Github enterprise works great.
The battery on Glass works for about 1.4 hours, probably shorter if you were continuously recording.
Re:Salt: Like Puppet, Except It Doesn’t Suck on Monday June 24, 2013 @11:55AM (#5933709)
Salt is missing templates, the ability to use higher level programming language and all the environment/roles that I find the most powerful part of Chef.

Are 'Coding Tests' Effective in Developer Recruitment?

Just had a back and forth with Salesforce about a developer position and it ended after I politely said I do not take 'code tests'. I believe that these mandatory coding tests are ineffective in doing anything but changing the company/hire dynamics in a bad way. Am I wrong? What do people think and what are some other experiences developers have had?

Re:Show HN: Our alternative to recruiter spam on Tuesday January 08, 2013 @11:44AM (#5026996)
I stopped at entering my name, company and position. Why can't I try this out anonymously? The stakes are too high for most people to willy nilly add their personal info to a conduit for recruiters.

Re:A Return to Linux on the Workstation on Thursday September 20, 2012 @11:41AM (#4549092)
Even a Joyent tech admits Ubuntu is a more pleasant experience. Thought this was interesting, but all his points are not isolated to the desktop experience. Pretty much all the reasons he switched to linux affect the building and maintenance of servers too. I think it just boils down to community support.

I've always felt that Sugoi weather clothes are some of the best out there. Windproof up to 35mph but still semi breathable.

Never wear headphones while biking in a city. Unless you want to die.
Re:The new Digg on Wednesday August 01, 2012 @11:17AM (#4323337)
The new digg == 504 Gateway timeout. Great job guys.
TL;DR I'm losing all my programmers because I'm not paying them enough.

Re:Software engineers hard to find on Wednesday January 12, 2011 @02:28AM (#2095341)
At most companies the hiring process is severely broken. They are being too careful and are so scared to train the right person.

Is there a way to watch an offline movie with the media player?
The resume/interview hiring process is severely broken in US. It is not the schools, it's the companies hiring, they are looking for some perfect holy grail but really need to just start hiring people and pick through the chaff. These startups deserve what they get making it impossible to even find their 'perfect employee'.

Re:Man jailed over computer password refusal on Tuesday October 05, 2010 @02:47PM (#1760896)
"It sends a robust message out to those intent on trying to mask their online criminal activities that they will be taken before the courts with the ultimate sanction, as in this case, being a custodial sentence."

seems like a good reason to have "innocent until proven guilty". drive could contain anything, or nothing.

Re:Move to SF and hate it? on Monday September 13, 2010 @01:50PM (#1687459)
I think SF like any city is what you make of it. It sounds like you never made that many friends who were native/lifers in SF and you missed out on anything deeper than what you could read in a tourist book.

Cities take time to get to know, and the most important thing is to get to know other people who know the city better than you.

If you had tried biking more in SF, you also would have found more things to do and less to complain about.

Almost all your hate points are worse in NYC IMO.

One last thing, San Francisco is NOT the Pennisula (San Mateo, Palo Alto, etc) and both places are extremely different. Most of the pennisula going down to San Jose is pretty much like Atlanta, Most of Texas or San Diego.

Re:Ask HN: Heroku or Not? on Sunday September 05, 2010 @04:32PM (#1665112)
I recommend heroku for starting out and and getting your apps some traction or whatever, then if/when you make more money hire a sys admin and migrate to something else if you want.

I really love heroku though, especially after setting up my own servers on media temple for rails apps (which sucks using passenger).

Re:Choosing New York over San Francisco on Wednesday August 04, 2010 @01:11PM (#1575046)
Palo Alto is not in San Francisco. Look at a map. Comparing New York City to Palo Alto is like comparing San Francisco to Burlingame.
