Intel should just spin off its fabs. You can't expect competitors to use your fabs.
Re:Somebody please stop the spam texts on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @02:10AM (#50255220)
I have been having this exact same issue lately.

My solution was to use an sms app from f-droid called quik-sms. https://github.com/quik-sms/quik https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=dev.octoshrimpy....

You can create a filters based on message content, to block the message. It seems to work.

I just have the block message filters working on messages only from phone numbers that are not in my contact list, and put filters like "STOP2END", "donation", etc.

Unfortunately there's no blocked/"spam" folder. If there was a "spam" folder for sms apps based on message content filters, that would probably be an almost 100% complete solution.

Microsoft also made it significantly easier to put play their xbox games on the PC, even their xbox 360 games.
I agree. However, I thought it was interesting that the article states that there were animal studies that apparently support this...
"During the 2023 episode over the Virginia Air Force base, Coast Guard personnel boarded a Chinese-flagged frigate off the East Coast under the guise of a routine safety check, according to multiple sources. But they found nothing definitive to link the ship to the drones. "

Does anyone have more information of the US coast guard boarding a Chinese frigate off the east coast, or was this article partially written by AI/hallucinations. I can't seem to find anything about it.

The Eastern neighbors all also had way more outside funding....
Re:DeepSeek aims to make its own AI chip on Friday July 10, 2026 @03:39PM (#48864265)
TPUs are on the 7nm node. I assume that this what their chips will be like.
The tariff route is what happened in the 1970s under the "chicken tax", which still exists today to protect the US light truck industry, and is pretty much the reason why SUVs reign supreme in the US market. SUVs are classified as "light trucks", which has caused a Galapagozation of the US car industry/market.
Now they just need to get rid of stuff like Sec. 622 of this bill proposal (https://www.congress.gov/119/bills/s4615/BILLS-119s4615pcs.p...) which would give all US intelligence to Israel.
Whenever I read about this, it always just sounds like nonsense to me, and probably another American agency simply trying to do some security testing. They said the same thing was happening around NJ a couple of years ago. How many countries can fly drones across the Atlantic, etc., or have some secret aircraft carrier that is so stealthy it can deploy drones without them being detected.

Very similar to Zhuangzi (Daoism).

荃者所以在魚,得魚而忘荃 蹄者所以在兔,得兔而忘蹄 言者所以在意,得意而忘言 吾安得忘言之人而與之言哉?

The fish trap exists because of the fish; once you've gotten the fish, you can forget the trap. The rabbit snare exists because of the rabbit; once you've gotten the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words exist because of meaning; once you've gotten the meaning, you can forget the words. Where can I find a man who has forgotten words so I can have a word with him?

Generally, historically it didn't because of what happened during the Sui Dynasty, which was short lived. The lessons from that period is still fairly engrained in the mindsets of Chinese people.
Showing your id at a liquor store doesn't have near the same issues of invasion of privacy, and big tech companies sucking down all your information, etc., while knowing your exact identity.
Re:Rice Theory: Why Eastern Cultures Are More Cooperative on Tuesday February 10, 2026 @09:51AM (#46960420)
In China at least the equivalence of WWI and WWII was basically the Warring States period (around 400-200BC), where tons of people die, therefore generally a strong dislike for war in Chinese culture. I always thought that WWII created a similar feeling in at least Europe.

There were other periods also of disunity in China, and consequently tons of people ended up dying as well. I'm sure it's similar with e.g. Japan where they had their own "three kingdoms" period.

I'm curious if you could just sideload the international version, or are there checks/it automatically accesses the US servers based on location.

Exactly it has more to do with which end of the stick you're on.
Re:So I started cloning the Wii U gamepad [video] on Saturday December 27, 2025 @11:16PM (#46408388)
This is great. A few years ago, I decided to buy a WII U, since I have basically every Nintendo console system since the NES. But the gamepad screen was broken and I couldn't sync the gamepad to the screen until I fixed it. And I tried to see if there was any alternative, but there wasn't until now. Hopefully that means more WII Us can be saved... You can sometimes find used Wii Us for $30 without the gamepad, while the gamepad itself costs around $100..
Perhaps Trump Jr's Unusual Machines.
Re:Pope criticizes US bid to 'break apart' US-Europe alliance on Saturday December 13, 2025 @05:13AM (#46253488)
Even if US seems like it's acting in bad faith here, I rather the Pope not step into politics of this sort and concentrate more on the religious realm. It seems like the papacy would be stepping backwards if it got more involved in politics/geopolitics again, and not simply looking for peace.
Re:Interactive World History Atlas Since 3000 BC on Saturday November 22, 2025 @01:35PM (#46017077)
Except for a very important one. Taiwan is not internationally recognized as an independent country by almost all nation-states. And those few that recognize Taiwan (or rather ROC) as a country do not recognize PRC as a country.

You may say that ROC is a de facto separate country, although the constitution doesn't imply necessarily so, but simply that there's a different government.

The fact that the international community and even it's own constitution doesn't recognize it as an independent country shows that it's more than legal fiction and simply that de facto China is still under civil war.

The Malacca Straits not being that wide, would make it easier for China's carrier killer missiles to destroy them.
Re:Germany to ban Huawei from future 6G network on Saturday November 15, 2025 @02:02AM (#45935580)
Huawei at least is giving their source code to be scrutinized. What can be said of other vendors?

Is the per capita still rising rapidly? China's CO2 growth levels have already started leveling off, and actually showed a slight decline as of late.

But commercial jet liners aren't as important to China for security. They have high speed railroads for that.
I'm pretty sure there were children where the parents basically locked them in cages or chained them to a post in the basement, where they had almost no social contact, etc. And in these cases they were considered effectively mentally disabled by the time they were rescued.
