Re:Ask HN: Can we please limit the AI news flood? on Friday September 18, 2026 @08:29AM (#49753438)
NO!!! Please post more and more and more AI news till the bubble burst and the DCs etc. collapsed!!!

At least then we'll be able to go back to decent prices etc.

Ask HN: IPv6 capable transactional email senders?

Preferably also PostgreSQL, but currently I get answers like "No reliable IPv6 email sending to the big names" and "IPv6 not supported for receiving".The reason that I'm on this discourse, is that I'm busy deploying IPv6 only hosts, and Mailgun for one doesn't have an IPv6 SMTP only IPv4 ;( and the others I've found either way too expensive or also not IPv6 capable, so I started looking at roll...

YEah... know the feelings... and basically started my own thing... now a "business owner" not dependent on people... but Trusting God!
The biggest reasons I read here for SaaS/subscription are "updates"

ie. "We shipped early something with loads of bugs we intend to fix as you pay us" vs the model of "We make sure things work first time bug free" of days gone past... but then yeah... things changed and become too complex

Must have been DNS... when they did the deployment run and the necessary code was pulled and the DNS failed and then the wrong code got compiled...</sarcasm>

that they don't even do staged/A-B pushes was also <mind-blown-away>

But the most.... ironical was: https://www.theregister.com/2024/07/18/security_review_failu...

Re:Ask HN: Disillusioned after AI? on Friday May 17, 2024 @07:30AM (#40388726)
It's NOT AI, it is what we called it "Expert Systems" way back in the 90s

all LLMs are good at doing that type of pattern matching and assistance.

Fishing tackle - much easier to go fishing than to navigate today's stacks and interfaces.
Re:Ask HN: What's the Best Book on Religion on Sunday May 28, 2023 @04:42PM (#36107594)
The Bible (preferably decent literal translations like ESV/NASB/NKJV instead of "dynamic" translations like the NIV/GoodNews/TLT/etc.)

PS: there is a good difference between religion and true Christianity, which involves relationship, not religion/religious behavior

just don't use passwords :)

using decent cryptography correctly, you've just made the problem nearly untractable compared to brute force passwords (which also should be doing things like delays etc.)

Please get the terminology correct: It's called LOADSHEDDING

We in South Africa are used to that term for the past 8+years - phrase/term coined by Eskom!

Mendix ?? They are expensive onsite, but I've seen projects build in shorter time than what normal devs expect - that way saving money for clients
Re:AT&T Fiber in the SF Bay Area is flipping bits on Tuesday December 08, 2020 @02:26AM (#25342794)

Until Cisco (as well as Juniper/AltoPalo/FortiNet/CheckPoint/etc.) implements WG, IPsec will stay with us ;(

I can't deploy WG before that haven't happened... thus time to get WG into RFCs!!!

So, lets talk numbers:

Let's assume we have 100W (typically 12V) solar panels in ~1m Square space. How many litres of alcohol/syntfuel will it generate during an (expected) 8hours of 100% power capacity in a day?

Re:Ask HN: Why did delicious.com fail? on Friday October 20, 2017 @11:24AM (#15516491)
Aren't Slashdot & sourceforge owned by the same owners at present? which also owns and frozen freshmeat (that was later renamed freecode or something)
My grand dad quoted a "mentor" about stocks:

It's a sorry game! - You're sorry you buy - You are sorry you did NOT buy - You're sorry you sold - You are sorry you did NOT sell it!
