Re:All the Science Hitching a Ride on Artemis-1 on Wednesday November 16, 2022 @06:16PM (#33632390)
I believe they were generally from colleges and schools and received development assistance from NASA. Each cubesat is a certain size, in the case of Artemis 1, they are "6U" or 6-units large. This seems to be a standard designation. The adapter ring that launches the cubesats is also interesting. Little chutes.
Re:50% – 75% of cases of Covid-19 are asymptomatic on Wednesday March 18, 2020 @10:22AM (#22616947)
In my experience, government/businesses/schools have been slow to close without confirmed test results. If you don't get the tests, no one is going to pull the trigger on quarantining. That is frustrating to me.
Re:Ask HN: What is your learning plan for 2020? on Monday March 09, 2020 @02:38PM (#22528279)
I am pursuing certifications in Configuration Management. Completing 8 days of training with CMPIC and taking a certification exam through NDIA.

I build CM tools, so maybe I'll sound a bit more confident. So far, the training courses have reinforced my intuitions about how CM is performed in the enterprise. I'm feeling more able to tackle our engineering inefficiencies.

Organic foods are an absence of specific herbicides, pesticides and narcotics; not all of them categorically.
molly-coddled

Molly cuddling does sound cuter, though.

Re:In hospital for 34 years on Tuesday November 28, 2017 @04:08PM (#15801661)
I used to have horrible panic attacks, waking up out of a seemingly sound sleep. Turns out I have central sleep apnea. Took ~28 years to figure that out. Completely gone with SA treatment.
Re:Ask HN: What office chair do you use? on Monday November 20, 2017 @02:42PM (#15742578)
WD-40 isn't actually a true lubricant. WD stands for "water displacing" and its main use is as a solvent or rust dissolver.

Use a silicone lubricant.

Why would I want to remove a placebo if it works?

The placebo is false, it is not a truth.

Your reasoning seems to me to be constructs of your own making. My search is for truth in its simplest form, detached from human perceptions.

I do think that your thoughts are good, though perhaps not true.

Hang on, while your statement seems logical, it doesn't necessarily hold true. Certainly does not work when training dogs.

Until that instant when the sun 'pops' back out. Your widened pupils don't respond fast enough.

Re:The strange effects of thinking healthy food is costlier on Monday December 19, 2016 @03:50PM (#13214856)
I've usually heard that dry food is marginally better for cats, since it's better for their teeth. Otherwise, nutritional content is the same.
Check images, receipts, transactions, statements (particularly PDF), deposit slips, mortgage documents... all kept for 7-20+ years.

Banks?
Well, in reality, probably not. I was pointing out that homeopathy was originally 'fighting fire with fire'. Or at least, that is what the word means.

This comment is beautiful.

Did anything come of this?
I've been thinking about this lately. It would be difficult, but I think legislation against this scenario should be an immediate concern.

It's like Snapchat; the whole premise of security disappears when the user realizes they can take a screenshot.

A company can go bankrupt and sell off all user data, in raw form or otherwise, regardless of the agreement under which they collected it.

Huh.

Re:Bob Lutz thinks Tesla is doomed on Wednesday October 28, 2015 @05:15PM (#10467477)
Everything about the Tesla vehicles is based on them not being a hybrid. The entire design would have to be scrapped. Ha ha ha.
Ha, this would be pretty great. I was disappointed to see that it hasn't yet launched.
Amtrak runs to Northampton. If you flew to Boston - with or without a connection from New York, Atlanta or another regional airline hub - you could take the Amtrak train to get to the school. From the train station, there are probably taxi cabs, or you could arrange with a local to pick you up.
Re:Ask HN: Do you help beggars? on Tuesday April 28, 2015 @01:36PM (#9453973)
No. I don't consider small amounts of money to be the solution to an individual's homelessness problem.

I feel strongly that giving money to someone who is deliberately spending their day begging is actually harmful to that person -- since any success prolongs their time begging. I guess I am assuming that the end goal is to not be begging.

A friend of mine once explained that his philosophy is that "it's not up to him to choose what they do with the money." So, he is very open to giving change to people who are begging.

I contemplated this for several months, and decided that it doesn't change my feelings. It took a lot of thought.

Do/Would I help beggars? Yes, but not by giving them my pocket change.

Re:Clicktofriend: click a button, make a friend in real life on Wednesday April 01, 2015 @10:15AM (#9303693)
Webpage copy is great... worth a chuckle.

I've mulled over some sort of 'tinder for friends' and not had any new ideas. This seems straightforward enough to work.
