Money is not lost, it merely changes hands.
It depends. In most games, you kill NPCs in self-defense or because the game specifically asks you to in order to make progress in the story. If you keep killing non-threatening NPCs only because simulated violence against innocent people gives you pleasure, there is a chance that you are a disturbed individual who needs help.
Re:OpenAI withdraws three mathematical results on Thursday October 08, 2026 @05:13AM (#50003568)
But that exactly how human mathematicians do things. They upload their research to preprint services like arXiv as they await it to be peer reviewed and accepted into a journal. Why is it okay for mathematicians to publish preprint papers, but when OpenAI does it, it's irresponsible?
Re:We are going to kill "unalive" on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @06:47AM (#49976667)
'committing suicide' is an action person takes, 'death by suicide' is the result of said action.
Re:Ogre Battle 64 Recompiled Project at 99.05% on Sunday September 20, 2026 @06:17PM (#49780666)
What is the legal status of recompilation projects like these? Greyer or less grey than emulators?
Re:Spain Orders Blocks on Archive.today and Its Mirrors on Sunday September 20, 2026 @05:38AM (#49774168)
Personally, I welcome this. Archive.today has been blocking my country from using the site for years and for no good reason. Maybe if enough countries block the site, someone more reasonable will build an alternative.
Re:Navier-Stokes – Tristan Buckmaster [pdf] on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @02:47AM (#49606408)
Humans bringing pointless drama to everything they touch.
Am I the only one who thinks desecrating anyone's tomb is morally wrong?
The other side said the same thing when the J6 rioters were sentenced. Likewise, these people will also get pardoned in a couple of years, so it's mostly symbolic.
Thanks, saved me a click.
Re:Resident Evil Requiem with Denuvo DRM Cracked on Friday April 10, 2026 @01:15AM (#47713914)
No, there have been a bunch of new cracks in the recent months by the same author who made this crack. RE9 is the first time they've cracked a game that just very recently came out. This means that any upcoming games will likely be cracked quickly as well, unless the Denuvo developers make some big changes in how their protection works.
Re:US Customs destroys rare floppy disk on Friday February 27, 2026 @09:35AM (#47180942)
To be fair, it was an old pornographic game from Japan that features characters who are still minors. The customs agents should probably have simply disposed of it instead of sending it forward.
Re:First Proof on Saturday February 07, 2026 @10:47AM (#46924759)
February 13th is a pretty close deadline. They should at least have given a month.
Re:What Is Ruliology? on Saturday February 07, 2026 @04:20AM (#46922490)
It's starting to sound an awful lot like a Ruligion.
Re:Gemini 3 Pro Model Card on Tuesday November 18, 2025 @07:29AM (#45964712)
This may just be bad recollection from my part, but hasn't Google reported that their search business is right now the most profitable it has ever been?
Re:Why Can't Transformers Learn Multiplication? on Saturday October 25, 2025 @02:20PM (#45705927)
Fixing the seed wouldn't necessarily make LLMs deterministic. LLMs do lots of computation in parallel and the order in which these computations are performed is often indeterministic and can lead to different final results.
Re:A joint statement from OpenAI and Microsoft on Thursday September 11, 2025 @06:31PM (#45216775)
Who caved?
Re:I used to know how to write in Japanese on Friday August 15, 2025 @10:02AM (#44912558)
It's Kinugawa, and Akihabara is written as 秋葉原.
Re:Simon Tatham's Portable Puzzle Collection on Saturday July 26, 2025 @04:43AM (#44692499)
For human-generated logic puzzles that you can solve in your browser, I can recommend the following site:

Quoting Judge Alsup from his recent ruling in Bartz v. Anthropic.

> Instead, Authors contend generically that training LLMs will result in an explosion of works competing with their works — such as by creating alternative summaries of factual events, alternative examples of compelling writing about fictional events, and so on. This order assumes that is so (Opp. 22–23 (citing, e.g., Opp. Exh. 38)). But Authors’ complaint is no different than it would be if they complained that training schoolchildren to write well would result in an explosion of competing works. This is not the kind of competitive or creative displacement that concerns the Copyright Act. The Act seeks to advance original works of authorship, not to protect authors against competition.

Another great source is https://imabi.org/
Re:The launch of ChatGPT polluted the world forever on Sunday June 15, 2025 @07:21AM (#44281734)
LLMs don't really need more training data than they already have. They just need to start using it more efficiently.
propakistani.pk doesn't sound like an impartial source.
Re:The End of Weather Forecasting on Tuesday March 04, 2025 @03:10AM (#43251777)
Farmers won't stop getting forecasts. They simply get their forecasts from someone other than NOAA.
Re:Ask HN: Best stack for building a desktop app? on Thursday May 02, 2024 @04:01PM (#40240789)
There is no source since it's not true. The product manager of Flutter/Dart said on Twitter that there was no change in team size, only some DevOps roles moving to other (likely cheaper) locations.
Re:React Native for Windows and Mac on Tuesday May 12, 2020 @07:41PM (#23161488)
People love to say this but rarely provide concrete examples. Google has a habit of discontinuing unsuccessful services, not technologies like SDKs or whole programming languages.
Re:Glimpse: A Photo Editor For Everyone on Sunday March 29, 2020 @08:07PM (#22723952)
It's morally wrong to ask donations for someone else's work. I'll reevaluate my opinion once they achieve something original.
It's one thing to have hot reload and another to have it also preserve the whole app state like Dart/Flutter does.
Re:Open-Source Spotify App on Monday December 23, 2019 @10:44PM (#21869666)
Snapchat and Spotify have very different kinds of business models.
