"honestlyranked.com"

Even the URL captures the ubiquitous "honestly / genuinely / let me be up front" verbal tick that Claude can't resist. That is, "Rashid" likely couldn't even be bothered to come up with his own website name. I hate it.

Oh please, come on now. Grammar correction (which gets applied to text that you wrote) isn't comparable to LLM text generation. A tool assists a user in a task. LLMs don't assist you in writing: they do it all on their own. There's obviously a continuum here (at what point does a tool become so helpful that it ceases being a tool?), but I think I echo the general consensus.

> in it's current state, it discloses itself to anyone paying attention.

Well, unfortunately, I've still sunk a good bit of time into reading texts that I only realize to be AI-authored part way through. Plus, it's constantly being made harder to discern human-authorship.

Hyper-ultra-processed, yes. But, as others point out in these comments, a food's degree of processing doesn't determine its health value, although those two things are correlated.

Personally, my instincts would favor Huel over fast food, too. I'd be very interested in any study that tested this rigorously. Huel is far from anything "raw," but so long as all the nutritional components are still in there, one has to wonder if it's just as healthy.

I just don't advocate, at least not without prompting; it's too maddening. That I'm vegan often becomes known naturally, and once it's established, people in the know tend to start bringing it up on their own. I hardly ever go into advocacy unprompted. I think this is more effective. Just by being present, you might spark the thoughts that lead someone to changing their mind... :)
> Wrapping others’ knowledge in a black box that may or may not accurately represent that knowledge...

You wrote it well. This aspect irks me, too.

Good lord, why is everything glowing? Why is the header font so goofy? Why is there a big unnecessary "LIVE" label? That last one is such a bad Claude-ism, it evidently can't help itself even when the info being presented has zero reason to NOT be live.
Re:Hister – private, self hosted search engine on Saturday August 22, 2026 @05:13PM (#49403935)
Really? The website, you mean? :( I thought to myself, "what a cute, well designed webpage!" when I saw it. Maybe with time this site will stand out like those Claudeslop ones.

Not to be a party pooper, but even if the author wouldn't themselves describe it as "slop," the term still applies. It isn't really a "collaboration" if the vast majority of the implementation was carried out by one (non-human) party.

Re:Obviously, DOGE Did Not Save Money on Friday August 07, 2026 @02:54PM (#49214798)
Why am I in charge of speaking on behalf of HN? I could certainly be in the minority on this. Must you ensure that every space you enter hold to your exact opinions?
Re:Obviously, DOGE Did Not Save Money on Friday August 07, 2026 @12:45AM (#49205983)
Although it seems to have been a flop in practice, I do appreciate the spirit of making good use of tax dollars. I only wish the program was more carefully guided, since the motive behind it did seem genuine.
Re:Obviously, DOGE Did Not Save Money on Friday August 07, 2026 @12:40AM (#49205957)
So, the U.S. would've had to supply foreign aid for eternity, then? Instead of appreciating the vast sums given by the U.S. and her taxpayers, there's only vitriol for the stream of aid money having been cut off.
Re:I'm 38 and I Can't Support Myself Anymore on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @04:18PM (#49089373)
Because one's value to society doesn't determine their wage (an economic matter) or status (a social matter). The parent comment is right. What you've pointed out is a separate "injustice" of a kind: that we generally under-appreciate others.
Re:I'm 38 and I Can't Support Myself Anymore on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @04:08PM (#49089226)
Yes, it is more productive. Becoming more familiar with the English language and skillfully written prose is good. The notion that modern prose is of lesser quality is widespread.

This comment reads as snarky post-modernism.

Re:America's Big Cities Are Rapidly Losing Kids on Monday July 27, 2026 @12:01PM (#49071500)
I lived in my local big city for a few years. As I did so, and as I regularly traversed its streets and public transport, I many times thought, "ok, maybe suburbanites have a point."

What makes the suburbs and small towns good isn't positive / a presence of pros, but negative / an absence of cons.

Wow, I could keel over any minute...
Re:Fonts In Use – Find out where a font is used on Monday July 27, 2026 @10:58AM (#49070634)
The framing of certain developments. For example,

>A [Trump admin] holding page ... still used Hoefler fonts – the uprightness from the previous [Obama] administration had apparently not abated.

as well as other instances wherein the author's account feels molded to signal the badness of Trump. This is in spite of what is, in my opinion, the more intriguing subtext at this point in the article: that the White House designers had acted purposefully incompetent in their service of the Trump admin (this the author hints at).

The article was otherwise enjoyable.

Re:Fonts In Use – Find out where a font is used on Monday July 27, 2026 @05:56AM (#49067280)
Good article. Too preachy.
Woah, this is something I've wanted for forever! Only, without the "quirky" aspects of its design. I can appreciate the charm, but it does obstruct utility, and this sort of tool -- a super-general digital whiteboard -- would be oh so useful. I never knew of its predecessor, "HyperCard," either, which looks to be essentially what I wish for, only modernized.
Yup! Crude AI image right up top, one of those summary tables that AIs love to churn out, etc.

Thanks for an actual source.

Either it's intentional and malicious, or it's unintentional and extremely inconsiderate. Either way, death penalty.
>Stimulants have a habit of being enjoyable at first ... and then the effects wane over the years

The standard approach to addressing this is thru the use of "drug holidays," regular short periods during which one doesn't take their medication with the intention of abating the growth of tolerance. I much prefer going this route since stimulants have proven to be such a solid solution. The other standard approach is, of course, upping dosage, which could be seen as only delaying the problem.

I don't disagree with anything you wrote, though. The internet is indeed a terrible place to get any advice on these topics.

Re:Egg consumption inversely correlated with Alzheimer's on Saturday July 04, 2026 @11:43PM (#48791083)
Given that a great number of Westerns are overweight, it's probably appropriate for them to act as though "fat is evil" due to calorie density. Plus: saturated fat should be avoided; this is another thing Westerners are likely to be getting too much of.
You say that, but some people really do give you a hard time if you try to assert that there is one, definite, objective reality.
What is.
There is only a single source of truth and that is objective reality. Maybe you agree with that, but your wording is messy. It's true that different perspectives can yield their own particular bits of truth, if that's what you're saying.

Sweet, thank you! Don't know why they didn't post this, it's the bit I'm most interested in.
Re:What was nice about the UI of Windows 2000 on Thursday June 18, 2026 @06:20PM (#48592439)
I can recall a time when it felt rewarding to explore and poke around in software, clicking through the menus and the icons, seeing what conveniences and neat features might be hiding in there...

Now, that's often not my experience. You can find some of the worst examples in anything made by Microsoft; Teams and Outlook are particularly bad, as you said. I don't poke around out of curiosity, I fumble around out of frustration with their slow, ugly, bloated, unreadable software. Apple sucks too, except, instead of being unbearably slow, they're honing in on making their UIs less readable and less intuitive than anything that came before.

Yes, but Jedberg makes it sound as though -- given that only a small fraction of the world's population lives in the USA -- the country has little chance of succeeding if it is to go without immigrants. I disagree, and an extreme example I could offer as a counterpoint is Japan: tiny population (relatively), yet outsized performance.
Re:DHS Quits Granting Green Cards–Almost on Saturday May 23, 2026 @04:14PM (#48251027)
You put words in my mouth. I don't claim that the smartest are clustered in the USA.
