I'm the developer of NeoBox (https://neo-box.app). It's a Neo Geo emulator frontend for Mac + iPhone + iPad as one universal app.I'm using Rupert Carmichael's amazing Geolith library https://gitlab.com/jgemu/geolith for the actual emulation. I then have a Metal-backed rendering pipeline.Recent versions where I was porting NeoBox for iPhone and testing on my iPhone 15 Pro, I noticed it getting...

DuckDB has been my swiss-army knife for a while now. I have a special place in my heart for polished native macOS apps. My somewhat outsized and exaggerated dislike for electron/webkit based has lead me toil away on several native macOS apps on my own...mostly to not much profit :)I wanted to build a nice DuckDB client. Though I usually reach for TablePlus, my favorite multi-db client on Macs,...
wow that looks super polished!
Let’s give thanks to all those meta engineers who have been ripped for my heir teams (while sitting right by them) working on manually tagging data. I guess the morale dip paid off in some way? I wish you all well and hope you find some happiness … IYKYK
I'm curious... is anyone using DeepSeek V4 Flash from HugginFace? Is the cost around the same as directly form DeepSeek or from Openrouter?
Let's be real
* remember the 90s internet aesthetic? geocities anyone? GIFs everywhere?
* how about the Flat Design aesthetic?
* How about the Twitter Bootstrap aesthetic?
... This too will pass ...

I am 90's kid. And NeGeo console was something I always longed for and only ever saw ONE person ever owning! For those who are following...there's a new NeGeo AES console coming out later in the year!I got excited and wanted to remember playing OG SNK games that I loved (Super Sidekicks, Metal Slug, Art of Fighting).I first reached for the amazing OpenEmu native macOS emulator fronted, but found...
My goto these days is TablePlus
https://tableplus.com. Native desktop client (no electron). UI is pretty standard, polished, and IMHO great. Supports PG really well (amongst other RDBMSes and some NoSQL dbs).
Yes it's not open source but its free version is still great.
yeah I totally turned all of those off...way too noisy :)
On the noisy NodeJS auto-instrumentation, it is indeed very noisy out of the box. Myself along with a bunch of other ppl finally got the project to allow you to select the instrumentations via configuration. Saves having to create your own tracer.ts/js file.
Here's the PR that got merged earlier in the year: https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-js-contrib/p...
The env var config is `OTEL_NODE_ENABLED_INSTRUMENTATIONS`
Anyways, love Opentelemetry success stories. Been working hard on it at my current company and yielding fruits already :)
A while ago I wrote jlq, a utility explicitly querying/filtering jsonl/json log files. It’s powered by SQLite. Nice advantage is it can persist results to a sqlite database for later inspection or to pass around. Hope it helps someone :)

Ah cool! Somewhat related I built a json log query tool recently using rust and SQLite. Didn’t build the server part of it

Hi all! It's been a while since I posted something. Wrote this back in November to scratch an itch regarding tailing logs locally for multiple services.I know we all love jq...but I'm quite comfortable with SQLite and SQL so just wanted to use that instead.Published my first Rust crate today! My first public Rust project so be gentle :) . Hope you enjoy...
This is great! I built a native. macOS client that I actually sold in the AppStore a while ago. It did everything was native except rendering of the article but I was just using plain web view for that part. The pain was keeping but synced with changes on HN. I still have a personal build that I use on a daily basis.
I still have the landing page up which warning, looks awful on mobile https://mackernews.com/
But congrats! I stopped selling my client and it’s starting to show age for my personal use too. Will check this out. Do you have voting and commenting working? That’s one thing I miss the most that stopped working on my client.
really curious to see your updated analysis :)
Very cool! I made a native macOS desktop client . It does use a web view to render the article but the article list, comments, voting, commencing, login interactions are all native .

This is a REALLY big deal. I was born and raised there. Glad to see some progress.
I also made native macOS HN client app called MackerNews. It renders the article in a web view (readable if possible) but everything else is native. Btw its a client, you can login, vote, comment, etc :)

Shameless plug but check out mackernews.com for a Mac app :)
You should revisit the assumption that the travel ban would be effective at all. Saudi Arabia isnt on that list. Think about that for a sec. Of course we know why, because there are other national self interests involved. Of course every government has had its share of hypocracy clearly aligned with the nations self interest. Just call it like it is and don't be naive. Calling for repealing sanctions on Cuba because of 'political prisoners' should make one chuckle when looking st Saudi Arabia is concerned .
Are you serious? US has been ther for over a decade now. One of the US goals is to promote democracy and education of women to detract from taliban ways which indeed help the US perogative, rightfully so IMHO. Even if you agree with the 'travel ban', it seems completely counter productive, careless, disrespectful, and destructive for the state department (or other powers that be) to not handle such scenarios with care and elegance. But I guess that's bureaucracy for you. Exactly one of the reasons why some were opposed to the ban to being with.
Couldn't agree more! The GORUCO conference is amazing! I've had the wonderful opportunity of speaking there once and volunteering a few time too. It was also where I was first introduced to a dear friend that would go on to become an amazing co-founder of our funded startup (now defunct :) ). Its a great community, great format, you won't regret it!
