Re:Did Windows 10 slow down with each feature update? on Tuesday June 22, 2021 @11:52AM (#27593243)
Glad to know it's windows and not my fault. My boot time went from 15 seconds to 30-45 now. I used to be able to reboot my computer and by the time I'd gotten a drink or tied my shoe it would be back to desktop. Beautiful. Now it's slow as hell.

Pay to beta test Amazon's stadia ripoff? No thank you.
They broke the TOS on purpose and are now crying about that Apple actually held the line. I think Apple is way overpriced too, but when you go into their ecosystem and profit on it - you have to play by the rules. If you break the rules, you get removed. I would expect the same treatment on any app store.
Re:Beta users of Starlink get downloads of 11 to 60 Mbps on Friday August 14, 2020 @05:18PM (#24163419)
That's great. The pings not even that bad..
Re:What is fsck up to now? on Wednesday March 18, 2020 @09:18PM (#22623358)
Did he ever get to fsck ? Or did it just hang the entire time ?
Just FYI, you have excellent memory. Most users can't remember their 6-8 character alphanumeric.....
Re:Alibaba to Stop Sales of E-Cigarettes to U.S. Buyers on Wednesday October 09, 2019 @10:09PM (#21210219)
It's both, actually. People have been counterfeiting Juul pods and they have the bad chemicals in them as well. Pretty nasty problem actually.
Re:New Mac Pro Tech Specs on Friday September 27, 2019 @03:40PM (#21095560)
I wish Apple would just sell me the damn OS and let me install it on whatever hardware I want.
Re:Psychological Effects of a 1-Month Meditation Retreat on Sunday September 22, 2019 @04:07PM (#21043613)
20 person study of people who already practice meditation is pretty much worthless.
Re:Woman treated by doctors after her blood turned blue on Sunday September 22, 2019 @04:05PM (#21043597)
Is it bad to have blue blood ? I think it could be kind of novel if it didn't have any nasty side effects.

The calendar ? It's not really a 'clock app' but lets you setup timers and popup notifications. You're right it should be baked in with the system clock.
Why is a backup system so hard for people (especially businesses) to understand????
A list of the websites hosting this stuff would have been nice....
They should have some option if voice recognition fails like 'Would you like to send this diagnostic voice memo to apple to further improve the user experience ?' that way you'd have a choice if for some reason you were discussing confidential information, I'd send it in 99% of the time. Most user leave that diagnostic shit on by default.
You could easily solve this problem by converting a small portion of major parks into homelessness crisis centers. Somewhere for people to sleep safely, with facilities, and resources for reintegration. Everyone blames the homeless though, they will rarely vote to actually help them but seem content to assuage their guilt by dropping a dollar into the can or praying for them. As if that helps.
Touchscreens seem like it was overly ambitious to implement in the first place. Not to mention prone to attack by an EMP, or even literal sticky fingers (heh) but I bet a lot of other stuff on the ships are too. Navy may bumble around a tiny bit but I really like my GPS.
Re:How to download and use the DEA pain pills database on Friday July 19, 2019 @11:13PM (#20483974)
More people forced into the black market, good job guys. I feel bad for people who get addicted but also feel personal responsibility and choice should be paramount. You should be able to decide for yourself.
Amazon can eat that loss without batting an eye. If it's resellers, etc, I'm not sure how the situation would be remedied. I think cancelling the orders would be fair, because some small camera shop can't be expected to eat the same losses as the #2 multinational retailer. While I wish I had gotten one of those cameras, as 10kUSD would completely change my life, I can understand both sides I think...

If it was Amazon it would be the best PR for the next prime day you could think of. People will be scouring the site for these kind of deals next year.

The article says "At least 36 people were injured, 10 of them seriously." but doesn't mention deaths anywhere. I really hope the title is wrong and this is just some kind of horrible mistake. That's so many good people to have died for one selfish asshole. Can anyone confirm/deny ?
Minimum wage workers can't afford a 1 bedroom apartment or studio where I live.
Why don't these people just buy one of those power efficient i3's and throw it in an old PC case ? Seems like a lot more power and flexibility compared to using Rock64's. My 'nas' is just a headless linux computer with a bunch of drives in there. My only complaint is that 6 HDD ports aren't enough. It can stream HD video to multiple devices at the same time no problem which I feel like would choke if you tried it on the Rock64.
Since no company is totally secure, of course you should be concerned. I would never use a cloud based system even if it is more convenient. I'll stick with a local keepass backups thankyouverymuch. Though I suppose if I was a real target I would trust LastPass before my own security.
Re:Crystal Meth Is Spreading on Friday April 05, 2019 @10:57PM (#19588903)
You're also smart and disciplined, key ingredients that most drug addicts are missing. Meth is absolutely terrible, no arguments there, but what ever happened to personal liberty ? I don't need the government telling me what to do...

(that made it sound like I use meth, I do not.)

You can thank prohibition and private prisons.
I've been on Xaxax 9 years, without it, I would be dead. I only take it infrequently though (10-15 days a month ?) so I can't comment on everyday usage and increasing tolerance. It does bother me quite a bit that my doctor only lets me be a functional human being approximately half the month, but, I'll take what little solace I can get. On higher regular (everyday) dosages seizure and even possibly death is a real possibility if you go into withdrawal, so I suppose I see where people are coming from. It doesn't make me feel any better the rest of the month though....

I suppose that's why I am so interested in these one and done kind of drugs, who wants to take a pill every day just to feel normal ? Nobody. I think the new study of these psychedelics (mdma therapy, psilocybin (especially), ketamine, dmt and their derivatives) really needs to be looked into so people can break the chains of the other medication they are on and live full happy lives.

Re:Ketamine: From Party Drug to Prescription Medicine on Monday March 18, 2019 @11:17PM (#19427800)
You're correct, typo.
Re:Ketamine: From Party Drug to Prescription Medicine on Monday March 18, 2019 @05:05PM (#19425303)
This is something that I'd try if it wasn't cost prohibited. But no, I'm stuck on benzos forever. At least they are cheap and they work OK I suppose.
Thank god. Now this is a good investment. They should be getting 10x that budget though.
