Re:AlpineBSD on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @02:40PM (#50278831)
I now feel like the efforts put into trying to stop it are wasted and the people wasting these efforts are smart enough that they could instead be trying to steer the whole thing in a better direction.

Ignorance won't help us. I agree with the negatives, I just feel like this approach is backwards.

Re:AlpineBSD on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:30PM (#50277410)
I see why you see it as contradiction. I guess we've all been through a lot of contradictory feelings these past one or two years.

I just feel like eliminating LLM output is (1) not feasible (2) not the right solution to the problem.

Re:AlpineBSD on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @11:19AM (#50275154)
This AI policy is so utterly backwards and stupid I don't even have a nicer way of saying it.
Re:The Agent SDK on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @10:39AM (#50274442)
The video is still showing @grok/agent-sdk.

Meanwhile, we know Grok Bot was really Cursor beforehand... it must be wild in there.

They are comparing against their own previous models instead of competitors. Not a great sign.

18 employees on <$100k is not exactly rich.
Re:Pieces: Social Network for People on Tuesday July 07, 2026 @05:53PM (#48824422)
I didn't say anything about being queer. Also, if you grep the wikipedia page it doesn't include "queer" but it does include "disorder".
Re:Pieces: Social Network for People on Thursday July 02, 2026 @10:15PM (#48769935)
FWIW, I think if you're serious about building, you probably don't have resources to allocate to committees on mental disorders.

I just can't say how much I want to see the growth of open hardware.

how will the end user pay? will we all have stablecoin wallets installed?
Re:Tw-fade: pure CSS scroll-driven edge masking on Thursday June 25, 2026 @03:31PM (#48678146)
I don't find tw-fade particularly useful for me right now, but clicked through your site and I have to say I really like your approach to things (stress-testing shimmers comes to mind), big kudos.

edit: the scrubber split animation is dope too!

Re:Cloudflare launched self-managed OAuth for all on Thursday June 25, 2026 @12:59AM (#48669109)
I still kind of think of Cloudflare as "big ass CDN".

I can't keep track of all the new things they do. Something-something-R2? Maybe?

Re: on Wednesday June 24, 2026 @04:56PM (#48665520)
Distilled, this would be a nice macOS or Raycast feature, but I don't see myself giving up either $29 or 150MB RAM.

What I meant is that British India didn't exactly spawn out of a handshake between Allah & Mahavishnu.

I'm not trying to start a religious war, but I highly recommend reading Magnifica Humanitas [0]

Re:The war on terror primed America for autocracy on Tuesday June 23, 2026 @11:12PM (#48654644)
The partition of India feels close to when you burn food and instead of washing the pan properly you just throw it in the dishwasher hoping it will sort it out somehow.

It isn't exactly the inability of the dishwasher to dissolve crimes against cuisine where the problem is rooted.

Re:The worthlessness of Vitamin D is mildly exaggerated on Tuesday June 23, 2026 @05:19PM (#48651605)
Just two borders away, in Hungary, I've heard plenty of "magical vitamin D" tales. Tired? Take some D. Depressed? Take some D. Leg hurts? Take some D.

I do take it in the winter, but I'm quite skeptical regarding the panacea hype.

Back in the good old days you needed a few more steps before you got into debt after gambling.
Re:Deno Desktop on Monday June 22, 2026 @02:19PM (#48633874)
I'm very inexperienced with regards to "JS on the desktop" environments. Does this mean any kind of improvements for Electron apps? Is it possible to port them to Deno?
Re:Sakana Fugu on Monday June 22, 2026 @11:21AM (#48631455)
The base model where I live (Central Europe) is $194. The Pro is $357. The Max is $779.

I just averaged it out.

Re:Sakana Fugu on Monday June 22, 2026 @03:05AM (#48626743)
Of course, premium headphones existed before. I have a WH-1000XM4 sitting right next to me.

But your aunt Josie didn't have one. Now Apple is selling 80 million units / year and the ~$300 price tag has become normal. Before that, most people had headphones that were 10 times cheaper.

...or Tolkien.
Re:Sakana Fugu on Monday June 22, 2026 @12:53AM (#48625843)
I had a really nice Sennheiser before that, too. But now you hop on the subway and everybody sports one.
Re:Sakana Fugu on Monday June 22, 2026 @12:31AM (#48625691)
Maybe. But for now it's fascinating how $200/month has kind of become a normal tier.

It's similar to how AirPods normalised all of us having $300+ headphones. All of us would have scoffed at the idea a decade ago.

Re:Sakana Fugu on Monday June 22, 2026 @12:17AM (#48625618)
TIL: I just found out that base58 disallows I (capital i), l (lowercase L), O (capital o) and 0 (zero), so I could only generate GrxoJt4eNXE2QaQ55iPSa7hhiYdzCo8ZeAuokmh2Cai.

(don't send anything, sharing only because of the base58 fun fact I didn't know)

Re:Sakana Fugu on Monday June 22, 2026 @12:14AM (#48625597)
You pay $200/month to Anthropic, $200/month to OpenAI, $200/month to Cursor, $200/month to $200/month to Google, and seeing that it didn't come to a nice round $1024/month, you pay $200/month to Sakana to coordinate it all, because why not.

While you're at it, feel free to send me $200 as well, I'll generate a crypto address ending with "AI".

Knowledge cutoff is March 2024. Incredible.

I like to do deep dives like this not to memorise but to understand deeper layers, the spirit of the language, the way it moves, the way it unfolds.
