With boot strapping at least you can de risk with consulting/freelancing. And I think with the new generation of software development tools it’s much easier to validate the core business problems without grinding out code for weeks on end.

I’m sure you also give out raisins and sugar free mints at Halloween too.

Ya I say we come up with some type of “final solution” for global Jewery. Would be much less awkward for the rest of us.

Re:Cursor 2.0 on Wednesday October 29, 2025 @02:14PM (#45750846)
I might get this with ui/styling experimentation. But shouldn’t devs have an idea of what they’re building - the specific building blocks, logical, and data flows - before you prompt? I couldn’t imagine getting three different one shot attempts at an implementation and having to validate and read through each one.
Re:Meta is axing 600 roles across its AI division on Wednesday October 22, 2025 @05:14PM (#45675228)
You’re on the mark - this is the real challenge in software development. Not building software, but building software that actually accomplished the business objective. Unless of course you’re just coding for other reasons besides profit.

How much of this zeitgeist is fueled by Elon’s ketamine dependency issues? Certainly non zero!
Gotta keep that cash flowing! Society be damned.

This is performance - the human brain doesn’t work like this.
Re:Development Speed Has Never Been a Bottleneck on Friday September 05, 2025 @08:37PM (#45145405)
Typing syntax and dealing with language issues takes a lot of mental overhead that AI mostly solves in the right hands. It’s not zero!
Re:Ask HN: Why hasn't x86 caught up with Apple M series? on Monday August 25, 2025 @09:09PM (#45021113)
I’m sure it’s great.

As a layman there’s no way I’m running something called “Pop!_OS” versus Mac OS.

Re:Pixel 10 Phones on Wednesday August 20, 2025 @06:23PM (#44967165)
Samsung Galaxy S3, HTC EVO 4g, Motorola Droid.

I used to do all kinds of things…tether to my laptop without it being supported in my data plan, torrent, etc.

I also got tired of the platform skins depending on the manufacturer.

If I’m not going to utilize the customization of Android, then I might as well go with the more consistent and refined experience out of the box.

Also iMessage! Hate to say it but my social group is primarily iOS so the experience is superior.

Re:Pixel 10 Phones on Wednesday August 20, 2025 @06:09PM (#44967050)
I used Android for many years. I got to the point where I didn’t care about or want to customize my phone anymore.

I was tired of my Android phone feeling like it was falling apart after a year.

I have enough things to think about, troubleshoot, and tinker with…I don’t need my phone to add to that list.

Re:The Quiet Disappearance of Skeptics in the AI Gold Rush on Monday August 11, 2025 @11:42PM (#44872157)
The worst externalities of AI (mass social disinformation/manipulation) were already realized years ago with the Facebook algorithmic feed. Producing content wasn’t the limiting factor; AI-enabled algorithmic targeting to maximize ad revenue without any consideration for negative externalities has already eroded civil society.
Re:When Mark Zuckerberg Moved Next Door on Monday August 11, 2025 @11:40AM (#44865442)
There’s a reason “Zuck” needs to spend millions on security va someone like Cook…
Re:Ask HN: Want to leave my job with nothing lined up on Saturday August 02, 2025 @09:59PM (#44773476)
If you have money saved up and you’re willing to take on some (relative) risk, then getting out of a situation where you’re burned out is probably best. Long term burnout can cause serious health issues which could affect your ability to find work, but also to do a good job in whichever is your next opportunity.
Re:Claude Code Introduces Specialized Sub-Agents on Friday July 25, 2025 @09:02PM (#44690353)
This looks like a yarn ball (in not a good way)
Re:OpenAI prepares to launch GPT-5 in August on Thursday July 24, 2025 @02:34PM (#44674369)
Agree on the usefulness of models. They still require a lot of babysitting for software development. We’re seeing marginal improvements, but the aggregate utility still adds up over time. Am just skeptical of OpenAI at this point for most things.
Re:OpenAI prepares to launch GPT-5 in August on Thursday July 24, 2025 @02:14PM (#44674108)
They can call it whatever they want…not sure that has a great deal of meaning unless there’s a GPT-4/Claude 3.5 level step change.
Re:Claude Code now supports Hooks on Tuesday July 01, 2025 @02:09PM (#44436582)
Agreed. Trying to live in a high level of abstraction without understanding the components of the system will cause the project to fail after a certain point.
Re:Use Copilot Agent Mode in Visual Studio (Preview) on Monday June 16, 2025 @02:20PM (#44292034)
Get one of the max plans! It pays for itself.
I was getting this with claude (sonnet) 3.7

Restarting the editor worked! Can also try restarting the computer.

Re:Ask HN: Is Twitter down? on Sunday December 11, 2022 @11:39AM (#33944688)
I’ve had problems with my feed for the last few days. Only showing the same content exclusively people I follow. I use web and tried the app and the same thing, thinking it was a browser issue.

Re:Heroku CI and Review App Secrets Compromised on Tuesday May 17, 2022 @08:57PM (#31418069)
HN with the quality security advice, with all the recommendations to rotate config vars just to be safe.

Heroku CI and Review App Secrets Compromised

Just got an email from Salesforce: "Action Required: Heroku security notification".Looks like the database that stores pipeline-level config variables for both Review Apps and Heroku CI were compromised.Per Heroku, "...any secrets you set in Review Apps and Heroku CI config may have been compromised and should be rotated".This...is really messed up :/

Hit it right on the head.
I have a react native app published as part of our SaaS software suite. I don’t think users notice or even care if things feel marginally non-native.

I’d agree optimizing user experience by developing in native code might be important if you have a game or social media app where the worth of your company is directly correlated with your app install metrics.

Do you have any anecdotes or data that illustrates that users will be “confused” or “insulted” by non native apps?

Ya except Mill Valley and Sausalito in Marin county both experienced blackouts during the most recent shut down. Both of those cities being rather wealthy.
