Re:State law: You can't say bad things about a business on Wednesday February 03, 2016 @11:33AM (#11027384)
Maybe this law could protect lawyers, like those exposed on 60 minutes this week, from further sting operations on their money laundering business.

Some might call them zygotes.
Sounds like a good pretext for putting anyone politically inexpedient into prison.

Re:Stop-And-Seize Turns Police into Self-Funding Gangs on Friday November 13, 2015 @11:34AM (#10560697)
I was arrested while hiking and acquitted because I did nothing wrong. But the police never returned my expensive sun glasses or my expensive optical water purifier. "We don't have them."
Re:The New Intolerance of Student Activism on Monday November 09, 2015 @04:08PM (#10535862)
If the students articulated a reasoned response instead of acting out an emotional catastrophe; they would be ignored. The real issue is the 'viral promo' culture which encourages ridiculousness and outrage.
Re:A Student Loan System Stacked Against the Borrower on Sunday October 11, 2015 @07:28PM (#10371617)
Laws preventing bankruptcy on student loans is tantamount to indentured servitude imho; ergo a violation of Thirteenth Amendment. See Debt Bondage.

Re:Understanding Hitler’s Anti-Semitism on Sunday September 13, 2015 @04:49AM (#10210746)
The idea that a 'nationalism' with particular ethical values in conflict with Judaism, like Catholicism has moral and ethical values which conflict with Judaism, as a source of anti-semitism was refuted and replaced with Darwinism versus Judaism and the notion that the absence of ethical value was directly opposed to ethical value.
Re:It’s expensive to be poor on Tuesday September 08, 2015 @05:21AM (#10184711)
Poor people often have a smaller proportion of income available for their 401k too.
Re:The Effects of Computer Programming on the Brain (2012) on Sunday September 06, 2015 @09:21AM (#10177546)
What is the neurological explanation for the excessive desire to find the 'optimal' algorithm, language, database ... to solve a problem rather than just solve the problem. Do we just answer 'dopamine' to any question involving behaviour motivation or could seratonin be at play? Anxiety about work product solution not being as good as it could is perhaps different than 'yay it works without an error!'
Who does it apply to then?

Re:What If Students Could Fire Their Professors? on Monday April 27, 2015 @09:29AM (#9446090)
I'm an abrasive type teacher who gets polarized response distributions. Once when I substituted for the most highly rated professor at a local cc in my subject, I received a most memorable compliment: 'Finally, a real teacher.' ... I quit teaching after one too many interventions from administration and parents about crying kids who could not possibly make less than an A.
