somehow that explain some other issues on yt, like not only demonetizing the corona virus tagged videos but also other videos on the channel involved

you're not alone
> the general conversation here on HN has been much more doom and gloom than some other places

many people have pointed out that covid-19 threads gets burried alot quicker here on HN

Re:Beware of criminals pretending to be WHO on Friday February 28, 2020 @10:40PM (#22448630)
chuckle at the ironic title, better prep yourself if your country's CDC still listen to WHO for advice
the first example feels deliberately complicated, where gravity constant can be shortened to G_ = 6.67x10^-11, (G_ * M1 * M2 / Rad^2)
Re:Is It a Pandemic Yet? on Monday February 24, 2020 @10:46AM (#22404996)
you need to be exposed to second hand smoke for long periods of time before it can kill you, the covid-19 exposure take considerably less time in comparison, then again are they really comparable at this point?
Re:Is It a Pandemic Yet? on Monday February 24, 2020 @10:14AM (#22404655)
smoking is not contagious, a smoker can't infect or kill you directly with cigarettes
Re:Is It a Pandemic Yet? on Monday February 24, 2020 @10:05AM (#22404559)
Are you comparing covid-19 cases against the sum of ALL cases of *regular flu(H_N_ influenza( A B C D) virus)?

For perspective, how many country will actually restrict travel or even undergone state wide lock down for an outbreak of regular flu??

Re:Coronavirus Death Toll Rises to 805, Passing SARS on Saturday February 08, 2020 @11:27PM (#22280401)
somewhere between 2.2~(3 | 4 ?), one thing though, unlike SARS, WARS(nCoV) is already contagious during incubation period(14 days) and even before any symptoms cough/fever shows up, this SUPER complicates any measure to quarantine it
Re:Coronavirus Death Toll Rises to 805, Passing SARS on Saturday February 08, 2020 @11:16PM (#22280372)
short answer is we have to wait for "28 days later", the long answer is... complicated, please take this with a grain of salt

the first tide of WARS(nCoV) "Contagion" have either become ill(hospitalized and quarantined) or dead, so now we're waiting to see if the number of cases outside of China still climbs as a local transmission epidemic

If this tide continues, international country like eg Singapore can super-spread this into global pandemic like H1N1 unless we close off borders and ban all flights/shippings economics/travels...

How viable is such containment actually remains to be seen, lets pray for the best

I'm not sure anybody wanted to be "that guy" who defy "that rule" and gets incarcerated or branded as "Liar" like those 8 other whistle blower doctors... history can always be nicely rewritten since ancient times in China
Re:Richard P. Feynman on the Distinction Between Past and Future on Wednesday February 05, 2020 @11:50AM (#22248562)
though lower in probability to recall/remember future event but I "believe" when the reversal happen, people call them "dejavu"
I don't know which theory is bat shit crazy, a virus with suspicious resemblance to SARS, HIV or just EATING bat shit is crazy

this outbreak proves humans are doomed to repeat the same mistake

You always take things from CCP with a grain of salt, currently it seems like they already f*ked up and cannot cover up this outbreak anymore
Re:Philosophy of Ghost in the Shell (2012) on Wednesday January 08, 2020 @10:08AM (#21992058)
looking at the video today on how its portrayal of Hong Kong's struggle with it's identity and existence is somewhat surreal because the Hong Kong protesters in gasmask gives me an eerie cyberpunk vibes
Re:A Robot That Explains Its Actions on Friday December 27, 2019 @12:39PM (#21892763)
what if the truth we believe is very well "inception-able"? Can we distinguish ideas planted by others(religion, government, pop cultures, movies etc)from our own, let alone "truth" from those AI who "study/spy" on our thoughts to better "serve/enslave" us?

出身985,工作996,劝退35,离职251,维权404 is a slogan to the working culture in China

the context for the numbers are 985(graduate from top universities), 996(working 12 hours each for 6 days), 35(age discrimination in firing), 251(days unlawfully locked behind bars), 404(all reports and complaints censored from the web)

Re:ACLU to police using robots: Tell us more on Monday December 02, 2019 @10:52AM (#21683452)
they already have unmanned drones with lethal weapon in war

the deployment of machines in urban city is only a matter of time, with the rising stake and the scare of massive social movement, "they" will justify the usage to suppress "crime" of dissident

whether the robots are manned or autonomous or self-aware, one thing is inevitable are the harms/deaths caused by "them" eventually

Re:The Simulation Argument and the Simulation Barrier on Sunday November 24, 2019 @11:56PM (#21625575)
I heard from someone about the relativity of spacetime, time is slowest near the center of a huge gravity source like blackhole so out here earth time is actually relatively fast and are speeding up due to expansion, as the further our galaxy/universe is flying apart the less mass and less gravity can slow them down

So our relative spacetime scale of a billion years here, might just be a few hours inside some of those crazy dense SUPER MASSIVE blackholes

And with that in mind and some loose sense our whole simulation might just took 1 second of the creator's relative time because...time is relative , just a loose assumption

Re:The Simulation Argument and the Simulation Barrier on Sunday November 24, 2019 @11:28PM (#21625460)
While I fancy simulated reality, Bostrom's hypothesis placed constraints and assumptions that "human" must exist in the least and sim's purpose are about their "ancestors" and "we" are the reason that ever more simulations will continue to co-exist

But why must it be post-human from future? why not a "pre-human-ancestor" from "relatively ages ago" that may have created a simulation to peek into simulated future?(so they can learn and won't make the same mistakes we did)

You may notice a contradiction in my example is IF the creator are instead from the past? How can they even be a human at all if they had to exist before human does?

The thing is chicken and egg "only" if we assume our creator themselves must be human, on the other hand

Today, we are designing/training artificial intelligence life form barely resembling us in simulations and most of their purposes are generally "forecast/solution/learning/gaming"

With the penultimate goal to create ASI to solve problems in nature, perhaps the reality is our universe may just be one of the branches as a result of such humble "exploration"

OBTW are you aware "I AM AI" a slogan favored by Nvidia is a cute palindrome itself that can also be rearranged to "AI AM I", "AM I AI", "AI I AM", "I A I AM" :D

damn human your scary
Can I interpret it like this?

human 'is' set; human set 'has' man | woman; man 'is' human but not human 'is' man

virus 'is' set; virus set 'has' life; life 'is' virus but not virus 'is' life

iirc in a recent talk with Joe Rogan, John mentioned something about robots doing judo...

No direct help...besides banning Huawei user, removal of fake news bots and pro-china propaganda on its platform
