And so, in 2050, the Nokia Shield Initiative was launched. 500 (american) football field sized Nokia 3310's were put into orbit to protect the earth.
I'm in a weird position of taking both ritalin and celexa. It makes me both anxious and focused.
One of the reasons I've committed to never having children is because there isn't a NEED for more children. We (our species) has a far excess of humans to survive just anything.

Paywalled.
I clicked on the link and closed it after 3 lines. No. JUST no. I will not stand for those columns. You have KILOMETERS of virtual space on a webpage. You are not stuck on a physical dead media. Don't pretend to be.

You may also be interested in the field of biological computing (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biological_computing#Biochemic...). Since your background covers both biology and computer science. Plus the field is new enough that you could be a part of some exciting research.
Re:My Grandfather Thought He Solved a Cosmic Mystery on Thursday November 01, 2018 @06:06PM (#18358905)
I'd say that even if your answer is completely wrong, at least you can document WHY it was wrong. And maybe someone can open up a new vein of inquiry that branches off yours.

It reminds me of a sci-fi story where people who decided that they were tired of being emulated retired to a virtual mine where they try to discover new mathematical proofs.

They didn't have to do it, since it served no real purpose. But it opened up new avenues of knowledge.

Indeed, though mildly predictable. If true, which is yet to be seen, They probably saw the money and thought why should someone else get so much money while they continued to struggle.
Re:Lemming Suicide Myth: Disney Film Faked Bogus Behavior on Thursday June 14, 2018 @08:35PM (#17316561)
Wouldn't xenocide be a more apt description? A quick search for genocide gives the definition of:

"the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular ethnic group or nation."

While xenocide is described as:

xenocide (plural xenocides)

The killing of a stranger or foreigner. (science fiction) The genocide of an entire alien species. (US, colloquial) The intentional killing of an entire foreign (plant or animal) species.

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/xenocide

Either is fine really, just seems like a semantic curiosity.

Literally 30 seconds of searching brought up a IFF transponder that would add 100 g (3.53 oz). Why isn't a state owned drone not equipped as such? (XPC-TR Mode C Transponder)
I'm kind of curious about the person whos mental construct crashed. How long did it take before her mind was able to interpret the math again? Was it a slow boot up or was it instant?
Re:Turning web traffic into a Super Computer on Saturday March 03, 2018 @04:46PM (#16511799)
Ok, this is similar to Gridcoin (https://gridcoin.io/) , Golem (https://cryptoslate.com/coins/golem/) , SPARC (https://sparc.network/) , et al. I could keep going, but the point is, something like this exists. And we are seeing the issues of what happens when you embed a program that takes advantage of processing power. You get things like Coinhive (https://coinhive.com/), which were meant to be benign, turned into botnets.
There are projects like gridcoin, uscore dot net, that use mining to compute scientific research. It is considering using a Proof Of Research approach.
Re:Carmageddon is Coming on Monday July 17, 2017 @02:45AM (#14786181)
Replace the word "car" with segway and this article seems like a repeat of claims of entire cities having to be redesigned around this marvelous new invention.
Cellular substrates are just a different kind of machine platform.
Don't copy that floppy!
Re:How I’d Fix the Internet on Sunday December 25, 2016 @12:49PM (#13254818)
In some ways, there are. If you consider china's Great Firewall, Tor, I2P, various encrypted spaces. They aren't the "internet" so much as a layer over the internet.

Would like to point out, unless you are running on non-x86 hardware or a tablet, the term pc still applies to linux based hardware.
Not sure if this will help any. http://www.emsps.com/oldtools/msdos.htm I also read about using a CF to IDE adapter. http://www.yqcomputer.com/1118_467_1.htm

It'll be interesting to see what happens when the technology to generate milk from artificial mammary glands becomes a thing. We are already on the path to eliminating the need for bovine meat processing.
Re:No Treason: The Constitution of No Authority (1870) on Sunday June 12, 2016 @10:11PM (#11891356)
I'd argue otherwise. The constitution sets out the defining goal of a society. Call it the rule-set for the society as a whole. If you disagree with the defining rules, that is fine. You can chose any number of governmental models on this planet. But don't expect the rest of us to agree to your rule-set.
Perhaps Death has a nut allergy?
I think it was more for the practical research rather than actual use. Human response, movement tests, acceptable noise levels etc. All of that is very valuable in of itself.
Re:TSA Doesn’t Care That Its Luggage Locks Have Been Hacked on Saturday December 19, 2015 @09:11PM (#10765756)
If you REALLY, REEEALLLY need the things with you, you could always do something like UPS with signature and insurance. Make the insurance level something like 3x the value of our items and you should be good.

Re:Why the Internet Needs IPFS on Monday October 05, 2015 @09:44AM (#10331730)
And how would you deal with materials that could get you either dead or imprisioned? Can you elect not to host content? For example, in china, you have a situation where you can be materially affected by political content. https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/blog/2015/10/in-china-... Or what if you happen to live in a country hostile to LGBT content, like russia or Zimbabwe, where it may be dangerous to host such content?
Re:An Apple ISA is coming on Wednesday September 09, 2015 @03:41AM (#10190230)
This seems a bit like click bait. It holds no substantial information. They might as well have summed up the article with, One day, apple will make their own processor. That's all it says.
Has the problem with organic contamination been resolved one way or another? I remember reading that it can be hazardous to fish?

Tell that to the people of iraq.
