News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Beyond visual range engagements require powerful radar that cannot fit in the missile itself. The missile can only navigate the last leg of it's journey without relying on external information.
Fire and forget means it requires no more input/information from whatever fired it. The benefit is that the platform that launched it is free to do other things.

It is your decision to pay attention to the "news" and social media

Lmao
They still collect and save all of that information. It's just not displayed to you ;)
Imagine you got into Bitcoin in 2010 and bought a few hundred dollars worth. Now that is worth more money than you could even dream about. The real question is why not buy an nft for the lulz?
How many of these webrtc peer to peer file sharing sites are we going to have? I swear there are hundreds at this point. None of them offer anything different than each other. Sure, it's a great project for a frontend dev to throw together on a weekend. But that's about it
Ah yes the same WHO that refuses to even say the word Hong Kong.

Go read the book manufacturing consent.
Yes. I doubt any other organization has the capabilities to break Tor anonymity. They don't want to reveal their hand so you will only see their tools used in extreme circumstances. At most we will get some official parallel construction nonsense.
It's about time the NSA uses it's surveillance capabilities to stop a ransomware attack.
I find I miss out on important ideas when listening at high speeds. Some podcasts I listen to more than once. I guess it depends on the content really
Your mind replays previous experiences so that you can learn from them. Shortly after a traumatic experience, you may not understand what you did wrong, but after growing as a human, you may be able to understand it years later. Replaying experiences is more valuable than immediately attempting to internalize lessons.

Stop wasting your time. It's obviously a scam. Don't try to antiscam.
I agree with this. They just wait to find a small breadcrumb trail and then use that construct a case. The identifying the suspect is done through hidden means.
Yes but the government doesn't prosecute itself (see the director of the NSA lying to congress while under oath) and corporations are only ever hit with tiny fines they can pretty much ignore.

I love when I'm halfway through the first paragraph and a giant popup covers my screen. I have to wait for it to load in (because they had to make it a nice transition). Then I have to figure out how to close it. I have no idea what the popup said but I completely forgot what I reading. That's enough of that website.
Re:DIY Boat Monitoring System on Thursday May 06, 2021 @04:24PM (#27068637)
I interpreted it the same way but instead of being disturbed I searched for boat cleaning jobs and wondered how much the CIA and other intelligence agencies invest in bugging mega yachts.

What are your plans to do with it? Create a reseller website?
Re:Ask HN: How do you generally build a product? on Thursday May 06, 2021 @09:29AM (#27062900)
I agree. Acquiring users is harder than building the product. I have done this many times.
How do you defend yourself against something like this?
The only useful thing is the recoil pattern, which this site doesn't even have.
This reminds me of the post about SAR satellites being able to peer inside buildings. Setting up a corner reflector would cause a giant bright spot to appear on the radar return. If all the ships did this, it would be much more difficult to track them.

I don't understand how cannot code would even hold a job for more than a month.
Cannot write code is very different from cannot write code on a whiteboard to solve a difficult problem in a limited amount of time in a stressful setting where you constantly have to keep talking and explaining what you are doing and cannot pause to think.

Re:Ask HN: Why do you use Dark Mode on your computer? on Wednesday April 28, 2021 @09:42AM (#26969244)
Because my coworkers set the monitor brightness insanely high and white mode hurts my eyes

Storing credentials in git. Ahh a classic!

Just type a random email in the box. This is basic debugging knowledge.
