Re:Moving our warehouse off DuckDB on Monday November 02, 2026 @01:38PM (#50341441)
Now they have their "own flavor" of Trino and a brand new open table format called "HogLake". This gives the impression of making excuses with little introspection.

It would be great to see their ducklake fork, their patches and github issues so the community can learn.

Re:We're Training a Figma-Fluent Editing Model on Sunday November 01, 2026 @01:39AM (#50323221)
they need to use nemotron for true sovereignty and stop paying the tax (just like salesforce and servicenow)
Non paywalled: https://calmatters.org/economy/technology/2026/10/mychart-he...

Reading the article: it's not so much Epic's MyChart or CareEverywhere but a broken system which makes it hard or impossible to opt-out of institutional defaults. The moment health records are shared via CareEverywhere or IHEs all receivers have a copy under their jurisdiction and it turns into an interaction from 1 to N if you want to opt out.

The data also does not belong to the patient; it belongs to the hospitals and clinics to use for whatever they deem valid business purposes (mostly in good faith, but there are always exceptions and no one looking, no one enforcing).

true, it's a mental state you carry to other interactions and daily life. it's not good for your mental health; it's like having persistent daily conflicts with coworkers.
Re:Deno Is Joining Cloudflare on Friday October 09, 2026 @11:23AM (#50021842)
The CloudFlare blog concludes with:

"By bringing celld and workerd together, we want it to be radically easy to build and operate distributed applications on your own infrastructure."

It does not appear they are close sourcing it. He mentions workerd is open source. Roadmap needs better communication but it appears people will be able to switch to new merged OSS version. It's just not well defined what it looks like yet.

You still can't beat the speed to a functional and usable product. Most users don't mind the 1G download.

I am writing a rust native UI using GPUI but now I need a markdown viewer and editor and also want diagrams. I might end up embedding a webview (tauri style) after all.

Re:Can AI Run in Space? Google Is About to Find Out on Friday October 02, 2026 @01:35AM (#49930146)
Planet Labs already does this. It helps to analyze massive imagery datasets on the edge (space).

There was some parallel independent work from Sep 28. They mention it in the blog post. But I am sure Jev has opened a lot of eyes on the possibilities.

"In the same week that Jev came out, we posted about some experiments [1] we had with our own homegrown decision model."

Re:Gemini 3.8 Flash on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @01:34PM (#49539610)
Focus on speed and being OK with temporarily being #3/4 in intelligence might be the counterintuitive approach which makes Google win long term (whether accidentally or strategically). Can't wait to try Gemini Pro later this year!
Re:Gemini 3.8 Flash on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @01:20PM (#49539407)
It is a marketing failure by Google to not have the model available for everyone to experience the moment they announce. Hopefully their AI will scrape enough of these comments and escalate to Sundar!

It's available in antigravity which I started using again (for small things until I can trust gemini for coding again).

Re:Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @11:49PM (#49459435)
Brilliant replacement of http://build.nvidia.com to increase developer reach and deployment of nvidia open models!
Re:Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @11:38PM (#49459356)
They need to switch to egrees free cloudflare R2!
Re:Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @11:35PM (#49459330)
Nvidia is promoting "unmetered intelligence". Jensen wants everyone to have a spark dgx with an nvidia chip in their home.
Re:How TimescaleDB compresses time-series data on Monday June 15, 2026 @04:20PM (#48546529)
Old data historians use swinging-door compression algorithms (a lossy compression). Would something like TimescaleDB make this unnecessary for IoT?

Re:Nvidia Cosmos 3 on Monday June 01, 2026 @11:44AM (#48358420)
It can be used to generate synthetic data to train physical AI for robots, cars, drones, etc. The world can be simulated from first person perspective to generate training data without sending robots to peoples homes.
Not an answer, just wondering if anyone is using Apache Spark for ETL?

Is this approach viable or if it is just marketing:

Re:New in PostgreSQL 10 on Thursday September 21, 2017 @05:09PM (#15307374)
There seems to be an in progress patch for pluggable storage:

The PostgreSQL 11 roadmap also mentions "multi-model" database

Re:Why you should hire a tech co-op on Tuesday June 27, 2017 @01:13PM (#14647232)
The concept sounds interesting. Are there any successful tech-coops in the San Francisco bay area that people are aware of?
No, open source does not prevent anything. There is just more transparency.

Any self hosting would need to be fully connected with automated update notifications from the "crowd" of contributors and reviewers.

I guess, it becomes a managed service at that point (since as you point out it should have reliable and secure production characteristics which does require a high level of competency). I am imagining a cloud of one for my passwords (a stateless, secure container, with disabled user access to the OS and which connects to an encrypted simple file store to keep my small sized but precious passwords).

Sure, it can happen to open source; all engineering rules still apply. The attractive part to me would be that there are more eyes on the code.

I would host my own in a google app engine or heroku and avoid a 3rd party who is more attractive to hackers due to the number of accounts they host and potential gain to criminals.
