Re:Introduction to Indian English on Wednesday July 09, 2025 @04:16AM (#44507462)
We have a knack of placing only wherever we like, even at the beginning of a sentence.

Only we understand what the sentence means :)

"Only I'll do it tomorrow". "He only wanted milk."

Another common Indian word is prepone, the opposite of postpone.

I have never come across the "where" example.

The article misses out on many common usages, and cites some rather unremarkable ones.

Coincidentally, Martin and his father, Kingsley Amis both died at 73.
Re:Ask HN: What's the best TTS engine you've heard? on Thursday March 23, 2023 @12:58AM (#35270703)
Acapela Group's Peter voice is the best British voice I've come across.

Earlier you could just buy the voice pack for a reasonable amount, now they have complicated the purchase quite a bit.

Re:Burgr – Books in Your Terminal on Friday February 24, 2023 @08:22AM (#34924203)
Very neat project, would love to install it and give it a try.

I was reading your post on software that will run 20 years from now. What about perl?

My perl scripts, and maybe awk, too, are the only ones running after 25 years!

"Sign up" took me to payments. It should mention how much is being charged up front.

I hope to use this in the near future, just started on rails.

Pay-walled.
Excellent introduction to vim. The preface is a bit too long, IMO. But great job.
Re:Quordle: Four Wordles in One on Sunday February 20, 2022 @11:35PM (#30412018)
I am loving this.

One thing, the position of the backspace and enter keys is the opposite of wordle and that's confusing, esp if you play both.

Re:Show HN: Nine Letter Word – Daily Puzzle on Friday February 11, 2022 @07:03AM (#30300406)
Are there archives of this game so i can play earlier days?

Some have only had one dose . Vaccination does not always prevent infection, but it does reduce severity of disease we are told.

> ban against a lot of resistance from the people (shrug).

Actually, it is not the people but the farmers resisting crop burning.

OTOH, the people have resisted odd-even cars and firecrackers, and the central government ministers flouted these openly.

Re:Broot – A new way to see and navigate directory trees on Saturday January 11, 2020 @12:56AM (#22018425)
I get: Bad configuration: not a valid key: enter

When I put enter as a key in place of F2.

Re:Broot – A new way to see and navigate directory trees on Thursday January 09, 2020 @10:19AM (#22001863)
On Mac OS, Enter invokes Xcode. How to get it to use vim for text files.
Re:Broot – A new way to see and navigate directory trees on Thursday January 09, 2020 @10:01AM (#22001716)
On Mac OS, is there a way so that Enter opens a text file using vim and not xcode.
Supreme court is in BJP hands.
Why not wash them?
