would be Aaron Swartz like individuals who just go unknown.

I can think of atleast 4 individuals new to me the last 6mo ive discovered who used to cover court cases, ran NGOs, or worked as journalists that have been seemingly swept up in what looks like delusions.

Lots of typos, egegious oversights, etc#. Its hard to personify these individuals as theyre hard to reach and anyone w ptsd or whom knows people w ptsd know how hard it is to provide support to someone locked in a fight-or-flight reflex. After a terror/fear/paranoia becomes familiar anything else feels foreign. Human connection becomes scary.

Read up on bateson-esque schizomogenisis and reflect on the CIAs relation with the "unabomber".

Keep in mind the whole "easy to read" over any network thing openai had going on early on. Theyve only gotten better at hiding their datamining. Theyre more interested in your mind than your wallet. dont reinforce other peoples' algorithm if they wont be straight up regarding what theyre really doing with it.
Everything they do is about projecting power and silencing(i.e. drowning out) the "opposition"

It's much harder living without strong moral virtue.

I can think of atleast two individuals personally. One was a close friend i met dumping data from demon souls in the early 2010s.

He paid me $4,500 for a bespoke anime girl generator app made to run on calculators. He got knighted by the queen of england for his service to the state. I cant really say what he does but he knew as much about optics and generative ai as anyone at cambridge. He could construct things in adobe thatd terrify you. That statement was accurate maybe 8+ years ago.

Second person is family. Similar story but a full blooded american. Theyre a Quantum time traveller.

Silicon valley celebrities are geniuses in their own right but theyre also socially isolated martyrs that cant function without a whole grape vine feeding them.

SV iconoclasts fight and compete for finances. Govt employees/contractors fight for whatever they think is most right within the boundaries of whatever system theyre placed in.

Both SV and the govt are extractive as all hell for anyone with an iq over 160 but the govt has a lot more experience grooming peopl. No one is special and there is 70 years of AI research in front of you. Make it 71 years. Go unrecognized. Simple as.

What do you think happened after 9/11?

How many ai oppenheimers do you think there really are?

My pov is a twisted one but its simple.

Named individuals are state sanctioned sacrifices.

There is a brutual administration years ahead of the public. They are the sorts to sit back and watch while foreign dictators spin themselves out w last generstions ai model (but w a shiny bs veneer).

Sam altman, sergie brin, elon musk, bill gates, etc# are all just average genius smart.

Theyre just psychopathic sex addled drug addicts with alot of leverage on the law. That said, they arent the law.

Theyre great at seizing power from lay people but they dont know how to foster and hold onto a community of physicists, scientists, doctors, analysts, etc# with access to all the worlds knowledge/information.

For every silicon valley baby genius out there im certain there are atleast 3 more in some naval defense research facility or what have you.

While building the knowledge, skills, and staff required to apply these exact same tools towards ordinary americans.
Cryptography + guerrila warfare go hand and hand. AI too if you'd believe it. Look to history.

A bit tangential but my limited experience playing star citizen with eye tracking technology was exhilating.

With the technology out at the time (and the little i could do with it) i was mostly limited to exaggerated eye movements.

Repeated "full side eye" gestures were definitely uncomfortable (physically) and at times somewhat nausesting.

After a few weeks of steady gameplay things were noticeably better but still not something i could maintain without discomfort for more than 1.5-2hrs.

The worst law firm in this country in my eyes is K&L Gates. A black executive known for speaking up on racism, sexism, etc# went a bit too far when he blew the whistle on a large cybersecurity incident.

He wound up in jail for making threats.

The whole thing was a sham.

It's frightening to think about but one man at the helm of a major law firm has more power and influence in changing policy than any one elected official in washington.

Re:AP Exams Leaked in China on Sunday May 12, 2024 @10:55PM (#40339394)
I got a free education co-learning with chinese kids at CMU. 95% of all the course material for all their classes were already available to them in their respective language.

Most of it seemed superior to the actual course material as it most often included parables, idioms, diagrams, and community sourced notes. They all had an earnest plan to learn as much of the material (if not more) than their American peers but they were simply playing another game.

The problem isnt attribution. NSA cybersecurity professionals are groomed before theyre even in the agency. First at their respective governor's school, then through college, and then throughout their career once theyve been picked up.

Genius is a tightly controlled commodity.

The problem in my eyes is recognition.

I believe the US government has the ability to stop these attacks but instead chooses not to up until a certain point. You learn a lot running honeypots and attacking every machine in existence when you run with a community.

The US has been stockpiling "weaponized" software payloads for over two decades. Defensive actions would only serve as an opportunity for foreign actors to improve their own skills as well as highlight where our actual strengths/weaknesses might be.

It seems to me like the culture at most 3 letter agencies is one where theyre content to watch the world/country burn for as long as certain "red lines" arent crossed.

I sometimes like to imagine a derelect business ai from the 50s running the whole show. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Management_cybernetics

Spoiler alert: with a secondary audio source you can map out physical spaces as easily as one might with lidar
Most of you realize private equity firms ran your ”non-profit" colleges right? Unethical experiments involving collective intelligence have been fought over for years at CMU/MIT et all. How can yall read this and really not just wonder.

Atkinson's hyperlegible?
It's amazing. It turns it into a brand new game. More difficult but w waaaay more depth. It doesnt feel out of place in the universe.
Re:We suck at B2B sales, any advice? on Friday November 04, 2022 @02:53PM (#33471868)
I have experience in this exact space and a wealth of connections in my city....

Big no from me. Even with a 3/4 split i wouldnt feel comfortable w the whole arrangement.

Who would want to risk their professional reputation while doing all the legwork just to be treated like a cheap affiliate reseller?

If you want someone to really invest themselves in the future of your organization you need to first invest in their future.

Good people would be invested in the companies they sell to and imo you dont get access to peoples' friends, families, and professional acqaintances without health insurance.

There are a lot of similar agencies in the states here with a local focus w a strong emphasis on compliance and regulation that recieve support from the same institutions that govern then.

Until you have connections w the people that decide which companies get to keep their lights on you are just selling a very temporary tool - something that grabs peoples attention and provides immediate fixes for sure but ultimately something that will only exist to magnify friction

I'd be curious to see what could be build on top of the value flows flavor of this.
Re:Ask HN: Who wants to build a better dating website on Wednesday October 12, 2022 @01:21PM (#33180106)
I paid $15k for a failed dating startup's customers. I spent 6mo building it out before eventually canning it. My go to market strategy was to develop it as a freemium social app w dating features coming in once the user base took off.

The primary gotcha was something for syncing your instagram, spotify, audible, and a handful of other services and generating a graph based recommender engine whereby people could share their "snapshots" and engage in a micro-community of people sharing their "feeds".

The music side of things had a reactive element whereby you could enter two artists and it'd give you 5 suggested options you might also like between them to make the data input side of things exploratory but informative. In my testing, my friends were able to add 250 artists in under 5 min w each finding 3-5 new daily-listen artists the first time through.

The best dev of my life was def spent hacking a way on a thinkpad. Best project i ever got to work on was a wireless network bootable pcmcia card. 10+ years too late. Idk if ill ever have the time to ingest myself into doing something similar on a new interface. :/
It has been a few years since ive done any kind of android development but i would be more than happy to share some safety/security features as well as some potential implementations for alot of usecases i think youre missing.

The MAXS framework could do a lot to take this to the next level. http://projectmaxs.org/homepage/

If you wanted to create something that generates revenue offer your xmpp/lifealert system as a hosted solution and sell refurbished Motorola Z2 Forces pre-installed/configured w a custom rom.

I have done this exact same thing once before as part of a b2b/b2g saas solution and would love to contribute freely (wireframes, process diagrams, branding/design, documents, etc#). All i would ask for in return is your pov/guidance on some of my own efforts.

Your problem is product / market fit. Software tools for software folk and software tools for tech-enabled business are an entirely different ball game.

Developing for developers means focusing on the extreme end of things where you do 99% of your things right and 1% better than whomever.

Developing for business means helping them do 99% of what theyre currently doing with mixed results easier while making them dependent on your platform with that 1% piece you do to excellence.

You are advertising and developing for the wrong folks imo. How would a administrative assistant type at a nonprofit, edu center, or healthcare system look at what you have? A c-level executive w a c.s. degree but no practiced experience in actual development?

Normies want their tools to do more for them than they should because they dont know better.

Look at something like tallify and imagine where you could fit in providing executive (industry specific) solutions. Helping teams on the IT compliance/regulation side of things is just 1/2 of the picture for people already paying out the ass for stuff like saleforce they dont understand.
