There are often key assumptions the financial statements are based upon. Without clarity, you would never know.
I would have to imagine a large amount of work in the animal conservation space would be in the hardware market.
Re:Why Are Clinical Trials So Complicated? on Saturday May 02, 2020 @09:54PM (#23056284)
This is why compounds change hands so many times before they are successfully commercialized. Running a phase three study costs much more than a phase two. Pharmaceutical companies partner to pool the risk and share the cost.
Does that ever work?
Re:Ask HN: Failing startup, how to leave? on Monday April 20, 2020 @09:47PM (#22931041)
This is 100% true if you did not do your due diligence before you all committed to whatever you are building. One of the best ideas is to hire someone like me who has failed at building something and helped other people try and iron out some of the unanswered questions. Someone else already mentioned this. He is likely just as capable. It may take a fresh set of eyes and a fresh outside voice. I can point you to other people as well.

The actual potential market size may not matter. It is never a great idea to build a business from the top down. Instead, build from the bottom up by seeing if you can sell your product to whoever you think is the customer. The true test is right there. If you cannot get all of the stakeholders to the table due to needed partnerships, it provides another precautionary red flag.

This is pretty cool.

Re:Bouncing DVD Logo on Wednesday April 15, 2020 @06:46PM (#22884043)
This is key.
There has been a great deal of improvement in color sub 12“ displays in the CPG space. Start watching for them at Walmart and Target.
There always different types of projects. Some are platforms where If you can get multiple thousands of users, you can generate revenue from advertisements. From there you can scale into different business models such as freemium. The key issue is to know what problem you are solving and who you are solving it for.
You do customer development and make sure that you are solving an exerting pain. If there is no pain, there is no value proposition.

Re:Ask HN: Which tools do you use for wireframes? on Sunday April 05, 2020 @11:24AM (#22786098)
Balsamiq is one of the most simple tools to use. Many people may find drawing shapes in PowerPoint easer. The linking in Balsamiq works faster.
Re:Ask HN: Are .io domains out of style? on Thursday April 02, 2020 @02:57PM (#22762326)
How does each country register with ICANN? Or do they assign the domain themselves?
Re:Ask HN: Are .io domains out of style? on Thursday April 02, 2020 @02:49PM (#22762238)
I would say the .ly domain may have been a fad. The high cost of the domain likely was because of the countries origin - Libya. .io is assigned to the British Indian Ocean.
How does this encode the video?
Is this now just a problem on mobile phones in the USA now that we have the no call list legislation?

Re:Sony spins off camera business into separate company on Saturday March 28, 2020 @01:23AM (#22709415)
Sony has had great sensors since they debuted back in like 2006. I’m pretty sure it may even be the same mount now on their mirrorless camera.
It’s so much easer to just join a tech company than spend 2-4 years of your life working and wind up with nothing but failure and anecdotes. Back in 08 more people were condemned to that reality. Those people contributed heavily to the “hacker community”. Many people are just naysayers or contrarians, that isn’t a bad thing either. I would have to say, I’m not sure it is the most supportive community for an individuals mental health. Is this class somehow part of the media lab?
Re:Zoom needs to clean up its privacy act on Saturday March 28, 2020 @12:59AM (#22709322)
You could have 6-10 users in hangouts back in 13 for free.
Re:Zoom needs to clean up its privacy act on Saturday March 28, 2020 @12:57AM (#22709317)
I can vouch for this. Organizations are adopting left and right - both in the healthcare and food industry. Why is zoom getting more traction than google hangouts ever had?
Re:Unpatched iOS bug blocks VPNs from encrypting all traffic on Thursday March 26, 2020 @09:42PM (#22699798)
How exactly is this different than how tor works?
My best advice is to keep doing what you are doing and get better at it, or find something else.
