Re:Show HN: (The Only) Tab Suspender for Safari on Friday February 14, 2020 @05:15AM (#22325378)
I believe this is the first Tab Suspender for Safari since the transition to the new Safari App Extension model.

Depending on your tab count and how "heavy" the websites are, you can expect a considerable reduction of memory and CPU usage and indirectly your battery consumption, by automatically suspending the tabs you aren't using.

Some of the options you can configure are:

- Whitelist urls or domains that you do not want to suspend (You can still manually suspend them by using the menu)

- Show a screen shot of the page just before it was suspended

- Detects tabs playing audio and will not suspend them if you don't want it (experimental)

- Detects tabs that contain active forms and will not suspend them if you don't want it

- Optionally, do not suspend tabs if on battery power or no network connections

This extension is inspired by the The Great Suspender for Chrome

The UI and some features still need to be polished a bit and I plan a minor update next week but wanted to show this to the HN community to hopefully get some feedback.

Please let me know what you think.

Thank you

That's actually a pretty neat idea. Just yesterday I spent close to an hour manually taking screenshots, annotating, aligning them, etc. This would have saved me a lot of time

Wasn't this announced already a few months ago?
Looks cool! Is that fully automated or do you manually approve each entry?
Looks really nice!

Seems to work better on Firefox than on Chrome

Re:Lines of code that changed everything on Thursday November 28, 2019 @04:18AM (#21655759)
oh man that brings back memories... I think people nowadays vilify it just because it's cool to bash jQuery but without it, the web wouldn't be where it is now.

You can even turn the lights on, that's quite neat

I guess twitter will not be acquired by google anytime soon
Re:Ask HN: Privacy Badge for Websites? on Wednesday November 27, 2019 @06:01PM (#21653040)
I don’t think the regular user would care much though.

I’m guessing the website would be regularly monitored. What if they implement some VW emissions cheat style to pretend they track less than they really do

Re:Ask HN: What can Firefox do to get you to make the switch? on Wednesday November 27, 2019 @01:04PM (#21650285)
Better browser extension developing / debugging tooling. Or at least something that doesn’t freeze or crash as often as it does now

This is something a browser extension could easily do
Re:Ask HN: Why is Array.from so slow? on Wednesday November 27, 2019 @01:00PM (#21650257)

The same is true in C# if I recall correctly. Not sure if that’s still the case

Op doesn’t seem to have an issue with paying the bills, it looks like he wants more to have something to look for? That’s a dangerously frustrating way of thinking imo as you’ll never be happy or satisfied
Re:Ask HN: Quitting Big Tech, what is it like? on Wednesday November 27, 2019 @12:54PM (#21650196)
What do you usually work on? Since you say you’re bored, can you ask to move to another project?
