Sharecropping is bad for sharecroppers, what a surprise.

I wished it was just all into logos and no actual game. That's the real AAA experience.
Re:AI needs $6T in annual revenue to justify data centre boom on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @04:47PM (#49900250)
It's clearly a bubble. I'm not sure why more people don't describe it that way. It's a gold rush. People are hoping that everyone else drops out before they do. Nobody thinks all the participants can win. At best one of them can take a small fraction of $6T.
Re:California is chasing wealth that has feet on Thursday September 24, 2026 @06:28PM (#49837614)
But let's be clear: Prop 13 is bad and is holding down property taxes on both commercial and residential land.
Re:B5-BJ2 – Ice Cream Barges – Concrete Ship Constructors on Thursday September 24, 2026 @02:10PM (#49834617)
I'm curious how they got the raw material to them. You can't make 5 tons of ice cream a day out of thin air. Were they shipped premixed sugar & milk or did they get straight raw ingredients and mix them onsite? I feel like the refrigeration capabilities are a pretty small part of the supply chain required to actually produce ice cream. Did they get a floating milk tanker to stop by every few days? Were they loaded on shore and just made do with what they had until the next port call?

Re:iPhone Duo on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @07:01PM (#49635813)
The inside screen, when divided in two vertically, along the fold line, is exactly the same dimensions as the outer screen. Pretty much by definition. Any folding phone, of any aspect ratio, can run two apps on the interior display side by side.

The issue of the internal screen being the same aspect ratio as the external when rotated is completely separate.

Re:iPhone Duo on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @05:15PM (#49634448)
Yes, I do understand the issue with the aspect ratio, which is indeed good design, but parent comment's example is that "you can run two apps side by side" is the tautology. Well, at least since the invention of double-entry bookkeeping and getting rid of Archimedian phone design.
Re:iPhone Duo on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @04:58PM (#49634198)
this isn't great design, it's tautology. of course the phone open is twice the size of it closed. it would be hard to make it otherwise.
Re:iPhone Duo on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @03:06PM (#49632341)
in the keynote they explicitly said it was a polymer. Apple materials technology is really good, but it's not "folding glass" good.

Yes, by all means, figure out how to reshore American production of potash, aluminum and heavy crude near northern refineries.
oh he understood what plate tectonics was proposing very well, he just completely rejected it in favour of many distributed prehistoric oceans and a lot (a LOT) of erosion. It was weirdly congruent to phantom time theory.
Back in the early 2000's, well before most social media sites existed, I had a coworker who shared with me a number of questionable theories, one of which was basically this. He also believed very passionately that plate tectonics was wrong. Unfortunately social media didn't invent brain worms.

Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life" was used in a cruise ship ad in 2003. Not the 90's, but not exactly recent.
Re:Google launches Pixel 11 Pro Fold on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @01:09PM (#49275584)
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold had a lot of warranty replacements due to a failing internal cable. The 10 seems to have resolved the issue, but time will tell.

Other than that, the Pixel Fold has been a great phone. It's like having a tiny tablet with me everywhere I go.

Interesting that in Canada Rideau Hall counts, but Casa Loma does not.

The title of the page is "Map of the world's great castles & fortresses". So those are latter.
Re:India's surprise baby bust is a warning to the world on Saturday June 06, 2026 @11:47AM (#48426117)
Canada has always accepted immigrants. Rapidly increasing the number of foreign students to goose the slumping post-secondary education sector did not work out great. Even with the reductions, there are always immigrants coming into Canada.
Re:India's surprise baby bust is a warning to the world on Friday June 05, 2026 @08:26PM (#48420104)
No one cares. Japanese culture today is nothing like it was 200 years ago.

In English they can, in fact, be used, at times, interchangeably!

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/accept

Accept: to give admittance

Why is every argument against any level of immigration that the people of Japan are unchangeably xenophobic? Japan is bringing in more immigrants than ever: https://soranews24.com/2025/08/13/foreign-population-in-japa...

Re:India's surprise baby bust is a warning to the world on Friday June 05, 2026 @04:39PM (#48417925)
Japan is already accepting immigrants! It's right there in the article I linked! It's just a question of raising the quota slightly.

It's hardly going to solve every problem, it will keep restaurants from closing.

Re:India's surprise baby bust is a warning to the world on Friday June 05, 2026 @04:19PM (#48417635)
Japan is not without problems related to a shrinking population i.e. https://eastasiaforum.org/2026/05/21/japans-immigration-poli...

but it's a problem easily solved by just letting in more immigrants.

Japan, a country famous for no one knowing what its culture is.
Delta P is one atmosphere or less, like 15 PSI. Lots of stuff can handle 15 PSI.

Now, will it immediately off-gas and embrittle on exposure to vacuum? Different question.

Do you think the US is going to have Nuremberg trials? Do you think there will be a deep national reckoning about what happened?

Sad that we'll probably never be able to run this on M1/M-series iPads.

Regardless, Chromebooks are as adopted as anything is likely to get in the current Windows-Mac duopoly.

Chromebooks had a higher market share than Macs in 2021.
