The beginning of the video made me really thirsty!
When I worked as a teaching assistant at my university, we had a mix of knowledge-based questions to which you had to research the correct answers, as well as some questions you had to brainstorm and argue your decision. We didn't grade correct answers, just looked over them to see if the student engaged with the question. In my opinion, those were really easy points to get, especially considering it was one of the hardest courses in the whole study program, but there still were many students who skipped the homework. Now, I've never been able to prove causation (wouldn't even know how), but it turns out that students who solved the homework questions also did well on the exams, and those who seemed to have used some AI chat for the questions did not. And even me telling my students exactly this did not affect the outcome of semester after semester. I believe that lots of guys were just there for the degree and looking to coast by with minimal effort, but for me it always seemed like a big waste of time to go to a university if you're not even going to try to learn something. The first few semesters, I was really frustrated avout this, but as the old saying goes: You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink.
Wasn't recently shown that after an attack on a Russian data center, the amount of right-wing supporting tweets went down by a large amount? Which is in my opinion a big supporting factor in your assessment
this ai-ai interaction could have been a deterministic API
Mentalities like these are the reason "Software Engineering" is laughed at by actual physical Engineers. Do you want your discipline being taken seriously? Don't be a doormat, take responsibility for your actions!
I have made a similar observation, maybe even stronger: In Lower Austria, I speak the dialect, but only 50km away in Vienna, people speak in more of a "standard German" way, I'm guessing due to the large influx of German migrants and because the dialect is considered lower-class (by the younger generations especially, who, probably due to social media, speak very Germany-esque) and I've noticed I myself also switch to a "standard German" type dialect.

Re:Ask HN: What're You Reading? on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @05:18AM (#49906359)
I've heard a recommendation that Guards, Guards! is one of the easiest books to enter the Discworld universe, although I haven't had the chance to read it yet.

Interesting article, thanks for sharing! Experiencing "a volta" is something I've felt often while reading, but it is always refreshing to see someone both have the awareness of this phenomenon and put a name to it.

I feel like I'm starting to have an allergic reaction to the AI writing style. I can no longer unsee it, albeit I can't exactly pinpoint what about the text triggers this guttal reaction.

2 Criticisms:

- On mobile, it's quite hard to hit the X to close an element description. With my specific screen size, I always end up opening Darmstadtium.

- The Element quiz hints consistently give away the answer in the penultimate or final clue.

Other than that, fun project! Thanks for sharing

I guess they're very much related, given that they're both tools to flash images to an esp32. But from checking the repo, this seems to be an effort by the tinygo people to extend the embedded go ecosystem.

For me, the cow was just below the bottom of the screen, which caused me to first wonder what the heck and then get great comic relief after scrolling down!

I can't believe this things even have microphones in them! That's a crazy amount of tech just to end up as e-waste.

Isn't it the other way round? We did and still do chroma subsampling _because_ we don't see that much of a difference?
I remembered a course called "Learn Go through testing" that looks intriguing and also for beginners.
I've been learning Go for about 4-6 months. So far I've been really enjoying the language. I'll suggest to you to work through the go tour in the beginning, then gobyexample is a great reference resource. I've also heard good things about the book "100 Go mistakes" which is for advanced users. Obviously, Go has its own quirks but if you can enjoy them and make the language work for you, it's really fun!

I like the tldr pages to learn the most common features and use cases of new command line tools! I think it's great, albeit, a bit slow sometimes
I know very little about surfing, can I ask why it is so dangerous?
oh yeah that's much smarter than what I suggested
