49Wh is very small battery for a laptop, even a light one, which this one isn't particularly. So spec-wise not impressive. Not surprising as it's competing with some pretty big players with a lot of hardware expertise.

For reference the LG Gram 15 has a 72Whr battery at 1.1kg. The current champ in 'battery size to weight ratio'. Most ultraportables have a 50-60Whr battery at around 1.3kg.

Things have indeed slowed down but you're cherry picking numbers. +50% single-thread but +200% in multi-threaded!
Has anyone considered using utility-style CSS combined with semantic class naming? Example:

  <div class="profile-card"></div>
  .profile-card {
    @include tailwind-css-1
    @include tailwind-css-2
    ...etc...
  }
This way your html has semantic classes but the definition of the classes uses something like tailwind instead of raw CSS. One level of abstraction. Seems the best of both worlds?
nhost.io basically does this. it packages Hasura with its own auth backend, as well as an S3 compatible storage backend. They're adding lambda functions soon.

Effectively a firebase alternative using open source tech

So he interviewed at two really competitive companies. One CEO offered him to skip the entire interview chain after chatting to him for a few minutes. The other sent him a desperate gift by mail after he turned down their offer.

Scott must be really good at interviews! :P

Something unintentionally amusing about your comment. Sounds like the opinion of an alien playing SimToilet :)
Re:Am I Unique? on Saturday January 25, 2020 @06:56PM (#22149426)
Doesn't seem to be the case. I tried both browsers and got the same result, i.e. 180+ fonts sent (<0.01% match)
Re:Am I Unique? on Saturday January 25, 2020 @05:56PM (#22149158)
My fonts alone makes me pretty unique it seems (<0.01%). 180 or so fonts that the browser is happy to share with the world. Does seem a little unnecessary.
Re:Show HN: Learn When to Quit on Sunday December 08, 2019 @02:47AM (#21734802)
Agreed.

Also, there is really no reason to have multiple boxes you have to click. You could just have a single "next" button along with a counter to show how many choices you have left before you run out.

That's actually surprising. I would have guessed around 0.25-0.50g or so. I'm usually pretty good at guesstimations, and yet I'm off by a factor of 100 here.
Re:Estonia has a new way to stop speeding motorists on Saturday November 09, 2019 @06:58AM (#21490999)
This is like being put in the "naughty corner", for adults.

... and since most adults experienced this form of punishment during their formative years, it's bound to be super effective.

Brilliant!

List of performance improvements is mind-boggling:

How could a mature standard library / frameworks have so much performance gains to be had?

Closing in on a billion.

Got 7 lambos.

It is now April 3rd and Inbox is still working for me, both on iOS and Web. Is it too early to hope they may have changed their mind?
For a second I thought I was reading through my post history when this came up!
Re:Boston Dynamics’ new robot stacks boxes [video] on Friday March 29, 2019 @02:15PM (#19524136)
At this point I feel like Boston Dynamics has a designer whose job is to make their robots look cool/interesting, beyond what their function requires.

There's always something mesmorizing about them!

Re:Apple iPhone SE Available on Apple Store Again on Monday March 25, 2019 @06:04AM (#19481306)
I want an edge-to-edge iphone 7/8 myself. the SE is a tad too small and the X is a tad too big!

I really think they had the perfect weight size with the 6/7/8

Re:Samsung’s Foldable Phone Is the $1,980 Galaxy Fold on Wednesday February 20, 2019 @08:37PM (#19213808)
Does anyone know why both the Samsung and the other announced foldable phone have huge bezels on the OUTSIDE screen? That's just a regular non-foldable screen, why is it not edge-to-edge?

She got a bit unlucky tho I must say. I've lived there for 10 years, and have never seen it happen. I can only think of two friends who've been mugged during that time as well. Assuming 30 friends that's 150 man years per mugging :)

EDIT: she

Re:Chariot is shutting down on Thursday January 10, 2019 @06:10PM (#18879383)
My gf is using this everyday in London and it cuts her commute time by 30%. Godsend.. but she's alone in the bus 9 out of 10 times. We've dreaded this day but knew it would come. I'm about to tell her now. Crap!
I’ve never read an article with as many words (brands / technologies) that I have not heard of..

I must be losing touch with tech!

Re:iOS Menu on Saturday January 05, 2019 @04:18AM (#18830710)
it just needs a little refinement, where the menu contents shift to the left/right, and out of the way of your finger when you swipe down through them.
You made me smile
