You can still use cron if you want...
My old Macbook is 9 years old. It has no issues what so ever with browsing the web.

The customer must be running some truly ancient version of Mac OS for this story to be true.

S3 is Simple Storage Service RDS is Relational Data Service EC2 is Elastic Compute Cloud

All of these make sense.

If you're gonna complain about names, at least pick the really sucky ones, like Athena, Snowball, etc.

Welcome to system operations (sysop). We've been doing this before devops was even a word.

"The person who fiddles with our stuff on AWS"

What do you think the high-end stuff from other vendors is?
No, it's not. Only 1642 people have Olin as their lastname.
Re:Spanner vs. Calvin: distributed consistency at scale on Thursday April 06, 2017 @03:23PM (#14053742)
No pricing information for the self-hosted version. Gonna pass on this. Why even bother reading shitloads of text for something I can't try?
Re:Torus development has been stopped at CoreOS on Monday February 20, 2017 @03:44AM (#13685561)
Ah.... Hahah... Hahhahahahhahahahahahahahah.

No.

During the 1 year I ran CoreOS in production, updates were turned off, because they caused all sorts of issues.

They only reliable way of doing updates in CoreOS is to replace the machine and reconfiguring it. But then you need to automate joining etcd, which itself is a major pain in the ass.

So, RAID multiple EBS volumes and you have a larger disk.

Re:Why we lost Uber as a user on Monday August 01, 2016 @10:38AM (#12202685)
CQRS doesn't imply event sourcing. CQRS works fine with the standard RDBMS workflow.

Re:GCE vs. AWS: Why You Should Never Use Amazon on Wednesday July 06, 2016 @04:59AM (#12041973)
You do know that AWS AZs are different per customer? Your us-east-1a isn't the same as my us-east-1a.
Re:KeyBox: Web-Based SSH Access and Key Management on Wednesday July 06, 2016 @04:49AM (#12041942)
Who would use this and why would they use it? On all the servers I have access to, I manage one key, my own key. Why would I need a "SSH Access and Key Management" system for a single key?
Re:Using Nginx to load balance microservices on Friday March 11, 2016 @04:32PM (#11269699)
In the cases I use this setup, HAProxy won't fit, since I route based on URL values. I do have HAProxy in front of my nginx machines though.
Re:Using Nginx to load balance microservices on Friday March 11, 2016 @03:51AM (#11265491)
I haven't seen this behaviour, got any proof of your claims?
