What function does a half baked google docs clone serve here?
Re:Show HN: Ember Table by Addepar on Thursday December 20, 2012 @04:02PM (#4949961)
This is really cool; it'll be interesting to see it's application to feed style content as opposed to tables (in the discussion on the html5 version of facebook mobile rendering the feed was a major bottleneck)
The google closure library has sha1 and hmac support as well - well worth checking out

Re:Low-cost Solution to Clearing Afghan Landmines on Tuesday November 20, 2012 @02:57AM (#4808151)
As noted in the reddit thread on this:

This isn't to be used alone for clearing minefields - as it's not going to get 100% coverage. It's still a useful tool for surveying minefields or perhaps doing a cheap first-pass before sending in pricey equipment

Re:Steam Linux Beta starts today, NVIDIA claims on Tuesday November 06, 2012 @11:23AM (#4749075)
I feel like an idiot for only just realizing; this is valves solution to the potential windows 8 lockout isn't it
I agree, it's unbelievable. End users don't care about incorrect markup, they care about their browser hanging.
Re:Backbone.js views done right on Thursday June 14, 2012 @05:04PM (#4113508)
Can't remember where I heard it, so decided to check.

Found this S.O thread http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10296791/backbone-js-perf... (different code, same concept) and decided to benchmark: Unqueued DOM insertion: http://jsfiddle.net/arkxp/9/ Queued DOM insertion: http://jsfiddle.net/arkxp/8/

The latter is consistently faster, and while the difference isn't a lot with this example, given a more complex insertion it'll mount up.

This is pretty much what we use, here it is with map and builds the element prior to dom insertion (better performance): https://gist.github.com/2932520
Re:The Automated Fake Album Project on Sunday April 08, 2012 @06:02PM (#3815047)
There's bias introduced based on the visual appearance, some of the fonts used are terrible - and (as mentioned) the contrast.
I'm praying that the retina display really does happen, not because I plan on buying an ipad - but because it will finally get laptop manufacturers to stop producing crappy 720p displays.
Re:New MVC client side JavaScript framework - Serenade.js on Monday January 30, 2012 @10:31AM (#3529121)
Doesn't seem particularly game-changing.

I do like the haml style templating though, anything like this exist standalone with coffeescipt not js syntax?

We currently use eco (https://github.com/sstephenson/eco), but that's standard html.

Nice feature, would be awesome to see other JVM languages too
