Perhaps this is why BASIC originally used LET in the form LET X = X + 1, to imply a calculation rather than equality.
Re:What if your website had business hours? (2022)
on Friday April 11, 2025 @12:04PM (#43655382)
There was a time when I had to goto the bank in person during business hours and interact with a teller. There was zero chance of getting hacked, the tellers knew me, and I had to live a more intentional life. Perhaps business hours for a website means real people are there actively monitoring its security and activity.

Accessibility wise, for those people with impaired vision, a larger mouse cursor obscures the tool tip text making it unreadable.

I recall the KSR33 as being quite enjoyable to type on. The machine only required a light touch.
There was a different flow to programming on continuous paper where you could easily look back over your work. I would tear off the program to study it.

Re:The original source code of Microsoft GW-BASIC from 1983
on Thursday May 21, 2020 @10:49PM (#23268233)
Have an original IBM PC sitting here. It has a 5 pin DIN plug on the back to connect a casette tape drive. I also recall BASICA.COM on diskette leveraged the BASIC routines in the original ROM, so it was about 1/3 the size of GWBASIC.EXE.

I recall using some open source Delphi software that allowed auto reload of an ISAPI.DLL just by replacing the DLL in the folder. That saved an iisreset. Never got a chance to thank the technical wizard that created that.

It lets me run some of my favorite Window's programs like quickpar, winscp and windiff on my Mac without the bulk of a VM or requirement for a Windows license to run on that VM. I also don't have to maintain a Window's install.
