News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Well you both prove each other’s point ;)
It depends on what you’re typing. If you’re coding, it’s probably faster to type `{}[]();|` or 2,450,712 than to say it.
But how would you distinguish all the sounds that don’t require any tongue movement, like (most of?) the vowels?
Re:Git for US Legislation on Monday November 02, 2026 @07:51AM (#50336142)
Of course it doesn’t. HN != Y Combinator.
Re:OccupySaaS on Monday November 02, 2026 @07:51AM (#50336140)
That’s a good point.
Re:OccupySaaS on Monday November 02, 2026 @07:14AM (#50335804)
So you were ok with all these when you were paid for it, but now that you are laid off suddendly these are not acceptable anymore?
Re:WikiCity – Explore 100k Wikipedia Articles as a 3D City on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @09:50AM (#50273551)
Is that because everyone is always complaining about AI slope that this vibe-coded website has no text to explain what it does? I understand that heights are proportional to views, but how are the buildings placed in the city? What are the lights for? And above all, why? Why this project, how is it interesting(?), why showing articles as buildings?
Re:Git for US Legislation on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @05:54AM (#50271161)
Is git pointless for code that is not run?

Re:Today, we hacked what we'd set out to hack: the iPhone on Friday October 23, 2026 @12:34PM (#50211661)
Yes, actually PHP was not invented but discovered in nature. That’s why it’s a bit wild sometimes, because it still remembers its origins.
I’m not saying the contrary. My point is that the lack of sideloading may also be a good thing, depending on your point of view.
iOS not allowing sideloading is probably the biggest reason I’m happy my family is on iOS.
> If users don't read that's on them.

Nobody reads warnings or errors. StackOverflow is full of questions where someone pastes a clear error message and asks what they have to do when the very error message tells them the solution.

Also, scammers just tell people to ignore warnings and they do it. If someone is able to convince you that your child is in danger and that you have to bypass all warnings to help them, you _will_ do it.

> I love how everyone is acting now that like in good ol' days(2022) every website was made by a hand with virtually no bugs but a lot of love.

Please point out where I said that. It’s not that "in the good old days" websites were perfect, it’s that every single website coded in 15 min with a LLM like this one tries to look great but is full of random bugs that a normal human would have seen if they had done this by hand.

Re:Quad9 (DNS Resolver) to Exit France on Thursday October 22, 2026 @12:33PM (#50197670)
"french ips" don’t mean anything as the post said; see their case in Germany.
Re:What's Getting Pwned on Thursday October 22, 2026 @11:25AM (#50196705)
The "sponsors" are just other random AI-generated websites by the same author.
Re:What's Getting Pwned on Thursday October 22, 2026 @11:23AM (#50196675)
Not surprising for an AI slope website. It looks great until you start clicking buttons and see that everything’s broken.
Re:What's Getting Pwned on Thursday October 22, 2026 @11:22AM (#50196656)
Isn’t that true for every generation of LLMs?
Re:OpenAI CLI on Thursday October 22, 2026 @07:07AM (#50193770)
It’s right there in the description: "Official CLI for the OpenAI API". There’s nothing to be excited about, it’s just a CLI for an API.

> Which is why I find it pretty funny that Ozempic is arguably the biggest weight-loss breakthrough in decades - and all it does is make you…eat less. Billions in R&D, and the answer was the platitude the whole time. Ha.

The problem was not that we didn’t know what to do ("eat less"), but to enable that solution.

It can be both at the same time. An interesting result from a good research can be a free ad for the company.
Re:Upcoming Critical PHP Security Release on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @06:57AM (#50178841)
There’s already a Wikipedia page for it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PHP2Shell
Re:Yet another way to invoke functions without parentheses on Friday October 16, 2026 @10:36AM (#50118887)
Don’t assume either malice or incompetence when it’s just that you don’t understand the context and the reasons things are this way.

> I started a new folder on my Mac, and after appointments I’d dictate what happened and what the doctor said and have the AI make a new document summarizing things and asking its own follow-up questions for next time. Nice to be able to refer to this over time.

This is good advice for pretty much everything actually. It could be summarized in "write things down". Even if you don’t feed that to an AI, it’s always good to keep a record.

It’s not simple at all. Check the source: https://github.com/aboard-io/tinylittleoffice

AI doesn’t magically maintain things, you still have some human overhead.

There’s nothing lucrative in abusing privacy, and yes the government is busy but it has nothing to do with a "corporate agenda", any government or any country with more than a few millions of people is busy, agenda or not.
