Or less than Minecraft (2B)
The radio firmware could be executed on different CPU than the Android kernel and communicate with a standard protocol ?
Re:PinePhone – Beta Edition Linux SmartPhone Preorder on Wednesday March 24, 2021 @01:35PM (#26570421)
Some reasons why non-technical folks might be interested in the Pinephone:

1) avoid the privacy issues of Android & iOS 2) have the confidence that as long as their hardware work, they will have updates 3) buy from a brand that will allow you (or a third party) to fix your hardware (Pine64 sells you spare parts, and at reasonable prices!) 4) have an user-replaceable battery 5) have an affordable smartphone (I know, there are 30$ android phones but they tick none of the above points)

The points 2 to 4 will interest an increasing number of people this century, imo

I just tested: Firefox is able to play reasonably well a Youtube video at 720p 25fps.

Well, it is easier to place all the components in a bigger phone :)

I too prefer small screens, but I bought a Pinephone anyway to support the effort and help testing.

Typed from Firefox on my Pinephone Braveheart running Mobian (works fine for me).

Alma (co-op) | Software Engineers | Grenoble, French Alps, France | Onsite | Full-time | language: French

Alma was founded 41 years ago as an operation research company working on sheet nesting for CAM (have a look at the demo of our saas offer: https://demo.powernestlib.com/ ). Over the years Alma has been diversifying into other areas such as sheet cutting, 3D robots programming (e.g. for welding), IT services and health-care: https://www.alma.fr/en/

Alma is a cooperative: a new employee becomes an associate one year after joining. All shareholders are employees and at the shareholder meeting each associate has 1 vote (regardless of their seniority/capital).

You must speak French or be willing to learn it: English would be ok for technical discussions but less practical for coffe-break discussions, shareholders meetings, etc. We may be able to help for visas. Our offers (in French): https://recrutement.alma.fr/listeoffre.asp Please use this page to candidate to an offer, or contact rh AT alma.fr and mention that you are coming from HN.

Unless the apocalypse is due to a solar flare similar to the Carrington event, which could destroy a lot of computers.

I think the task of propagating such information could suit well the Church of Reality: http://www.churchofreality.org/wisdom/welcome_home/

I really like matplotlib: while it is not intuitive and the documentation is sometimes lacking, there are a lot of examples online and stackoverflow answers all my questions.

That said I may use matplotlib much less than you do (I used it a lot when I was a student, now maybe 6 times a year).

Re:Turn any camera into a webcam with a $13 USB/HDMI video card on Thursday December 31, 2020 @01:43PM (#25595634)
What is the advantage of a mirrorless camera in the webcam use case ?
Even if the app was perfect, I would not use it (less suported platforms, waste space, gathers more data, etc).
But would solar price be the same if the world global energy mix used no fossil fuel ? My belief is no, not at all, unless we used nuclear which can give an energy density similar to fossil fuels. But I have no research data to back this claim.
We also need to launch war-like economies to get our green houses gases emission close to zero, asap!
Re:Raspberry Pi 400 Desktop PC on Wednesday November 04, 2020 @02:26PM (#24992200)
If one of the usb port allow OTG someone can hack a driver to turn the 400 into a keyboard (albeit a very bloated one as it would be running a full OS!).
This button could easily be added by a third party protection case using the GPIO that is available on the pogopins at the back of the phone.
Any idea why they do not simply publish safer cryptographic control sums for these downloads ?
And the recipes to build the hardware required to run the program.
Re:Deno will stop using TypeScript on Sunday June 21, 2020 @01:39PM (#23593647)
If compilation times are a problem with typescript I do not see how Rust will help.
Re:ULX3S: Hackable FPGA that runs Linux on RISC-V on Sunday June 14, 2020 @03:54AM (#23515872)
And DOS, NES, Amiga, Apple I, Apple II, Z80 ! I am new to FPGAs so it is a bit difficult to know what to expect from a given number of LUTs, but you can compare between models: the big version of ECP5 in ULX3S has 85k LUTs while the previous well open-source supported FPGA (iCE40) had only up to 7.7 k LUTs, so more than a 10x jump :)
Re:ULX3S: Hackable FPGA that runs Linux on RISC-V on Saturday June 13, 2020 @06:12PM (#23513261)
Also newsworthy: Lattice drops recent EULA clause forbidding fpga bitstream reverse engineering https://hackaday.com/2020/06/06/lattice-drops-eula-clause-fo... therefore 2020 could be a milestone for open FPGA toolchains!
