News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Thanks. Do you only connect Dex + XReal + Keyboard with no mouse? I'm worried no mouse will be uncomfortable.
What bluetooth keyboard do you use? I thinking I want to try this out :)
According to https://developers.cloudflare.com/turnstile/

A pay-as-you-go option for advanced features will be available in early 2024 for self-serve customers.

Users can continue to access these advanced features below our 1 million siteverify request limit.

So it seems it will be not so good for free users.

In Korea, they sell complete systems that do this. Basically sensor and HVAC and/or kitchen stove fan. These systems are built in high-end new apartments.

May I ask how much you were paying Stackpath per year, as Akamai "welcomed" you aboard and I don't think they are doing that for all customers?

Namecheap is horrible regarding legal threats and how they manage them. In my experience, they threaten to shutdown domains with 24 hours notice if you do not respond to legal threats. Although I avoided being shutdown, I almost didn't respond to such an email thinking the email from Namcecheap was spam. I highly recommend avoiding Namecheap for business.

Currently I migrated to Gandi with no problem.

If you search on hacker news there are some people including me who have bad experiences with namecheap, as they threaten to cut off domain itself easily when they get complaints. I am not talking about hosting, but the domain itself. For any large enterprise client, I recommend against using them. Right now, I am on Gandi and only use them for domain, even reading this I'd still pick them over namecheap.
Re:How SMS Fraud Works and How to Guard Against It on Wednesday March 01, 2023 @06:11AM (#34981054)
Does anyone know of a good maximum price cutoff to use for SMS that would allow most non-fraudulent messages while blocking expensive fraudulent ones?

IMHO Google Chat is utter trash.

I don't think normal people will be using a PWA for chat on desktop computers and like it. The lack of an option for a normal clean native client on desktops is astounding to me. reference) https://support.google.com/chat/answer/9455386?hl=en

Finger check will usually only detect a huge prostate or rectal cancer(not other portions of the colon), or a rectal cancer just next to the anal canal.

Colonoscopy(can detect polyps BEFORE they become cancer, but more costly and hard for patient) is the gold standard for detecting colon cancer, along with fecal occult blood which is cheap and easier to do but will detect only more advanced cancers. For prostate, the early detection and screening is usually using done using a PSA blood test.

I agree with that. I was just emphasizing the livelihood of multiple people and a whole business depended on answering a email from namecheap within 24 hours due to an complaint they received.
My experience with namecheap is similar very bad too. They also sent me an email saying if you don't respond in a short time(24 hours) your domain will be revoked. Related experience: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=14139288 I moved my domains from namecheap to gandi.net and so far no problems. I would avoid namecheap like the plague for any large site. Of note, I had millions of unique vistors per month on that domain for a normal legal site.

ycombinator uses gandi.net too.

and even if they obey us and internation laws, threating to revoke a domain within 24 hours if no reply regarding an external complaint, with just an email warning is ridiculous and not how other reputable domain registrars work.

Didn't realize that might be annoying... I added 24 hours to the comment.
Note on recommendations of namecheap in this thread. My experience with namecheap is very bad too. They also send emails like godaddy saying if you don't respond in a short time(24 hours) your domain will be revoked. [Edit] Added 24 hours to short time

Same experience. It is nearly unresponsive on high core count servers like high end epyc cpus.
Do you know if this occurred to a free or paid account?

To be fair, I have been testing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure(OCI) on a paid account for about 2 years now and actively monitor server hosting forums.

During that time I have had no "abnormal" problems with paid production account.

However, it is well known that Oracle accidentally nuked free/trial accounts early on, and again recently accidental nuked free/trial accounts reserved public IPs. However, I know of no such events for paid accounts, and paid accounts on OCI should be production ready quality in my experience.

On the other hand support really is somewhat bad, but support is free and the cloud costs are much less than AWS, while having better products than similar priced cloud products such as Lnode, Vultr, Digital ocean.

Re:Ask HN: Recommended Domain Registrars? on Tuesday December 21, 2021 @03:45PM (#29641903)
In the end I checked what 4chan used. In the past they used Gandi. Currently they use Cloudflare.

I went with Gandi as I suspect their support is more geared toward domain specialization. I don't like companies with no margins, and as Cloudflare domain sales officialy have no margin so they are definitely cheap in price, I find their non-paid non-enterprise support bad in quality. Gandi seems ok support and policy wise. Gandi also has paid telephone support if needed in emergency which is fine with me.

I would strongly recommend against namecheap.

You can only tell how a registrar handles problems when they occur. I ran a large non-controversial content forum ranked high globally, but a user posted illegal image, namecheap.com suddenly sent me a link warning that they will suspend my domain completely within 24 hours, if I did not delete two problem images (which were inappropriate/troublesome images but in the context of the forum posts, "a very poor attempt at humor").

If I missed the warning email or checked my email after 24 hours they would have completely suspended my domain. I'm talking about a site with MILLIONS of visitors per month and ten thousands of posts per day, not some small blog. I thought the warning was SPAM then looked at the headers and then found it was really namecheap.

iOS 15 privacy relay uses prior recent Cloudflare whitelist IP range

The new iOS 15 privacy relay uses prior IP range 104.16.0.0/12 removed in Apr 8, 2021 as can be seen https://www.cloudflare.com/ips/ This a very recent change and probably many Cloudflare users have this whitelisted on firewall. This will allow iOS 15 privacy relay users to easily bypass many Cloudflare firewall and server security settings.
