Copying software that was built and saying there is no scarcity is like saying you should be able to spend the millions of dollars you made by copying a $100 bill multiple times on an inkjet.
They play games and watch mindless YouTube videos. This isn't a very good argument.
Supply exceeds demand for free moderators. They have no incentive to change this.

Ironically, /antiwork is not on strike
It's interesting that only when Elon Musk took over and revealed the government corruption involved with Twitter do people jump ship.

Our government officials were actively banning both citizens and opposing political opponents they didn't like, which is a real threat to democracy.

If the Republicans were caught doing this it would be J6 style hearings.

Re:Ask HN: How should I prepare for AI taking over my job? on Wednesday May 17, 2023 @04:42PM (#35981022)
Focus on trying to take over other people's jobs using AI.
My job is based on results. I've worked remotely for 15 years now. Unless a manager isn't doing their job, remote work should be no problem.

Maybe they should just wear black masks like the left-wing terrorists that nearly burned down multiple cities in 2020.
It's only because he's a white male. Person of color suspects rarely get doxxed by the media and the story usually disappears the next day.

Yet, we should proscute GPL violations when the original GPL code is untouched.
Re:Amazon to lay off 9,000 more workers after earlier cuts on Wednesday March 22, 2023 @08:03AM (#35259773)
Right. Only blame Nike. Not the terrible governments that allow such conditions. Governments have the ultimate power. They can use the military or put people in prison.

If you look at Vietnam before capitalism and after. It's a big difference. But I don't think you care about this.

Why do you think children have to work in these countries? If not for companies like Nike, they would have nothing and no ability to feed their family because of the government in power.

You are the privileged one. Not understanding actual human suffering.

All systems contain human suffering. Capitalism allows for actual freedom.

You still haven't given me an example of a better system.

Re:Amazon to lay off 9,000 more workers after earlier cuts on Tuesday March 21, 2023 @08:32AM (#35245292)
Vietnam still considers itself communist, which really means corruption with some capitalism sprinkled in (how else are they going to get free money).

Capitalism is not why they are exposed to toxic chemicals as you say. It's the corruption...which won't be solved if we are using some other system.

I lived in Vietnam for a couple of years, very recently. I could drive around with no license and pay police officers some cash if I got caught. Sometimes they would shake people down when they were low on money, especially around Chinese new year. This was also in a big city.

I also wonder what your alternative would be? Your post reads like you are in the antiwork subreddit. Most people have this romanticized view of communism and socialism that we will somehow have exactly what we have now, but you won't have to work (or you will be given a home by the government).

It's funny how many people fight so hard to have someone else pay their bills.

When I was younger, I wanted to be part of it. Now, I realize that most of the leaders in this community are just petty dictators that at the time, had no power.

Now that their political party is in power, most support suppression of free speech, total government overreach like forced vaccinations, and especially suppression of their political enemies, and war. Everything they rallied against during the Bush era.

Hacking then also took a moderate amount of skill. Encryption was virtually non-existent and finding security holes was easy, especially when companies didn't patch anything.

It made me realize they were never hackers, just activists in hackers clothing. I lost all respect for the leaders of the hacker community from that era. Covid brought out the true colors of many.

Most wealthy Americans were never paying 96% in taxes, if any at all. There were many more loopholes during this time.

People are forgetting that the high tax countries are enjoying the fruits of lower-tax countries labor.

Technology and drugs are the big ones. Big, evil companies create life-saving drugs and generics are created and sold for pennies to these countries.

With no incentive to create (ie: large profits), humans will definitely not advance.

Money is also freedom. The less we are able to keep, the less free we become (and more dependent on the government/state).

The bigger revelation was that the Democrats and Twitter conspired to not only silence political opponents running for office, but a sitting president that didn't actually violate any of the rules.

This is total government corruption and the real threat to our Democracy.

You are leaving an important part out. They were sharing private information regarding his private jet location. He was also stalked a few days ago based on this leaked information.

Non-left leaning journalists and politicians have been permabanned for much less and many, for no reason at all (as per the leaks).

It's disingenuous to suddenly care about 'free speech' from the same group that has been colluding with the government for the past 5+ years to silence all political opposition and anyone they didn't like.

Re:Ask HN: Picking up where you left off strategies? on Wednesday December 14, 2022 @10:55AM (#33985284)
I use virtual machines that can be paused. I can freely go to different tasks without too much friction.

You should also document all steps that got you to a certain point, so they can be quickly recreated.

Re: on Sunday December 11, 2022 @10:01AM (#33943740)
Its strange that we care more about this than when our current sitting president has done this repeatedly since he took office
I made this exact argument in the early 2000s when open source starting getting popular and many in the tech community thought I was ridiculous.

I think it's ridiculous that open source developers give out their hard work willingly and then seem to think big companies are 'taking advantage' by not hiring them or funding the project.

It has nothing to do with ethics. Startups didn't steal anything. The developers gave it out willingly.

This sort of attitude has soured me to the entire open source community. They want to be able to give their work out for free, but then have a say in who uses it and how it's used, which is exactly the opposite of free and open.

The far left extremists on Twitter are still there, spreading hate, and never got banned.

Why so much attention to the far-right?

If I was his boss, I would be watching him regularly.

They dont need to organize. The government hides the crime statistics and the politicians make many crimes legal.
I never got covid. But, I also rarely ever get sick. I usually get colds once every couple of years.

The Harvard university president has stated many times that admissions are weighted and if you are Asian, will have a much harder time getting accepted.

It seems racism is accepted in academia, when it affects a demographic you deem 'problematic'

Re:HackerOne June 2022 Incident Report on Saturday July 02, 2022 @01:49PM (#31960960)
I had 5 reports disclosed to me yesterday that were part of this incident (Im a security researcher).

None were marked as duplicates, so I dont think the employee tried to take credit for my work.

Im glad Hackerone decided to be transparent about this incident.

Most likely because of the perceived bad press.
I discovered this flaw 3 years ago and sent it to many bug bounty programs. Almost all were closed as informative/not a security issue and I was paid $50 for one after 6 months as a low priority.

This issue will most likely never get fixed as I already let most of the companies in this article know it was a problem...and they just don't care.
