Funny - I was just reading about the creator of Ethernet this morning (Robert Metcalfe):

In 1995, Metcalfe argued that the Internet would suffer a "catastrophic collapse" in the following year; he promised to eat his words if it did not. During his keynote speech at the sixth International World Wide Web Conference in 1997, he took a printed copy of his column that predicted the collapse, put it in a blender with some liquid and then consumed the pulpy mass.[26][27] He had suggested having his words printed on a very large cake, but the audience would not accept this form of "eating his words."[28]

Damn! All those Hallmark movies just became documentaries!

I believe they've also been in the US for 20 years. However, they aren't centralized like Flock. Flock cameras also all look the same so it's more present and in people's faces. The opposition to these is really heating up right now.
Is there any type of internal support where you're allowed to chat about it?
Re:Gateway 2000's hilariously bad ads in the 90s (Part II) on Saturday August 08, 2026 @11:28AM (#49222753)
I think it was around the late 90s - but my hometown actually had a Gateway retail store where you could tinker with a lot of their products.
I've mentioned this on HN before. But it's pretty disgusting that the DC Lottery can advertise here on local TV.
I think this was true in the 90s and 2000s. When not everyone was a script kiddie. But why hire someone that literally didn't write their own exploit? Sounds like the most advanced thing they did was just social engineering and dumping a DB.

I remember people with various "tunes" at the racetrack would run this stuff. It definitely smelled like candy!

This is great. I remember playing this for the first time at a Wizards of the Coast in the mall. They had 8 or so PCs on a LAN in the back of the store. My first true LAN party I guess.
Interesting. I work in higher ed and we have thousands of GPUs under my team. Rarely ever seen a failure. Mostly when we put consumer grade GPUs in servers (Nvidia doesn't like this). True server-grade GPUs never have any problems.
And what looks like a keychron mechanical keyboard! (Loud AF)

One random story I have...I remember there was a legit riot on the Prexus EQ forums I was on because SOE decided to drop Windows 95 support for Everquest. I believe it was because Win95 wouldn't support DirectX 6 or something. I was good to go though...I had Win 98 and a Geforce MX 240 I purchased at Best Buy.
Something like OWS - but outside the Whitehouse?
