It's about expectations. They missed expectations on earnings, meaning they're less valuable than people thought.

I think the majority of traffic is from Enterprise customerd that goes through their API. Their consumer facing products do lag, but I don't think they care.
Re:Gemini 4 Carbon on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:56PM (#50278028)
I don't think that's right. Carbon and Argon have the same price.

I suspect they're using a new naming convention because they had previous contractual obligations tied to the "pro" and "flash" naming, and by switching to a new naming schema they avoid those commitments.

Re:Gemini 4 Carbon on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:53PM (#50277969)
They released Argon shortly after announcing it, so I think some benefit of the doubt is reasonable here. They claim they're already evaluating it via the government.

I suspect they're announcing it for two reasons: to get ahead of all the leaks; and because it's earnings report day.

us-east-1 is located close to the NSA and a huge fraction of the American military and intelligence apparatus. And Washington, D.C.

It's probably one of the safest places on the planet.

Immigration makes the whole country wealthier. An immigrant's success doesn't harm you. Making America an undesirable country to work in harms you. A rising tide raises all boats.
Re:Anne Carson wins Nobel Prize in literature 2026 on Thursday October 08, 2026 @11:25AM (#50006952)
Your loss. One of the most beautiful works of literature and short. Is the depiction of gay people that distressing to you? I read books about straights all the time.
Partially because organizations like Facebook spend heavily to ensure they're not taxed fairly.

28 years. It's been 28 years that they were on the frontier. Search was the precursor to all of this.
Re:Energy Timelines Photovoltaic on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @04:06PM (#49913597)
I think the story is even rosier than that. Coal power is dying, quickly.
Re:America.gov – Whatever you need from government, start here on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @06:37PM (#49901751)
I dunno, I believe that everyone is worthy of thriving and that requires education.

We'd be better off with naive people than monsters like you in my opinion.

Re:Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @05:54AM (#49890606)
There is a technical definition of genocide. There's no ambiguity as to what Israel is doing, only people like you who are probably concern trolling.

Bruh it's literally text book.
Who is giving you the idea that trade makes things more expensive?

The blog post lost a bunch of text in the middle due to bad copy/paste, I think.
Re:When did Google get so f-ing weird? on Sunday September 27, 2026 @08:24PM (#49872193)
It's not about shorter vs longer.

Many people who learned to search the Internet in early 2000s learned "boolean search queries" (terms connected with AND or OR). They're talking about the difference between boolean search queries and natural language search queries.

... You still are supposed to act in the best interests of your share holders.

"Obviously the CEO was going to break the law, anyone who thought otherwise was a fool." is not grounds for voiding the legal obligations that CEO has to his shareholders.

Re:We Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Campus Surveillance on Saturday September 26, 2026 @12:34AM (#49853233)
Those protests were anti Genocide and anti land theft, calling them anti Israel is misleading.
No, they would simply not buy it.
No. They can do that with an order covering the specific parameters under which they care about it. Supply chain risk definition is about adversaries and sabotage, not companies dictating contract terms.
Supply chain risk is a technical definition not a vibes based one.

And companies absolutely have the right to dictate terms. The idea that the DoD has the unilateral authority to do whatever it wants is literal textbook fascism. It's never been the law in the US and it should not be now.

??? What are you talking about. Anthropic isn't an adversary and they're not required to sell for purposes they don't want to. It's not sabotage and it's not malicious.

This is a designation reserved for terrorists and the link.

Using Claude for working on the refrigerators at the commissary is not a supply chain risk. You're just making stuff up.
This is straight up fascism. The DoD could have simply used a different provider but instead they're trying to destroy anthropic as a company.
No. This also means that no companies that work with th DoD can use anthropic models for any purpose.

IDK man, have you read the Bible? I don't think that's really the Jesus model laid out there.

He's causing a remarkable amount of harm to some very scared people.
Re:The Price of Intelligence Is Falling Rapidly on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @10:08AM (#49816444)
Surprisingly, this isn't necessarily true.

To take an intuition: there are lots of problems that are easier to pose and to check than they are to solve, in mathematics.

Re:Transit rewards (Waymo pays you to take the train) on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @01:46AM (#49812112)
Disagree lol.

We could move the entire population of San Francisco into full time care for very little compared to what we're spending on AI.

Re:Transit rewards (Waymo pays you to take the train) on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @01:46AM (#49812101)
They're discarding the cost per mile to a driver. If you add that back (and especially if you add externalities back) driving is more expensive.
