Show HN: GitPushups, block your code if you don't do pushups during your workday

https://gitpushups.com

Hi HN!I made this tool for a hackathon last year and since then me and other developers have done ~40K pushups during our workday.I've made all the features free (originally was freemium to compete in RevenueCat's Shipaton 2025) and also added an apple watch app.More on those changes in the first "monthly press" update: https://gitpushups.com/monthly-press/october-2026What do you think?

great insight on the lunch (harder for remote team, but there are other opportunities!)

excellent framing! a big fan of "pair coding" or "synchronous code reviews" when we catch this signal

thanks for sharing!

Ask HN: Managers of HN, how do you track IC progress

Hi Engineering Managers of HN!I'm looking for tooling—systems, methodologies and software—you use to successfully manage your engineering team.Strategies I've found helpful:- One shared google doc per engineer - Regular, short check-ins (can be async) to track progress against team and personal goals - Nudge on opportunities for growth (budget spend, domain ownership, etc)The wider company is...

Show HN: Git Pushups, block your code if you don't do pushups

https://gitpushups.com

Hi HN!I made this app out of necessity: sometimes I'll troll over my laptop all day without moving until lunch break or work is done.No good.So I made git hook to block my git commits if I didn't do some calisthenics.Later, after I noticed it was useful, I decided to open it up for others. It works like this: - Download the iOS or Android app - Install the .git hook - Do daily pushups with the...

thanks for sharing!

You'll get stronger because of two principles here:

1. Habit stacking -- grow a habit by attaching it to an existing one (daily code) 2. Greasing the groove -- frequent repetitions builds strength

...and it's pretty fun!

AFAIK a lot of programmers do this before their editor would auto close them and so its now muscle memory to

(+)+Ctrl+B or (+)+ ←

to finish a statement
