Exponential back-off is one of my favorite simple algorithms. Just remember to set a sane upper limit, you don't need them to wait hours between tries.

I will sometimes use a "pseudo exponential" like 1,3,5,10,25,50,100 and hold there. Of course, if you're trying to avoid collisions on a shared resource, the classic algorithm is pretty good.

Documentation priority is inverse of volatility:

1) Why (requirements, decision points)

2) What (use cases, interactions, external APIs)

3) How (internal APIs)

4) Who (SMEs, owners, servers)

And don't waste people's time; don't document things that are obvious.

The only thing I miss from the 95-XP days is Space Cadet Pinball. Oh well, new iPad next week and Pinball HD will totally make up for it
Re:Ask HN: What will reduce ADHD on Saturday March 03, 2012 @12:27AM (#3659471)
Some current research suggests that ADHD (including the non-hyperactive form) has a lot to do with working memory capacity. Variations on short-term memory games like Simon appear to improve symptoms when used in a regulated way.

There is a Dr administered set called Cogmed that has some good data backing it up. There are also products by Posit Science and Lumocity.
