On a related note, I'd like to give a shout-out to NeHe (Neon Helium) for his brilliant OpenGL tutorials back in the 90s.
I, and I suspect many others, benefited immensely from him lessons.
I'm sure there are others here that are experts on this topic, but my 2 cents on this is that Broadcom specialise in custom / specialised AI chips, and their collaboration with Google to manufacture the TPUs is a pretty solid revenue moat over the next several years.
> In the last eight weeks, I have counted 361 queens. The meagre three traps might sound irrelevant in the face of the growing continental scale of the problem, and perhaps they are. However, a mature hornet nest in autumn can have 6,000 individuals, so potentially over two million fewer hornets will be patrolling our local landscape come autumn.
In case anyone is wondering about the number.
What an odd post to make the front page of HN.
This needs to be the top comment because the current title is horribly misleading.
> What does “take full responsibility” mean in the present context?
Aside from Pete's reply (see adjacent comment), I'd add that him taking full responsibility is also his way of saying his post was nobody else's fault but his.
In other words it's less about forfeiting assets and descendant peonage, and more about saying "the buck stops with me".
At least that's my read of his sentiment. Pete can expand if need be.
Whilst I appreciate the impact of AI and its long-term implications for humanity as we know it, I am getting kinda tired of seeing so many AI-related headlines here on HN. Perhaps it's just me, but I feel like every day the front page is filled with mostly LLM-related announcements.
> so that we can't scrap Facebook
Whilst I assume you meant to say “scrape”, I can’t help but appreciate the poetry of that typo.

I hate that they enable stuff by default. Why not just tell me about it, and let me opt in if I want to?Excerpt from the email:“The Workspace Intelligence settings for Google Tasks will be enabled (ON) by default for all users in your organization.”
TIL! Absolute game changer.
Thank you kind stranger.
What I would humbly argue is what it’s (primarily) always been about:
Building relationships.
That site is awesome, thank you!
> we use the apparent rate of mug deterioration to estimate the proton supply required by a simplified corrosion model
Damn I love HN.
Sincere congrats to the Verda team :-)
Can someone please help me understand what their competitive advantage is, versus the likes of AWS / Azure et al, who are also available in the EU.
I love a good underdog story, but I'm not understanding the economics of it.
Fair point.
I'm on vanilla Ubuntu 22.04 but have also tried vanilla 24.04, with an Nvidia card.
That said, I thought steamdeck was just the handheld device - not sure if this would help with my Ubuntu situation - but I don't know enough about steamdeck so perhaps I am misinterpreting your comment.
Thanks either way.
Albion Online looks interesting, thanks, will check it out.

Has anyone here got it to reliably work? Please let me know how?So many different guides / tutorials online, but sadly every one I try comes up short in some way.I really don’t want to have to dual boot Windows.Kinda hoping there’s an HNer that figured out.Thanks.
It was the late 90s, my very first day at a new school, I was asked to introduce myself at the front of the class, I mentioned I like computers, one guy at the back of the class blurts out “En Taro Adun” and without skipping a beat I replied “J’tokoh zohl”, and we instantly became best friends.
Thanks once again. You’ve totally improved my night time HN routine. My little one is asleep next to me as I type this :-)
Made me think of “Brainscan”, awesome sci-fi from the 90s.

For the fellow parents, some fun context: My toddler is asleep on me, and this light is blinding.
I don't know much about robotics engineering, so I just wanted to give kudos to the Robocurve team on this write-up.
Even for an absolute robotics newbie such as myself, the article was interesting to read, and easy to understand. Plus it was straight to the point, with no unnecessary waffle.
Just a pleasure all round. Well done Robocurve.
> He sees these scientists as strong men, willing to wrestle with the tragedy of existence by increasing the amount of happiness in the world. That struggle makes them optimists.
Loved that.

Article is behind a paywall for me.
Odd that it’s on HN front page :-/
My OCed DX4 got around 15fps, but I agree my memory of what was deemed “playable” back then probably wouldn’t stand today.
